  • As a huge Bruins fan (I played high school hockey in the early seventies), I have to say, I know hockey can be a very rough game, indeed, but I also know what my Dad taught me about sportsmanship; this ain't it. A lot of that behavior on display is being a punk. Some of this is downright dangerous, and could severely injure somebody. These are people's careers, and if somebody clocked him into next Wednesday, I wouldn't blame them at all. You don't need that little extra; finish the check hard, yes, but you don't have to get dirty about it.

  • This is the problem trying to have the refs (through penalties) and the league (through fines and suspensions) try to protect the players. You get guys like Marchand, Lucic, Dustin Brown, Raffi Torres, Sean Avery, and Darcy Tucker. I'd love to say that in the "old days" when players were allowed to police themselves, this didn't happen. But that is NOT true. There have ALWAYS been players like Marchand (and there always will be). Back when the players could "take care of things" on the ice you still had guys like Bobby Clarke, Ken Linesman, Mark Messier, Dale Hunter, Ulf Samuelson and Claude Lemieux. (You can probably guess my age from that list.). BTW: Best thing the league every did for Sean Avery was to suspend him BEFORE his game against the Flames after his "sloppy seconds" comment. The NHL should made him play against Phaneuf, then fined and suspended him.

So I don’t see how you accidentally put the curve of your stick exactly in between someone’s legs to sack tap someone perfectly with the flat side. It was a hilarious perfect sack tap. The kind that is not an accident. Not when you’re literally a professional. That’s like accidentally firing a weapon. How? This is literally our profession. We do this better than ANYONE. Literally some of the best in the world. You can ask but I don’t think you’re gonna find the losers. 😂. They uhhh retired from the league so to speak.
