Hey Chaps! Big question... which phone won?? (Here's a link to my originial full-res photos: bit.ly/3oMChFN) PLEASE don’t respond to scam comment replies saying you’ve won a competition 😡 I'll also keep you updated if a S22 update arrives and improves the camera (and for those asking, yes I’m using the Exynos model) 👍
Samsung
S22 ultra for sure
S22 definitely
I'd pick the iPhone for video if it's what you'll mostly do, and you get the benefit of a longer battery life. The S22U does have great video though, and beats the iPhone in almost everything else, but even then, by barely (other than zoom).
Glad you picked Samsung
The mic in the S22 Ultra is incredible. So clean sounding compared to the Iphone which you can hear a lot of wind and background noise from. I think the mic quality of the new samsung phone is what impresses me most in this video.
Yeah it was like on next generation different than iPhone's !!
Yeah I was really impressed by s22 mic, significantly less wind noise
@@shreyashpatil3921 It's not, s21 compares with iPhone 12 and s22 compates with iPhone 13. Same year doesn't mean same generation.
@@nikola9629 I think he means the mic is a generational leap
I thought the opposite. The Samsung just sounds small.
The camera on the iPhone 13 looks better in the video but the photos on the S22 look so much cleaner and more detailed. As an apple fanboy I have to admit that Samsung is better this time. Great comparison as always!
I think iphone has done something to look brighter but galaxy is more realistic
🙌
I agree, video is better on the iPhone.
I wish the Samsung can catch up with the iPhone with video, that 13 pro max video is clean AF, maybe the galaxy s23 will catch up in the video department. I'm using the pixel 6 at the moment and the camera is pretty good for a 600 dollar phone but the bugs and weak modem in this phone ensure that I will probably not get another pixel phone.
On the selfie vídeo i think s22 si better also
to be fair, the S22 ultra's mic kinda crushed the one on the iPhone. The light handling of the ultra is also impressive!
Loved the camera comparison, great to see a less artificial and more down to earth camera comparison. Follows on the style of Supersaf but with a different take, testing the phones in a wide variety of locations. Keep it up! Last but not least, I'd go with Samsung too (S pen is also a big factor there)
I think Samsung's approach this time is really impressive. Keeping the hardware same and tuning it to the software in a more efficient manner. Flagship companies must come down to this approach rather than changing camera setups every year.
bro the camera sensors are new the are next gen sensors just with same pixel numbers but bigger pixel 😊😊
@@anubhavsoni7620 Yeah, I'm really surprised at how many reviews have stated that it's the same hardware just because the pixel count is the same. The lens and sensor are different on the main camera. That's two thirds of the key hardware components.
@@c0mbat15 The zoom sensors are new as well.
Just try expert raw,it is a life changing moment, trust me
The sensor are so big already They just need optimizing
Wow, the S22 Ultra shines in most scenarios and I'm 100% sure they will very soon push an update for an improved stabilisation as they always do.
No it doesn't. Samsung photos looks too much contrasted. iPhone looks more real which is a huge deal

I think the Samsung S22U is the clear winner this time! I'm digging their photos. They still need to improve on their low light video but everything, zoom, portrait, and normal shot look awesome. Great video btw
Samsung have needed a fix on the low light video for years now - still no improvement. I wouldn’t count on a software update correcting the issue.
@@rdrive1 they upgraded it this year, but still not the best
not this time only even s21 ultra has defeated 13 pro max in camera
If only the S22 shot video like the iPhone then it would be perfect! But either way, both phones are great.
The video is shakey on 22 ultra.
One thing it just noticed now that , S22 Ultra's portrait Video and edge correction is way better than 13 pro's cinematic video mode .
The microphone on Samsung is on another level ⏫
🔥🔥🔥

The S22 Ultra is more detailed. It's crazy because Samsung still has a few patches to do to optimize the hardware. Can't wait to start shooting my youtube videos with this phone.

Hey Tom, great content as always :) Long time iPhone user looking to make jump to S22 Ultra eek! Random q which you've probably heard before lol but where is your purple Nouveau cushion from? It's in the background of the photos you took of your cat. I'm a huge fan of Art Deco/Art Nouveau and would love to get some of these!
Thanks for the video mate, quick question… is there still a camera rattle when you shake the phone? Thanks
S22 Ultra takes this one in the camera comparison. Hopefully software updates fix the video stability.
Why the stability is not right from the beginning and we have to wait for some update. This is not a good advertisement for Samsung. Everyone will remember that stabilization is bad for Samsung and better for the iPhone. Stabilization should have been good now so that Samsung can at least try to compete with the iPhone.
@@McDjMagicAndrey I agree but the Iphone has been the king of video stability / video recording for the past couple of years. Samsung needs to make their own software to optimize the hardware to the fullest imo. I pre ordered my s22 ultra 512g snapdragon version and I can't wait for hands on. Peace!
Can someone give me an update? Did the stabilization improve on S22?
What format were you using for photos? Personally, I would never let the phone decide on the final picture for me, hence shooting in RAW and developing in post. Regarding the exposure issue, that can be corrected by exposing for the hi lights, and pulling the shadows in post. A standard workflow for RAW dlsr captures. Vastly increase the visible dynamic range.
Lovely video as always! Also, the fact that you shot the video after downing a couple of beers was pretty solid 😅 Yes,your eyes gave it away, but, you seemed even more relaxed than usual! Anyway,I own the iPhone 13 Pro Max,but off late, finding it a tad bit boring. I love it,but,it isn’t exciting. Now I’m eyeing the S22 Ultra, thinking it’ll make the perfect combination of both worlds.
The S22 has a slight edge over the iPhone to my eye, and wow the audio on the S22 sounds amazing. Thanks for the comparison, Tom!

This is actually the first phone camera review I've ever watched (and I watch a lot!) at normal speed and didn't skip any bit. Very well made review and kept me engaged. 👌🏾
Great video - thanks! All this is very subjective and like you said, definitely also influenced by the ecosystem. I've always been an iPhone guy and have always used it as it's usually the camera I have on hand. Having said that, I think the gap is narrowing every year and it's almost getting to the point where all these high-end devices should be on par as far as quality is concerned and the real difference would be the few things that might set one apart from the other.
LOL! That intense zooming into the eye ....that's something my friends would do to me. T.T
I am amazed by the selfie camera, night shots, the microphone sound and in general the higher details on the S22. A very good job!
I don't really agree with you. I'm a samsung owner, an S10. In 1:21 look at the metal door and the stabs, the details are dead (prob cause of algorithms. I did really hope that finally Samsung would fix it, but still nothing
The whole pic quaility is pretty good, but not good enough to encourage me to buy one
@@user-nw7gd8zd2u It is a comparative test and the S22 in this test does make better photos.
@@user-nw7gd8zd2u As you can see in the comments, pretty much everyone agrees the pictures are better on the S22. You are talking about filming.
Video still needs some work especially in low light and on skin tones. Nothing that software can't improve. Overall s22 wins
We've reached the point where we go "They are good but just not good enough" vs few years ago where we'll say "amazing cameras improvements" We really need some sort of camera break through here, perhaps a new sensor technology to replace CMOS for better light capture on a smaller sensor and high megapixel count where digital zoom also can do an amazing job of getting closer without losing much details.
I like that you picked only one at the end while still saying they're both good at different things. I love Supersaf videos too, but he rarely gives his final choice if there was only one you could have like you've just did 👍 No matter which phone we prefer, we can't be upset by your choice. I've ordered the S22 Ultra as soon as it went on for pre order even before the first review was out and I'm happy to see it's as good as I've expected 😅
As owner of the ip13pro (and ex owner S21ultra) I have to admit that photos from s22ultra seems to me better, more pleasing, consistent, not washed out colors and without lighting artifacts. I remember that I had issue with moving subjects on S21ultra, it's difficult to catch it in video and I am happy that Tom at least tried it. Btw , this was exynos version, right ?
Yep exynos
@@Thetechchap would you be able to benchmark the exynos gpu?

Clearly S22 in all aspects except for stabilisation in video during light should be improved (during night iphone was miles ahead any other phone and here there is little difference).
nada que uma lapidação no software da Samsung não resolva 😆
Something is off with that stabilization on S22. Walking doesn't look that bad on my S20, so hopefully that's a software issue.
Honestly, video on the 13 pro max takes the cake here. Much more natural colours and better contours and depth, compared to the s22 ultra’s slightly overexposed shots. Although, the mic on the s22 ultra is leaps and bounds better
Great video and nice fair review and comparison. I've got three S22 Ultra's pre-ordered for my family, they're supposed to be available on 2/25...can't wait!
Thank you v much for this comparison video! I think you were v fair in your assessment and I really appreciated the range of scenarios you featured! 😁 Looking forward to future videos! 😌 I ordered an S22 Ultra in green and now I'm sooo excited!
Samsung is improving for me, the images are tighter and the bokeh heffects are far better, because I've compared them to the operators where they're exposed, plus samsung has just appeared, and the software hasn't been updated yet, so it's going to be even better.
Hey @techchap kudos to you. That was a bold judgment whilst most reviewers chuckle to say it out.
Software updates are definitely needed. I’m also curious about the difference between SD 8 gen 1 vs exynos on photo differences. The portrait video looked terrible on the s22 here. I’ve seen reviews where it looked better on Samsung (SD version). I owned the s21 ultra then switched to iPhone 13 and I MISS the s21 ultra camera. After updates I felt the s21 ultra was superior in everything except video. The versatility was amazing. However, I find my iPhone to be more consistent. Every once in a while the s21 did some weird stuff with coloring and blurry photos on moving subjects. It looks like Samsung fixed the blurry photo issue. I just wish the contrast and colors were right in the middle of these. The iPhone dynamic range on some photos and videos is 🔥
The first impression here is the noise cancellation on S22utra is awesome. Wow very clear
Really like the comparison and reasoning behind choice. After seeing a few videos like this I think it's clear to say objectively Samsung takes better photos although it still depends on personal preferences and iPhone takes better videos, so if you take more videos than photos you'd prefer the iPhone and viceversa, not bringing ecosystems into consideration that is.
Yep that’s fair!
@@Thetechchap how come iphone's flatter profiles are social media ready? 🤷♂️ I'm pretty sure people would choose s22u in blind test.
I agree. I switched to iPhone from s21 ultra and I absolutely miss the camera but I really like the videos on iPhone. I’m so torn 😂.
@@Mdogbrown 13 pro?
I like the iPhone's videos but they still have the noticeable lens flare, so S22U for me i guess.
1. The microfiber cloth is for the SLR lenses with (3-7) multilayer interferential coating, on phones (where your greasy fingers very often stay close to the lenses) I found that glasses wet wipes are a must. 2. It would have been nice to also look at 108mpx mode (that one impressed me most on my S22U) and eventually super-steady shots which so far only seems to work up to FHD and not on 4K, but in fact that is the thing that we would want from Samsung on the next update ;)
Seems like without 1st major update. S22U is holding up pretty well! Looking forward to it
This might just be the biggest camera difference btw two generations of a phone. I mean, the S22 Ultra's camera is significantly better than the S21U, especially the portrait mode. I think Samsung now inarguably has the best portrait mode among all smartphones
But still it look shaky when moving
idk about portrait that might be a little bit too far... but the mic quality is so damn good. The S22 ultra mic sounds like a mic that is trying to isolate sound and focus more on your voice, while the iPhone 13 pro is like a wide spectrum, which is trying to pick up all of the sounds around you. Idk which one I prefer because while I like isolated mics while Im on a video call, if im showing someone a video of something cool in nature, I would ant them to hear all of the sound.
@Uravcommenter somehow, I've been obsessed with portrait picture lately, so for me, it's kind of easy to see how well it improved. And you are totally right about the mic. While I like S22U's isolated mics, I still like 13's more open mic. But, for samsung, you can adjust how your mic works when you use pro video
S22 ultra is absolutely amazing.
🔥🔥🔥
Tom, a very classy medieval environment, nice! along with the stylish music intro
One thing to note. It seems like the S22U tends to lean slightly darker. That means the image can be brightened in post processing and the detail will remain intact. Brighter images tend to lose detail that cannot be recovered in post processing.
Samsung cameras usually get better a month after release (especially the s10 in 2019, the selfie cam was a disaster and stabilisation also got better by a lot)
It took my S20 Ultra about 6 months to peak in camera quality and to have the focus issue fixed.
My galaxy S10 plus just died 1 month ago because the motherboard gave up, i didnt even use it that much, i used my galaxy A3 2016 more intensively then the S10 lol and yet im not still stuck with the A3 after 6 years, still great phone tho and the galaxy S10 plus definitely got better camera software tho
Wow, the cameras on the S22 Ultra are shockingly amazing! Samsung definitely cleaned up with its AI. Seriously can't wait till I get mine around mid-March.! Personally, I may not like the boosted contrast look in all the shots, although it'll probably look good in most scenarios. Also, I've seen in other videos that the shadows are brought down to increase clarity; something else to consider. I'm just taking mental notes on how I'm gonna be editing photos in post... hah!
Just use the 16bit RAW and dont care much about Samsungs contrast :) Big stepup for photography imo
I can't wait!!
The green light or dit next to the camera is to show that the camera is active. It's meant to be a security measure so users have a more safe feeling of not being spied on.
Let's try to keep in mind that the IPhone 13 PM has alot of updates whereas the S22 Ultra hasn't had all the planned updates its getting for the camera and video so its gonna be unstoppable and incomparable in a month or 2.
Have you had the chance to try the 12-bit HDR on Samsung? As usual, great video.
Fantastic video like always! what a beautiful village you chose to test the cameras! I'd go for the S22.
The video on the S22u was weirdly shaky in your comparison. I think you need to turn video stabilization on or off. There is a bug in some models where the functionality is inverted.
Hi thanks for your work,Any chance of a slowmo review, is it worth getting the s22 over previous s20s models or the iPhone13promax
This video left me speechless. Very nice review. Good job! May I ask how was the battery? Did it also improve compare to S21U?
S22U is definitely new camera king! HANDS DOWN!
I always felt sasung was better and now s22 ultra even more
Agree more realistic photos hope they improve video stability galaxy this time🔥

Hey Tech Chap, i have a question for you. do the s22 ultra uses the telephoto sensor for moon shots or it uses the main cam?
Always love it when you do your phone tests in Wells. Fun fact, there is a boarding school there that was founded in 909 - before the battle of Hastings. There is a boarding house on Vicars Close. I know this because I went to this school and boarded in that very boarding house. My dad told me before I enrolled that it was going to be nothing like Hogwarts... Boy was he ever wrong.
The microphone quality bests the iPhone hands down. It's so crisp like a nicely baked set of potato chips.
I guess there is some problem with the software of the s22 because even the s21 ultra does not shake that much in the video.
Fingers crossed for an update
@@Thetechchap yeah really hope they fix that. Pretty sure not even my note 10+ has that judder. Also night time shots the lights flicker weirdly due to the judder it seems. So far the picture quality I've seen from s22 I'd incredible vut the video has been super disappointing due to the judder

I'm really interested in the 22 Ultra, but currently, I feel most video comparisons that I see the video it takes look jittery which kinda defeats the image stabilization.

I would be interested to see the difference between the two when you turn on the built-in filters with the iPhone. Could it be more versatile or can you make the photos look exact the same?
Just beginning to realise how good the Samsung S22 Ultra really is.
Thanks for testing moving subjects! I can't believe nobody is doing that.. like not enough people in this world have pets and/or kids.
the thing about the s22 ultra's mic is that it almost sounds like your ears are in a vacuum when you playback the mic recordings. it cuts out background noise so you can't even judge what type of room you're in based on the sound output
Great comparison, other youtubers are biased towards a particular phone, this feels honest.
I just pre-ordered my S22 ultra. I'm coming from the S10 plus. The only thing I will miss is the ability to expand my memory. Unfortunately, att did not offer the 1 terabyte version, so I had to settle for the 512GB version. I use a lot of memory, and I am hoping I will not run out of storage before my next upgrade. I really wish Samsung would give us the ability to expand the memory in later models. I know, that ship may have sailed already. I may or may not cancel my pre-order. I'm still on the fence about the limited memory. Samsung is out of stock on the 1 terabyte version.

Hey can you please answer this question? Does the S22 ultra come with a screen protector? My note 10+ came with one. Apparently the s20 and s22 series also came with one everywhere except in the US. I really really really appreciated the screen protector as it was perfect and flawlessly protected my note 10 screen for over 2 years. The oleophobic coating also never rubbed off. I don't get why the US isn't getting it. But I'm really hoping that we have the screen protector in Europe. It's impossible to find a screen protector that sticks on the edges, doesn't interfere with the finger print sensor and doesn't mess up screen quality. The samsung one is absolutely amazing. I used to never care about the screen protector but every phone I've had the oleophobic coating would run off which was 10x worse than even the worst scratches. I never knew how important a screen protector was before samsung shipped their phones with them. I really really hope we have them on the s22. Third party protectors never seem to work right.
I have the 13 Pro Max right now, came from the S20 ultra, and I just miss the versatility with the cameras on Samsung devices, I'm considering switching back to Samsung.
The cameras are way better in the S22 Ultra. The details, colours, edge detection, contrast, etc. Even the daylight videos looked better. The only area where it was behind was the night video, which is not very relevant. Very impressed.
The video stabilization is also behind the iphone, hopefully they can fix it in an update. I did prefer some shots on the iphone, like the castle, and the video with the ducks, I just thought the colours were nicer (although - maybe they weren't realistic). But overall this isn't such a big deal since you can tweak those kinds of things if you really want to. I also think the s22 has a little bit too much contrast and is a touch too sharp, but the iphone is a bit washed out and too soft... somewhere inbetween the two would be nice. But yeah overall s22 is pretty far ahead when all things considered.
The S-pen can be used to take a picture remotely which is a nice bonus.
Woah didn't even realise that you're recording audio on the Samsung when the video started! Man Samsung's killing it with the camera!!
The iPhone has better video recording and the S22 takes better photos. Simple.

@@saibajinzero iphone better in video nightmode and macro, but its still early in 2022. I think iphone 14 will be the best cameraphone of 2022.
I'm kinda leaning on S22 Ultra here. The 13 pro max is dim when it comes to video taking, almost to the point where it has a filter on while the S22 Ultra seems so vibrant. I wonder if samsung is using something processing methods to have theirs so vibrant.
Thank you for the review. I think in photos S22U is a winner, only in macro photos iPhone looks much better. Sucks that S22u video stabilization is bad, really was hoping they would finally improve it. I doubt they will fix it with a software update. But sound is night and day difference, where S22u is ahead. And overall more vibrant and contrast photos look better, plus HDR on samsung looks better in a sunny environment. But I'm more interested in regular S22 vs iPhone13 pro and S22 vs S21 or S20 (is what i'm using). Hope you will upload a video on that.
Hi, great video! May I ask how was the battery on S22U during this test? Thanks!
Imagine if Samsung developed their own system software as the already have their own chip. This would be a serious game changer. They can maximize optimization. Rocket up al their phone battery life, performance.
They really should they have a lot of the worlds market share to do so if they really wanted to .
@@asianstud7 You have a very simplified way of seeing it. Samsung phones run Android so are always limited by what Android can do when it comes to camera software. They essentially have to optimise their own software on top of Androids own
@@franklingoodwin I think they're saying ditch Android and create their own Samsung OS
@@Bmasta717 They already did, Tizen. It's not as good as Android and isn't on any of their phones or smartwatches

So that they can better optimize and own and develop the "whole stack" like Apple can with ios. Also, fun fact. Samsung could have bought Android before Google. Unfortunately, looking back , it was a tremendous mistake on Samsungs part to not have bought it. Look it up!
Wow, the stabilization on the iPhone 13 Pro is amazing, it looks like it's on a gimbal
I've never heard a reviewer refer to the zoom capabilities as "stalkery". Bit of projection going on there?
Great camera comparison. Would love to also see the difference in 3rd party apps for the s22 to see if they really fixed their camera issues there.
That stabilisation on the S22U in the first minute of the video is so bad. But hopefully will get fixed with the release update. I think a lot of things might get fixed later on, which is a good sign (for example the yellowish colors as well).
It's surprising considering the s21 ultra had better stabilization than the iphone. And apparently the s22 series has 58% better ois. This is probably just due to the early software
It still stomped the mud out of the iPhone though, so it doesn't matter
I personally Take more pictures with my phone than I take video so I’m going with s22 ultra💪🏽🔥🔥
I think 99% of us make a lot more pics than videos, the storage would be full very fast otherwise. :)
For now I'm sticking with my S21U and the Flip3. I definitely would have updated if they included newer features rather than software updates. I dream of a Ultra with a small screen on the rear. You would still have the front facing camera for calls and such but from my Flip3 experience I've saved a boat load of time but not picking up my phone but just turning on my outside screen. Hell I even have a sideloaded app so I can watch stuff on the outside screen. You can play games on the outside but it's generally not big enough. But I look forward to seeing what Apple's response is going to be. Finally USB-C? Maybe even a fold? Nah still too early for them to get into these trends. Lol
2:00 iPhone Better in Video Love the Warm Temperature and Flat Image. Compare to Samsung Cool Temperature and Contrast Boost in Mid Tones and High Tones
When asking for moving objects I think its more important in lower light situations like indoors. Outside it's bright enough for the camera to choose a higher shutter speed. For me is video recording more important but can't get used to the iPhone. Still grab my S21 in most cases. I really hope Samsung fixes the camera jitter which is mainly due electronic stabilization.
I think that apple have reached the limits of a 12mp sensor and it’s finally starting to show. Can’t wait to see what their processing can do with more pixels to work with.
Next iPhone will be with 48 megapixels.
