iPhone 14 Pro Camera is BAD? (vs Pixel 7 Pro & S22 Ultra!)
We asked two professional Photographers to participate in a Blind Camera Test to see if the iPhone 14 Pro's camera is ACTUALLY overprocessed as MKBHD claimed. Let's find out!

Pixel for me too. I think that if iPhone 15 doesn't have USB-C, I'll go Google. I think that all the images they got via picassa clearly trained well their AI.
100% correct Pixel is Greatest of all
Gotta admit, the Pixel 7's pictures are phenomenal. iPhone's pictures used to be the most realistic, but now Pixel undoubtedly reigns supreme.
True, as a die hard Apple fan I don't like the look of the new iPhone pictures. They are too overcooked, no shadows, too bright faces, too sharp and sometimes green color cast. Pixel was definitely the most natural and what I liked the best most of the time. If it only wasn't Android…😀
@@Razertw Android for the win 😎
Absolutely Yes only if it wasn't for that darn blurring out filter. Is it only in portrait mode or is it some way to turn it off in the Pixel 7?
@@Velodynamic only in portrait because thats how portrait works or supposed to work on all phones Portrait is used when you want to focus on the main subject and blur the remaining
As a pixel fan, I just assumed the iPhone camera was still winning. This is refreshing
So Marques was right. 😅
The oversharpening has become worse.
Yep, the previous video didn't age well lol
Yup, dude posted a video literally saying MKBHD was right lmao
@@IsraelAvina yep and look’s like he didn’t know what to say at the end but should have at least acknowledged that it looks like MKBHD was right
He never lies
Found myself choosing the pixel way more than any of the other two. Way to go Pixel.
Right
Just got the p7p i love the shots it takes 🤌
I have the regular pixel 7 and I'm always impressed every time I point the phone against the sun and take a pic (which most photographers try to avoid if you want to get details on the subject), it always comes out with so much dynamic range and details
on vacations just the picture remember feature also just makes u look like an professional
Google wasn't' kidding when they said they did lot of research on people's face and corrected their colors. I think their AI algorithm grows bigger and bigger with users input, and over the year we will be treated with most natural looking color corrected pictures out of pixel devices. I would have chosen s22 in almost 4 instances over iphone, both were too close. To me pixel, s22 and iphone. But if iPhone's pro raw pictures are used, pixel and iphone should have been so close leaving s22 far far behind... Overall, great job guys!
agreed. the only thing that needs improvement is their "bokeh" and how it "cuts out" the subject. it's definitely improved compared vs my old px6 but it's still pretty bad.
@@KZhead-Censorship-Police if they pull the trigger on having a ToF sensor for the pixel 8 series they can nail that easily.
@@KZhead-Censorship-Police they also really need to use optical zoom for portrait. The sharpening is horrible
Hahaha, maybe it will like with search engine. We can argue what is better in many situations like iPhone vs Android, beef or chicken etc. but when it comes to search engines Google with their huge data and perfecting algorithm for decades is far above anyone else.
Samsung s22 has its own raw mode, which is called Expert Raw
I switched over to the iPhone 14 pro max this year from a Pixel 6 pro and the thing I miss the most about the Pixel is the photos. The photos I got out of the pixel were the best of any phone I’ve ever had.
nooo, i change the 6 pro and now i have de 7 pro, and its better, but continue with the noise video problem.
Really interesting to see a comparison made this way, a lot of effort went into it, great video, thanks! 🙏😀 Results surprised me a bit too.
Really great to have professionals to identify what is important from an informed photography point of view.
The Pixel 7 was quite a surprise. I would have expected the iPhone 14 to be better. Before I retired a few years back, I owed a photography studio for 4 decades, and was a very early adopter of digital back in the mid 90s. After watching other iPhone 14 pro/max videos by Max and Vadim, I bought the iPhone 14 pro a month ago. Maybe I'll need to glue a Pixel 7 to the back of it. ;-D
Not required bro, take pixel 7a as secondary phone when it will launch
Yes same thing max made it look like it blew the competition out of the water that’s why I bought mine too LOL but by FAR the pixel is better in a lot of situations
Bruh Pixel's always was better than iphone
I heard pixel 8 is gonna have a huge camera upgrade so i suggest waiting for the 8 while keeping your iphone cuz for me i prefer having 2 phones than 1
@@unbloodz1584 what huge camera upgrade can we expect ?
Max, what if you did one of these but had the photographers not hear each others' votes until the end (so they don't influence each other)?
I had the same thought too
I thought the same thing
You sound like a statistician (if anyone's wondering that's a good thing)
Check out mkbhd's video about this. Had 21 million unbiased votes and Pixel won by a mile.
How about him not asking if they're sure about the picture they chose, because he's iphone biased.
Nice comparison from a professional perspective. I own Pixel 7 Pro and is definitely a surprise in every situation. Just put out from the pocket, double click on the power button and in 1 second and a half you have an awesome pic in every scenario. I really enjoy this piece of tech!
What do you think of the front camera though? I was really disappointed, the quality is so bad... I got a pixel 7 and my old Xiaomi 9lite takes better pictures at home...
@@io100x100unfortunately the selfie cameras on the new pixels are truely horrible :( I really hope the next ones will fix this issue. It holds the phone back a bit. I have a Pixel 6 and otherwise I'm very happy with the phone. But Video and Selfie Camera could use a good update to get on iPhone Level
It's funny how Max's team always chooses the darker Iphone photos when it's in the night but the professional photographers enjoyed the scene to be a little bit brighter lol

Love your blind camera videos and so glad you brought on some new people to the mix !
Great video. It would be really interesting if you did this again but also took the same shots with a real camera and compared those to the smartphones.
I have the Pixel 7 Pro and I have taken Night Sight photos that came out a little blurry. There is a neat trick that I use in the Google Camera that makes it come out a LOT better. After you have taken the Night Sight image, use the Photo Unblur feature and it will sharpen the image and remove the blur. It's pretty cool and makes for a really GREAT image! I think all three phones take great photos, but it's quite clear, judging by the photo preference count in this video, that Pixel 7 Pro photo processing is, by far, the best!
That's what happens when you are not Iphone biased. First time on this channel lol
Funny thing is both the photographers are iPhone users and Eugene even said he expected to come in with an iPhone bias, thankfully their unbiased professionalism shone through.
True 😂.
Bring these two men for more photo/video unbiased comparison in future . They are funny and professional Thanks
Great video. Which one do you think is better for macro video or photography of gemstones and crystals? I am trying to choose one of these to create content.
as a photographer and videographer myself. i prefer pixel. iphone too much HDR will better if has on off feature. or got slider to adjust percentage.but the problem with iphone they want us to follow them. wont give us options.
LMAO Max Tech really took MKBHD video so personal Hahahaha
Only to be proven wrong 😂
@@StonedNoob Haha exactly. apple fanboy was hurt.
I would appreciate it if my Pixel had better video. That being said I'm not making a movie and the quality is already fantastic. So that leaves the more important metric: photos, and the Pixel is kicking ass. In addition the Pixel is also providing all the other amazing phone features that apple can't match. Let's not forget the Assistant.
yup ikr, but you can feel the videography on Pixels have improve a bit. It Just we have been pampered with Iphone video quality tht y 🤣
Hopefully Pixel 9 will beat iPhone in video too
I found it interesting that the least expensive device was chosen by professional photographers to give the best results. I really am surprised.
it because your paying for the name at that point mean if the the iphone 14 pro max was didn't have apple realtered with it it would be like £200
As a photographer, I think it's hard to judge coz even we prefer our shots a little warm / cool, bright sometimes and deep shadows other times. It's a matter of perspective and the theme of the photograph. I think it'll take seconds to edit any one of the images to look like the other 2. So basically these phones are doing a great job in different styles. All 3 are very comparable.
S22 user?
But when you compare their price range then the pixel is best for photography.
@@DC-ej4xd huh?

Have an S22 Ultra and I think switching to 108MP reduced the right amount of processing. A quick example would be the fire shot at 19:30 since I have take several fire shots and they look more like the ones on left or sometimes on the right depending on the lighting while Max said he tried 4 times and it looked the same.
I think the guy never took the time to properly manually tune the phones and took most shots in auto mode (vs Pro).
@@C_R_O_M________ Yes and that's fine but he did change it to 108 MP for S22 which isn't the default cam
Yeah, the 22 ultra isnt a simple point and shoot camera. You have yi change some stuff around and it will always take the cake when you use it proporly.

thanks for including the low light video at 18:24, that was exactly what i was looking for. The low light category is so different from full daylight, and many reviewers don't take this into account at all.
Best video yet. These guys should be back again ❤
One of the challenges watching these and similar videos is the way the photos are displayed on your device - the one you are using to watch the videos - is not the same as seeing them on a neutral screen. For me watching this on an iPadPro 11: iPhone 14 Pro - 8, Samsung S22 - 9, Pixel 7 Pro - 23.
Ahh yes, ecosystem. Where you have to have the correct screen to correct for the wonky skin tones that your camera captures 🤌
This was really revealing, thank you for mentioning updates! I noticed between Samsung S22 (not ultra) and the Pixel 7 (not pro) and Iphone 14 (not pro/max) that I had a much harder time deciding, but once being a bit more realistic with my use case and budget, decided the 7 pro is worth it, and when it comes to a "starting point" it definitely seems to get the closest to "ready to edit", natural just shot look, but not bad if shared as is. Very respectable quality in most cases, and bordering perfect tones/colors in a smaller portion. That smaller portion basically never exists for me with the other two. Samsungs hyper saturation, warm contrasty thing is amazing shooting people with really fair skin, and I love the look of it shooting outdoors, but I think Iphone and Samsung reveal their weaknesses (less strengths? 2nd strengths? still not bad phones by any stretch, just remember what your first android photos looked like...) when there is a complex scene, or detail needed in a human subject. Pixel still does a few odd things at times, but 7/10 times I think it does well enough I wouldn't be hunting for settings for a retake. That's amazing, because it almost nullifies carrying any other cameras except for an action cam or something video specific-- To be fair on that front- I think Iphone still shoots the best videos if you don't need large format, just shooting a youtube clip etc. Hard to complain, they have it dialed it.
One of the best comparisons I've seen on youtubeyt. Thanks for your professional content
Hey Max, i think you should do this test a bit differently where you ask for first second and third position. It will be great to know which device is the second winner.
i recently bought a p7 pro, i can agree that the photos it takes are excellent.
Im a photographer and I bought the Pixel 7 Pro like a week ago and man this phone does such a great job with photos
Despite the Pixel being the underdog in terms of specs, it's killing it out there... Phenomenal job by Google once again!
it will lead in the future when AI takes the center stage
Thank you for another great video - Keep them coming!
Can you do an unbiased comparison between 48mp proraw, 108mp expert raw and pixel 7 pro's 50mp mode (which doesn't allow you to shoot in 50mp btw)
I do own a Samsung S21 Ultra which i consider pretty similar to S22 ultra and one thing where it really shines is the ability to have full manual control on all the 3 lenses. Having a composite RAW file from Expert RAW! May be you should make a video of comparing the RAW images and comparing the full potential of all 3 images - might be of interest to a smaller audience though
Yeah, I felt like these guys were way too concerned with exposure and colors, those are so easy to fix in post. The samsung had the least fake clarity/sharpening and looked like an actual photo instead of some computerized image. I switched to iphone from the s11 back in the day but now might have to switch back if samsung ever figures out how to do good video.
@@enlnh Samsung definitely does not look natural in my opinion. They just smooth faces way too much.
ExpertRaw has more control on S22 Ultra and the selfie camera is available in RAW as well. Trust me it's mind boggling what you can do with it.
I love the way the comparison was done, good job with the pro-photographer
Hey Max, maybe a suggestion for next time following up on my last comment but first things first: your comparisons are for me the most informative AND funny of it's kind, please keep on doing! So you may consider for next time to group photos, this way everybody can tailor the results to his/her own type of use. I do only a few selfies, macros and nighttime photos e.g but a lot of portrait, landscapes, buildings (outside, inside), citylife and a few videos too. So if I can make partial results I can choose the camera that is strong in the categories I prefer and neglect the ones I don't care so much.
Marques was right bro the pixel just been way better and the blind scientific test was correct. The dude who did the test flips back and forth too much because if you was check previous videos when he talks about the iPhone it’s all natural and the others have this and that now he is taking himself out the equation and saying a lot of people and not including his self.
😂 I tried to tell him Marques wasn't dunking on iphone 14 pro max. They need to work on somethings there's nothing wrong with that
Hes so biased, claims not to be but its obvious
@@kgzdelivery what marques is saying iPhone switched to a 48mp camera that needs updating because they’re processing the images just like there 12mp counterparts. It is gonna get better with the iPhone 15 pro they not gonna do anything else to the 14 pro and pro max

I love the Pixel. Definitely better than my iPhone 14 Pro for photos.
Great video! Best one I've seen doing cameras comparison!
Were those shots taken in samsung always taken in 108mp or the default 12..??
I'm 2 weeks with my Google Pixel 7 Pro. I have to be honest I have a bit of buyers remorse wondering if I made a mistake. After viewing this video I realize I made the right choice, I always picked the Pixel 7 Pro photos and videos when it mattered but others phones when all the pictures just didn't look right. I am so happy to find this video.
Please do one like this with the upcoming S23 Ultra, looking forward to buy it.
Are the pictures always taken with portrait mode? Is that what you should be doing? I always use the standard picture mode.
I would appreciate this type of comparison - loved it .
Made a whole video opposing Marques only to prove him right 😂
MKBHD is overrated
As a videomaker, photographer, and a s22u owner i picked Pixel 7 in almost every photo, in nightmode i choose more of the s22u but im rlly impressed, pixel would aways stay behind in camera compared to the competition and in this one their crushing it.
I think you should have them do the MKBHD blind photo test and see how that goes with 16 phones in the mix!
I feel like the iphone still needs the software corrections for the new 48megapixel sensor , the same way the pixel needed them with the 6. But Overall in my own personal use i have noticed and overly warm tone in night mode photos with iphone. Im sure a lot of iphone issues can be corrected with software but its a matter of whether they actually do it, Or just decide to fix the software issues only on the 15’s cameras to make them seem better when in reality it could be fixed with the 14’s. Either way Apple needs to step it up and decrease the price. Or atleast keep the price but actually do some innovation
Why would Apple reduce price when people are willing to pay extra year over year? iPhone 15 Ultra will be another $100-200 extra and people will still buy like hot cakes, mark my words
I would love to see a new version of this video with the S23 Ultra.
Max, it looks like you were in my area shooting these pictures. :-) I started recognizing the area in your photos and once you showed the red wagon I knew for sure. LOL Were you just visiting or do you live in the area?
I’m such a fan of your work, and it inspires me a lot. Thanks for this eye-opening video.
Being semi pro (side gig) photographer also I'm not at all surprised. The comments with all that is wrong with iPhone processing especially colour and white balance is my experience seeing most pics taken from misses 14pro. I honestly think it gets those things wrong more than my low mid spec oppo even (my base comparison gear is Nikon and FujiFillm). I guess just save the money (especially in the USA) and have better is the take away from this video
When you take photos with the samsung don't use the 108 pxl when it's in a bright or dark area bc it's not HDR use the second choice and make sure to turn Auto HDR on , Hight efficiency pictures on, and scène optimiser on
Yeah, not point and shoot with 108. 108 camera requires very certian cercumstancis
Does it differ with raw as well?
I need a day long battery and a good camera for ocassional photography. So which should i go for iphone 14 or pixel 7 pro. I am extending my budget for both of them so not thinking of changing my phone any time less than 4 years.
I think the time it takes to take night pics can be either reduced or increased in the night sight slider. It varies from 2secs to I think 10secs
I got a pixel 7 pro recently and I can confirm. Main sensor is amazing, portraits are shitty. I think they can improve them via software. Videos are ok, not consistent like the iphone. But I use the main for 80+% of the time so I am pretty happy with it. I think most people use the main sensor for the majority of the time, so the pixel really got a banger. Especially with the non pro version, such good value. I like bigger screens so I went for the pro. Very interesting video, confirmed my choice. 10/10 :)
I love my Pixel 7 Pro. I bought a holder for night shots to keep it steady and it's pretty damn good in the dark!
Oh damn how all good picture quality from all three. I myself am an iPhone 13 Pro Max user, of course the best photos come in sunlight, but night photography is also very convincing. The iPhone's cameras are really good, but what I like the most is the app, it's really simple to use and hasn't bugged once during my use. But smartphone cameras can do really well and I can't wait to see what the next years will bring to cameras
I use the Pixel 7 pro and it is really good. I live about 40 miles from mt Rainier and i zoom in 30x and i can see every small detail of the mountain no matter the lighting with the exception of nighttime. I highly reccomend it.
What if the manufacturers looked at a video like this and said: hey, let’s fix that in our next big OS upgrade?
Does showing the picture results on a Mac had anything to do with the processing of the image since apple devices work better together?!
13:25 he says the right one was the worst but it's actually the left one that's the worst. It's blown out, paddle no shadows and muted colors. The right one was a bit bright on the skin but it has a more natural realistic look. The center has great shadows and colors but it's a bit warm, although that makes the center picture pop the most.
I got pixel 22 Samsung 8 and iPhone 10. Love the Pixel’s natural camera
Samsung always had this poppy over saturated look about their cameras. It’s like it’s already edited out the gate. Honestly with the great lighting any of these cameras can get the job done
As a Pixel 7 Pro owner, the only problem I have sometimes is it going too "hdr" and sometimes looking flat. But it being more true-to-life with colors than the iPhone and Samsung makes more sense. Then you can add your filter or adjust the photo.
@@ElectricC0mpany isn't it too dark (the Pixel)?
This is so fun, love the review.
I think it would be apt to also compare the images with a high res DSLR image so that we know how the scene actually looked like
10 S22, 7 iPhone, 22 Pixel. Honestly most surprised I didn't end up with more iPhone, as I chose it 4 out of the first 5 and then it just fell off as pics became more difficult to capture (lighting, shadows, colors etc)
The fact that the one that depends the most on post-processing is the one that's processed the most natural, incredible work by the Pixel!
I don't understand the discussion about which camera is the best. The photos I have from the 1970s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 10s and 20s are all great. Oh yeah and before the 70's from my dad. The atmosphere that the old photos show is just great. It doesn't always have to be better. The moment you capture is much more important. So, it doesn't matter at all which phone you choose. Choose one of the brands you like the most and it's okay
Thank you all for this video! It was cool!
Nice job, Pixel! Hoping they keep improving video quality for when I eventually upgrade my Pixel 7 Pro.
I can't be a more proud pixel user.
Great battle, very nice. Could you compare the three with the new vivo X90 pro plus?
This was a real eye opener. thanks for the Wonderful honest review
I have both Pixel 7 pro and s22 ultra, P7P nails it pretty much every time, but s22U has much better selfies. I don't like selfies on P7P, they look unnatural and overprocessed.
Pixel 7 pro's camera is really great! When I share the picture, most people are asking which camera I was using. It's a really good choice in terms of price and performance.. P.S: I'm not a photographer and have no any knowledge about photography. Click to focus, click to shot - all what I know)
Maybe you can consider camera comparison of old phones like Huawei P40 Pro versus the latest ones. Im curious on the result. Thank you. Really appreciate your videos 😊
Which s22 ultra variant do you have? exynos or snapdragon ?
Interesting thing for me as a 14 Pro owner is what is fixable with software upgrades. I do find iPhones night mode tricky, sometimes amazing, sometimes making it look like daytime and hard to correct. Wish someone would be able to test the fundamentals, like what the sensor and optics are capable of sine the rest is processing and adjustable.
APPLE never delivers new camera software updates to older models best example ip10/10s or any SE series still no night mode
pixel just killed it
It's so interesting to see their insight!
Being an iPhone user for years now, it was easy to tell which were shot (without editing) with the iPhone because it tends to be famous for the greener tint of images and somewhat of an over exposure in darker areas, I was shocked however, with the Pixel overall.
Way to go guys Eugene rocked it!!!
We need an update: S23 Utra vs iPhone 14 vs Pixel 7 Pro.
Honestly, the take home message for me was that any one of these phones would be an amazing upgrade (I have a Samsung S9). There were a number of these where I couldn’t decide on a favorite and at least 1/3 where I felt like I could easily edit any one of them to fix whatever its shortcoming was.
one improvement i would make for this series is to give a ranking for each picture so we know the difference between second and third aswell as first
I was planning to buy the iphone 13 Pro since it has the same price with the Pixel 7 Pro in my country but after watching this i will get the Pixel 7 Pro google image processing is extraordinary my only complain is the portrait mode
The iPhone14 was ahead at first but with these past updates Google did something magical with the processing. Even video is improved.
Thanks for the comparison 👍

I also have realised this some time ago, i have the galaxy m51 with a gcam (google camera software) and the iPhone 13 pro max i was taking photos of a weeding last year and i give up using the iphone because it made everyone look orange just like the simpsons and even without google software the galaxy has the colors spot on and a better dynamic range also later in that month i went to a party and it's incredible how people go crazy with the iPhone photos but i was using google software on the m51 and i got better results basicaly every time in the photos, by that day i only use the iPhone to record videos
