  • April 03, 2024 here to enjoy good natural comedy. Who else is here for some Paul Lynde 😅? He did the show from 1968-1981 before his death in Jan 10, 1982.

    • That is totally 100 percent false. I saw an interview with Peter Marshall. He stated Paul was funny as hell but didn't have the confidence so he relied on pre written gags. Of course it is easier to believe the hype.

    • Yes, it was the 1970's and he had the luxury of NBC's wardrobe specialists to help coordinate. After all, on television, there are do's and don'ts so as not to clash with the camera. Certain patterns would cause moire patterns, weird colors and just perhaps be washed out.

    • He was also Courageous to be publicly out back in the 70s. Believe it or not, I looked at him and realized that I didn't have to be miserable when I grew up. He did a lot of good and saved lives, giving hope to that generation of gay teens. Priceless on bewitched too!

Then...I listen to the genius comedy of Paul and it reminds me of watching him when Hollywood Squares first came out when I was as a kid. He's so funny...thanks Paul, for lifting my spirits today.     • @@FloraWest that's not exactly the case. First of all what you do you mean by material? Everybody has said the typical response that you stated here but no one can say exactly what that means. Did the showrunners come up with the comedic response that Paul Lynn gave, or did he think of those on his own because he knew what the questions were going to be for him. What exactly was going on here with Paul lynn, and how do you exactly know that for sure? Is that what Paul Lynn said? Give us an interview where he confesses that i.e. the material was supplied to him to make him funny by the showrunners. And if he did just know the questions beforehand so he could come up with his own funny answers, that really doesn't make a difference. So again, which is it exactly? If it was the former in which the showrunners provided the funny answers well then Paul Lynn will go down as the biggest farce in comedic history.

Now for me now that it is settled I really have no interest in Paul Lynn on the show the way I used to. He was just a delivery man. There's still a bit of confusion because the host here says that they didn't know the questions beforehand and yet gave Paul Lynn his comedic material. How does that go together? That's incoherent. You must know the questions beforehand plus the comedic material that goes along with it.

I give him credit for his comedic timing & delivery, but I can’t comment on his fast-thinking-wit “ability”. - That would be like, being amazed (& praise) of someone’s picking/knowing the lotto numbers ability (a day after the lotto numbers were announced), but the numbers drawn & the responds was on a tape delayed & shown later. (Yes, this would be criminal & illegal, but has happened, as viral prank from one family member to another, showing a previous weeks lotto drawing on a VCR/DVR, with the “victim” thinking it was a current lotto airing, & that they had just won the lottery (on a lotto ticket bought for a future lotto)

  • I was born 1 year after Paul passed and I remember enjoying his amazing sense of humor while watching re-runs of all of those old shows with my parents. But watching him on Hollywood Squares is undoubtedly the best memory I have of his incredible talents. A true example of A King Of The 1-Liners. Still extremely funny and relatable in 2022.
