    • While you haven't mentioned Olympus/OMS, one thing that flabbergasted me (when I first got the camera) was that the button with the little red dot on it was set to something other than "record movie" as a factory default. It is now set to "record movie." This is not just an OM-1 setting but dates back to several previous models, I believe.

Simon is an excellent communicator concise and clear in what he says and how he says it. Watching and listening to Simon is easy and something to look forward to. • I would add that JPEGs are better if you need to print quickly. There are wedding on which you want to sell photos, and there will be a lot of photos. Culling and editing them in RAW would be much slower then just working JPEG. That being said, my go to option is shoot JPEG on one card and RAW on the other. Both have their strenghts, but a lot of YT and IG photographers forget to tell that there is a weakness to RAW, and that is slow workflow

    @SuperHackingtime@SuperHackingtime Жыл бұрын
    • Why not shoot in both RAW&JPG? That way when you're looking at the pictures afterwards in Photoshop or whatever Photo editing software you use, if a picture needs some editing you can use the RAW file and the ones that don't keep JPG, however the reason I recommend shooting in the setting where it saves the images in both is for that reason plus if your client wants something fixed you still have the RAW file version of that photo

    • RAW file processing software is set up for doing fast batch processing. You process one file and synchronise all the others. You can also set up processing recipes. You’re also making your own decisions, not relying on a processing algorithm developed in a Japanese laboratory. Outputting to JPEG is also speedy. You can do hundreds of files in a few clicks.

  • A minor addendum to setting #8 (diopter adjustment) - When focusing the diopter, use the viewfinder markings (reticle, guides, etc.) as a reference to verify focus. Using the image may be inaccurate if the lens isn't focused exactly right. Once the guidelines are correct and the lens is in focus, both will be visually sharp. Great video.

    @lphilpot01@lphilpot01 Жыл бұрын
  • I have a great story RE diopter adjustment. I owned a nature tour charter boat company for many years and took out many people primarily interested in nature and wildlife photography. One day a client complained to me that her expensive Canon 5D MkII was a disappointment to her because the images always looked out of focus. I immediately suspect the diopter focus was the problem and asked her to hand me the camera. Sure enough when I looked through the viewfinder everything was blurred. a check of the diopter setting revealed it was way out of adjustment so I set it to my vision and handed it back to the woman. Wow! she exclaimed! You fixed it! I explained to her what the adjustment was for and added that it was important to set it for your particular vision and on we went with our 3 hr boat trip. I did notice that she kept fooling with the diopter setting throughout the trip but just figured that, like me, she was a perfectionist and was obsessed with getting it set perfectly. Only a few days later did it finally occur to me that the poor woman apparently thought that the diopter needed to be reset for every photo! The lesson in all this is "Read the camera manual from cover to cover, or stick to simple auto cameras that don't require much in the way of settings!

  • Congratulations on 100,000+ subscribers, that's good work and well deserved! One thing, I have on my list is updating/ changing the name of the camera owner/photographer, before I start using a new camera. It's a setting many cameras have, and the information will be part the meta data of each photo shot with the camera, so it's always a good idea to make sure that information is accurate. Especially, if the new camera is a second hand camera, I prefer to have my name in the meta data of my photos rather than the name of a previous owner.

  • I like you. Your approach to the subject of photography is very clear and easy to digest. I have been taking photos for a long time before the digital age. What I like about Bridge and DSLR's cameras is that you save money, lots of money. Your computer becomes your darkroom. Photos that are bad can be learned from then deleted. I still remember the cost of having your shots developed, then returned to you to see all the mistakes you'd made in camera settings, wasted photos and money. Not so today. New subscriber!

  • Congratulations, Simon, to the silver plaque! Well deserved. Those settings are pretty much the same that I tend to find quickly and change to my likings. First and foremost: BBF. I'd be lost without it. I might need to add a custom set up with it off though, since I don't get the expected result when attaching the Timer Remote Controller - more testing needed, and maybe even more reading of manuals. Current body is the first I have with GPS, so I have tried having that turned on a few times, but I find that it sucks the juice out of the batteries more than anything. On the same theme I have set the camera's Image Review to Off.

I use this technique with my Olympus, Lumix and Fuji. If I have more time I send the raw files to the smartphone where I use Lr mobile. JPG directly in camera is not the best choice for storage and final results.

  • I just got a new camera, the seller said that the flash was broken but I changed some setting in the menu and now it works! It's a Nikon D3200. Much better than my old D3000.

  • I was your first subscriber and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :) Honestly I think I have been with you from the beginning and so glad I am. I have worked very hard to practice what you preach and just this weekend I was looking at my old "good" photos from a year ago and was shocked on how far I have come. I am not bragging at all, quite the opposite. I could not have come this far without your videos. I am truly grateful.

  • In a site filled more and more with experts, it's refreshing to find one that is so easy to follow. A little speedy sometimes when trying to listen to new things perhaps, but that's why you can watch more than once right? :)

  • Congrats Simon I too have been here since the beginning, and thank you for I have improved significantly. I recently upgraded from film to digital within the Pentax brand and am starting to think I'm lacking in capabilities via my equipment? (shutter speed specifically) I love wildlife shooting mainly but have some exceptional shots via still photography. I'll continue to tune in, for It may just be my inexperience!

  • This is why I love my D7000. It''s old but gold. I am looking to upgrade but i cant help feel Im going to miss it when I do because it has so many function buttons that are right to hand when I need and I still get some great quality photos considering its expeed 2 and only 16mega pixels. Im looking at the Nikon range and their DSLR range is a bit lacking at the moment. They still have cameras in production from 2016 so Im going to wait a little bit. Thanks for the little tips though. Its always good to go back to basics every now and then.
