Valentia Shevchenko seems like a natural heel to me. She really should just embrace it. She might not even realize "heels" are a thing the UFC. Lots of people don't consciously understand. Chael talks about this stuff constantly, but the fighters aren't paying attention. It's kind of shocking, really.
Sadly she's probably the best out there in ufc but either loses at a terrible time and isn't matched up right. If you did shev vs returning Rousey. Or even cyborg in Brazil or something. There's just not alot of other big names in woman's mma. Nunes had her wars. Harrison lost , cyborg is in a different company. Ronda is retired. She can't draw because a combination of all that. The knees were perfectly legal under Nevada’s Unified rules. One hand down does not make a fighter grounded.

You can score it for her, but not hands down. Grasso had more sting at the end of her punches and Val did little when she brought the fight to the ground (minus the guillotine). Grasso had bigger moments and had them when they counted.

Valentina isn’t used to not being the UFC’s favorite. Mexico > Valentina for the UFC. They don’t overtly root for or against any fighters. They do put fighters into situations though. Like losing your belt on the scale by a half pound, finishing your fight, and then having to go get your belt in Abu Dhabi. They don’t root, but they create situations.
It is clear the wanted the Mexican to win….. all of them in fact.

In Abu Dhabi there are 36-39 hours to hydrate and arrive as best as possible for the night of the fight, they fight at sea level, the best hotels. Oliveira doesn't have to cry, only his fans, he himself said that everything was fine, he had one of the best weight cuts. and when they did not have a title event at UFC 283, they offered him a rematch in Brazil vs Islam and he said he was not mentally prepared. Now he has his revenge and has a chance of winning in a place where the rehydration time for the fighters is respected. In Australia at UFC 284 there were 28 hours of rehydration and on that occasion no one said that Islam was affected, and having 8 hours less to rehydrate Volka did not affect him in the same way as Islam, because Volka does not make that extreme cut at 155 lbs, while Islam needed his 36 hours to get to his best, can you imagine if Charles had had 8 fewer hours to rehydrate? Or Chandler? or any light weight fighter. Also at UFC 293 Adesanya and Strickland had 44 hours to rehydrate, in Australia always change that, in any other place there are 36-39 hours

I think that Shevchenko was just trying to reiterate her point (of Mexico Independence Day bias) by suggesting that they do the re-match on Kergestan's Independence Day (I don't think that Shevchenko was actually serious about doing the fight in Kergestan). Just my guess though.

How about decentralized judging on UFC fights? Like do a UFC app which allows you to vote in each round for the winner. Make it secure against abuse and sell it to people, on a subscription basis. That would even raise the interest in fights, as anyone could participate.

@Chael Yes the fight was in the US (Nevada) but on Mexican Independence Day and dedicated to Mexicans: UFC Noche. The crowd was predominately Mexican, so it was a hostile Valentina environment and I get her analogy to fight in Kyrgyzstan on Kyrgyzstan's Independence Day, where the refs might be biased towards her. What part of that don't you get Chael?

Lets face it, if Ariel sees a an opportunity to take a dig in any way shape or form at the UFC, even if its not even UFC appointed like the judges, he'll jump on that opportunity to take digs every time. His ability to be an unbais journalist went out the window a long time ago. That said, given Dana tried to destroy the guy, it is what it is. I drift in and out when it comes to Ariel nowadays. Used to watch religiously his shows but its too obvious when he has an agenda be it reporting on the UFC or baiting his guests to speak unfavourably towards the UFC. Its not journalism and im only interested in facts, not feelings.

I saw about half of that interview, did Ariel ever get around to teller her that those knees weren’t illegal? He mentioned it before the interview saying something along the lines of “Valentina doesn’t know the rules and how do we expect the referees (or judges idr) to know the rules”.

@@jasonmiller9495 I saw that video too but one thing that’s a bummer is judges can’t go back and analyze the fight after it happened. When I saw the fight I gave round 4 to Alexa but when I watched it again the next morning I thought Val won that round and then I saw the weasel video a couple hours later.
My comparison is, my mother cooked dinner for her family, my grandmother cooked dinner for her family, as did her mother, and I assume that trend continued down the line. My mother is a terrible cook, needs a recipe to boil water but put what was needed on a plate 365 days a year for two decades. Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know.

Here is a topic.... Bullet vs Grasso reminds me of Fury vs Wilder.... Maybe the bullet met her match? She had 9 rounds and even though she may have won others see Grasso winning... either way it wasn't a dominating performance and neither has her last 3 fights... I had Santos winning.

I agree with what you say about Val’s failure in that interview. But you don’t know how fights are currently scored. I sometimes forget the Chael commission rules are so different from real ones. For example, you get points for making a fool of yourself and the sport while talking into a microphone
These are things that champions must overcome; in the first fight, Grasso was the challenger and didn't have that support as in this fight. It's the business that calls the shots, for example, Figuieredo vs. Moreno 4 took place in Brazil because it was economically viable for the UFC
Valentina made the ultimate mistake. She left it in the hands of the judges! Everyone knows she won that fight and everyone also knows you can't expect the clowns, known as judges, to make the correct decision. I think in her interviews, she's just caught up with emotion, and she still can't believe they made that ridiculous call. Just look at the faces of the fighters, after the fight. Grasso Looks like she had the shite beat out of her and Valentina looks like she just got done wrestling. Dana has said it Many times, "don't leave it in the hands of the judges!".
