No wasted time, just straight to the tests. Nice work👍🏼
just those tests hardly appear in real life. and real life test need ground clearance as well.
scal man real life tests in these cars would just be how well they handle potholes, and this test.
Only subaru and Audi make the real AWD, others just fakes
@@lucisleesion8824 Are you aware of the fact that both cars in this test have "fake awd"?

Very nice comparison video. No rubbish, just facts. I’ve had both Subaru and Audi AWD systems and I’d buy either again in a heartbeat. For comfort / quality I’d go German, but for off-road I’d trust either! Subaru are very, very popular here in New Zealand.
Graham Brown lol German is quality????? I don't think so, seems pretty unreliable to me
Germany has the highest average quality across vehicles out of every motor vehicle producing country
Mark Butov I had an Outback Limited from 2010-2014. What a piece of absolute junk. The happiest day of my life was when I ditched it for an A4.
Jake McCoy is right but I am going to add this I’m 6’3” and the the cabin is fine even in an A4 or Golf. I find the Audi interior a much nicer place to be than the Subaru, a little clinical perhaps but really well put together.
German quality? Are you gay?
Best comparison test I've ever seen. No explanation required.
The brake dust is strong in this one. Love the videos.
Pretty close! Thanks for the comparison! Subaru looks faster than Audi in reactions but anyway they both so close in the last part (3 rollers).
That's the new quattro Ultra system available on some vehicles to save fuel. The other quattro systems are still superior.
@@mediocreman2 Ultra isn't any worse here than other quattro systems.
@@laszlokerekes3202 Who claims there is no difference? When it comes to costs - I'm sure Ultra ain't cheaper, it includes two complicated clutch units. Clutch slippage - that's how the torque is transferred.
@@laszlokerekes3202 Quattro Ultra has nothing to do with haldex, these are completely different systems.
@@laszlokerekes3202 Haldex is actually electro-hydraulic and it can hold up to 3500 Nm so with cooling system it is really strong clutch. Ultra is weaker but even though it is more than enough for day to day driving.
Excellent. Straight to the point
Awesome, would love to see same gen Audi vs Subaru in the future.
I've had both the Subaru Legacy and Audi A6 quattro. Been stuck once in the Audi in the snow but never got stuck in the Subaru. Both good but I would rate the Subaru as slightly better.
Same tires in both?
@@sdb87149 Both driving on Summer tyres. I still have a quattro Audi which gets fitted with Winter tyres in the snow and performs very well. Still think after years of driving Audis that the Subaru performed slightly better on snow and ice.
@@billlang64 Summer tires? And you're wondering, why you got stuck in snow? xD

Former Audi A4 owner, currently on my 6th Subaru. Live them both. I currently have a 6 cylinder and 4 cylinder Outback. The 6 banger is a much better car than the 4.. Better suspension, better everything. The test would have performed with a 6 cylinder Subie. That said, I trust both and love both.
2,5-4 celinddra)
Now i see where audi drivers reputation comes from. Seems like you have to rev the nuts off to make quattro transfer torque
bt6joso more like rev ur mum
I saw one in snow recently. Quattro really struggles on low grip. It wants atleast 2 gripping wheels otherwise you are going to get stuck. Which wierdly wasn’t an issue for our xdrive 320d but then again we did have a very good driver and a heavily loaded car.
PetrosRZ must be some broke-ass’ car. I mean low HP lmao
@@louvierejacques try driving ice at speed, but cool story. a tire's price doesnt tell how good it is. i never said its useless. i said there are some situations where it gets deafeated. @@petrosrz8990 Audi copied xdrive with their quattro ultra? These systems are completely different. In fact, after tests Audi discarded the system used later on by Bmw.

Of all the AWD cars out there, I’d rate Subaru and Audi the best two. I’ve had 4 Audis, 3 Subarus. Never was able to get either stuck. And I often tried! But I give the nod to Subaru based on bang for the buck. Cheaper to buy and repair, and better MPG. But both great cars.
To audi cz subaru?
Two legends.
Subaru Outback S-AWD the best ! 👍💪
Really not bad👍🏻
Looks to me like the Subie transfers power to other wheels quicker and at lower speeds? The Audi’s wheels were having to spin faster until the power was then transferred? That’s what it looked like to me

The perfect test, same conditions, and a easy winner: Subaru
I've got an A4 Allroad and my daughter has a Subaru Crosstrek. I take both in the snow with absolute confidence.
Have owned both. 1 Audi Quattro, 8 Subaru in 41 years. Audi mechanic told me NOT to own it after the warranty. Nothing but problems from Day 2 of ownership. Subaru: Never replaced even exhaust, shocks, etc in 41 years.
I've had my 2007 A4 Quattro Avant for about 7 years now and repairs have not been outrageous, no more than any other car I've owned. Parts are easy to find and not as expensive as the trolls suggest other than the windshield wipers with their propriety connector.
@@jasonk9779 I didn't realize that audi used some bs connectors for their wiper blades when I brought some replacements. It was bs. After several minutes I figured out how to take apart my wiper blades and reused the connector. Now I can just buy any cheap blades and use them on my audi.

Great clip!
Who else came here to prove what they already know.
Your comment is proof of what I already know.
Both looked close. For the prices Subaru charges these days ALL of their cars need another 50 horsepower. You also should have the option of a turbo engine or more powerful base 4 cylinder with any trim level. The turbo Outback, Forested and Legacy all failed because nobody wants to spend 40k plus just for a more responsive engine. You don't need every feature in existence just to get better passing power. Also drop the CVT transmission already, I shouldn't have to wait 3 seconds from the time I floor the car to the time it decides to accelerate while rolling in traffic. My old 07 outback with the 4 speed auto has better response for crying out loud 😂
Well with that out of the way, next up the Depreciation Test 😉
Luxury brands depreciate more than the Japanese companies. Luxury brands hold about only 30%. Whereas Subaru's in general hold over 60%. Both Quattro and the AWD system in Subaru's are excellent. Audi is a luxury brand and are a beautiful car. It will obviously cost you more in maintenance and repair. Subaru's lineup less and are known for very good reliability. Were comparing apples to oranges here. Audi's have really become a much much better manufacturers of vehicles than the past. Not so for Mercedes or BMW. Arguably Audi's are one of the best luxury brands out there next to Lexus which is always at the top spot for more than a decade. Acuras SH-AWD system has been proven an excellent AWD system. Consumers Reports named Subaru the best company for 2019. Mainly because of the new global platform Forester, Crosstrek and new Ascent 7 seater 260HP turbo that has a 5,000lb. towing capacity with a CVT transmission. Which is one of the best CVT transmissions out there next to Honda's. The new Lexus subcompact class is also using a CVT.
Exactly the same colour and style of wheels I had on the Outback. I miss that car
Thank you, the Allroad seems to handle the test better than the A6
Auto mode subaru looks better than auto Quattro. but quattro offroad mode looks very good !
I have a Subaru Outback 2011 S-AWD as a daily driver in Sweden often driving in snow, and when the grip gets really bad it's always ESP-OFF that helps me out.
As a Subaru cheerleader, I'm surprised at this vid. Never knew Quattro was THIS good, and the fact that u have to hit switches on the last test to get the Subbie to succeed
Oh no, I have to push a button to get unstuck. I had better spend $20k more for a car that does not make me do that.
Subaru love
This is why I own a Subie and an Audi so I don't have to choose, either way: easily the two best AWD systems on the market
mrglobul12 you should try Lancer EVO X
Yea same here. I have a Subaru Outback 2016 2.0 Diesel, and Audi A8 4.2 V8,2002, . Love them both. both great to drive and do great in snow.
I have both also, best AWD systems
Try SH-AWD. And there are others. But yes, these two are very good. Audi's older system was certainly better for this type of driving tho. That's why you see the original Quattro in rally and not many modern style Audi AWD systems.
My 06 outback is unbelievable in the snow. It's smaller and lighter than the new ones, that helps a lot.
В последних двух тестах Ауди за счет инерции колёс съезжает а не за счет работы привода
Nope, all you see is the operation of awd system.

best system awd
Nice to have choices. Like what you want and buy what you like. Just enjoy.
Can you guys include a cornering test? This test gives me great info on how an awd system would perform if it were stuck in snow. But that only accounts to maybe 1-2 instances a year depending on snow fall. I think adding a "cornering test" would be a better indicator of how an awd system performs. Plus, it would give us a more accurate real world result, being that we have to go around corners everytime we get behind the wheel.
Unfortunately no, we do not have any possibility to do cornering tests.
У Субару как то на мой взгляд лучше привод сработал не так ли ?

So after watching numerous videos showing Subies with underpowered engines trying to climb hills, I jumped at the chance for a 3.6R when I was shopping. I can't find any videos of the 3.6R on your list though. Have you had the chance to capture one yet? After driving very capable 4X4 trucks off road, the Outback 3.6R has been an eye opening experience in what I was missing. Thoughts on the 3.6R?
Unfortunately I didn't test 3.6R, I hope I'll get it someday - especially that it has completely different awd system.
You can clearly see that you need to floor the Audi and with the Subaru you can see the brake kicks in at the wheel that have wheel spin, except the last one the Subaru struggles.
Both performed very similar in my opinion. It might seem that the driver was hitting harder on the Audi. But that's just due to the great low-end torque that makes for a fun sportier ride compared to that subaru cvt engine(better gas mileage). So torquey It kicks the rollers away after going over them. That eats your tires up quicker though. Thing is if you're on the market for a great reliable AWD vehicle and don't want to break the bank the Subaru is a much smarter buy. If you have money to burn then even a fully decked out Subaru might still be the smarter buy. I would have love to see you conduct the entire test in "REVERSE" gear as well.
Matt James Some tests were accidentally made on reverse gear, I will put it in FAQ video at the end of the year :)
You not only pay for awd in the Audi... Audi have much better quality and equipment that is not for free. You get what you pay for.

I agree, reverse test!
I own both, on ‘05 Outback XT and an ‘18 Allroad as well as a ‘10 A3 TDI. Both are awesome in the slippery weather. Can not compare the fit, finish and tech of Audi. My (yes, dated ‘05 Outback XT) is no slouch but at best 25- 29 MPG easy driving. My Allroad driven same way 35-40 MPG. No exaggeration on MPG. Real world calculation. Compared to my ‘10 AUDI TDI at 45 MPG I couldn’t be happier. Both great vehicles. Both reliable (using my ‘10 TDI as comparison). Equipped with proper winter tires, either will go through just about anything. An ‘18 Subie is cheaper, but truthfully different targeted audiences. Audi is much more luxurious and tech equipped. My opinion, Subie an Audi produce best AWD.
dudes comparing a gas to a diesel engine WTF lmao
Don't have the Allroad in India. Settled for the Q5...Love it.
Was this with the 'x-mode' on or off with the Subaru? It would be interesting to see a comparison between the 2 modes.
Joe K It was ON only during the last test, you have a mark on the screen... There are tests on my channel of Outback diesel with x-mode on and off. check it out!
Just join Subaru owner then see this videos. I'm glad I made the choice :)
Haha I love the way that Subaru leaves the Audi behind in every test.
Its not bad but took 3 tries for last test. For subie & 2 for audi on last test.. Both solid tho. Evos is my fave tho
I wonder if the tires are catching the sides of the rollers. It seems the vehicles (especially the Audi) pull out abruptly from the three roller test when the driver applies aggressive power. That may move the vehicle left and right a bit to catch the stationary side of rollers. The driver should have kept the throttle at a steady level. Maybe.
If if tires catch the frame - it doesn't help: kzhead.info/sun/gbqkqb6Co6GuZ5E/bejne.html When it comes to throttle - here is full video about it: kzhead.info/sun/l6qsYLOHjKaGmH0/bejne.html
Great video. In the last test /3 wheels on rollers/ it seems like audi applies brakes while Subaru isn't clear. Anyway in proper ice conditions, 3 wheels off means no movement, and would require locking 3 differentials like Merc G wagon.
Thanks. Subaru also applies brakes but it requires appriopriate setup. So requires Audi. Both cars would handle situation with only one wheel with grip.
I wonder why they cant fix the small issues that are left.. just ad the parametres in the computer and it should be fine. I think the Subaru was superior in this test, and this has been proven over and over again. But nothing beats a true diff lock on all 4.. they should just add that option to the system and both cars will perform lot better on hard offroad.. - but none of these cars are ment to do hard offroad, so it is not needed..
Subaru awesome

Good to know, if ever I find myself driving on rollers on a flat parking lot. 😉 My STi has front and rear limited slip diffs, along with a driver controlled center diff - so I pretty much got it covered from a hardware perspective. Most important is the right tires for maximum traction for the conditions. (snow, dirt & mud, dry & hot, or cold, wet, heavy loam, etc)
they are super close wow, but either subie needs to reinvent cvt or manual options
All I noticed is that in the last test, Subaru somehow applies braking to certain wheels, when Audi just spins them without stopping. Wouldnt say that spinning the wheels endlessly will help in mud/snow/sand. You'd just end up deeper in the terrain.
The newest Subaru have xmode 1.0 and 2.0 for that partical situation, the 2.0 version have a pre set for snow & mud and Deep snow & deep mud which allow the wheels to spin to have enough speed to plow thru deep snow without the computer slowing you down. For deep snow, you can turn off the traction control as well.

Yeah guys but the Audi has the Haldex System with the 2.0. try the same with an 3.0 and the real quattro inside.. should make a big difference!
@Christoph Kollmer This is not Haldex, but Quattro Ultra. And in fact it is better for such test cause it may lock itself, unlike "real" quattro.
I have had an Audi A3 and Audi A4, both Quatto. I drove a Suburu Crossfit and got smoked by an old Oldsmobile. The CVT transmission felt like a rubber band about to snap. I have seen on a KZhead channel where the people bring an extra CVT belt when off reading just in case it snaps. I have so much fun driving my Audi in the snow. Sure Suburu Is great also but the CVT is horrible. Trying to pass is slow. Hit the gas on my Audi and gone.
Subaru лучшая!
Interesting comparison on (2) very similar systems. After everything is said & done, based on what I'm seeing here, the Outback wins this contest quite handily. Another point to consider is the vehicles cost factor. The Audi is one luxurious beauty & it costs a pretty penny too and is a well built German car. The thing about the Japanese auto manufacturers is they own the patent on copying other automakers technology & then making it better! Since I own a 2017 Subaru Outback Limited, 2.5i ( $32,385.00 ) out the door, my opinion is no doubt biased. I can say this with authority however concerning the Subie, in the real world of driving, i.e., ( n. central VT ) in the winter. The factory Bridgestone tires, all season M&S Duellers tyres are as useless as " tits on a boar hog ". The car cannot get out of it's own way on a flat surface in 1" of snow, unless it is ultra cold snow with zero moisture. HOWEVER, I installed a set of " winter tires " just (2) days ago & that was the game changer after 19 mos. of ownership with more " white knuckle " moments I ever care to remember on those "JUNK " Bridgestones. I went with the best, i.e., the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 SUV directional winter tyres in 225/60R18. They are surprisingly quiet on the pavement and do they ever dig in the snow! I live in steep mtn. country with a steeper still 350 ft. long d/way. After a few days of testing these tires, the vehicle's traction control light has not come on once as the vehicle now for the 1st time feels controllable on the snowy corners & various grades. The moral of the story here is TIRES... The traction ability of any system, be it 4X4, AWD, 4x2, limited slips in multiple combinations are only as good as the tires will allow... Great presentation here imho & thank you... :-)
very different systems they are.
yes, the Bridgestone Duelers are absolute shiite and Subaru should be ashamed to put them on their vehicles. I switched to a set of Yokohama Geolanders after 22k. Have yet to truly test them out, but they heads above the mushy sidewall garbage Duelers. Still would like to put some decent Rallitek springs on, as the stock springs are sub-par as well.
always confused on these subaru's with x mode, I would think the spinning wheel would break occasionally to send power around but they don't
The Subaru performance in this video slightly different than other videos that you did previously, how come? Or maybe there is some mechanical problem with this one
Edu.G Good question, but for sure there is no mechanical problem, modes work different and car passes all tests. Previously I tested diesel version of Outback, I think it may have some other software, not only for awd, but also for CVT, so whole system may work different. But that is only my guess-work.
