Zendaya & John David Washington Break Down the Mac and Cheese Scene | Malcolm & Marie
/ netflixfilmclub
As a filmmaker and his girlfriend return home from his movie premiere, smoldering tensions and painful revelations push them toward a romantic reckoning.
I wish they had broke down the bathtub scene that was brutal.
He hurt MY feelings in that scene
I cried my heart out and couldn't see how they'd come back from it and then she delivered that last speech on the bed!!! PERFECTION!!!
What happened?
Facts‼️ that scene made me feel like shit...and I’m not even Marie💀
So we all on the same page *Tear drops while I smile* 🥲
Zendaya and John were beyond incredible in this film!
How they act, is just amazing
Youre here againnnn
I see you everywhere
Specially the Bathtub scene and the Knife scene, If you know, you know
@@jordanelejardes yesssss
i am in awe of zendaya's increasing acting ability. she is on a roll.
Brilliant 💯💯
And people were saying she is too young for John
me too! I really felt her sadness and anger for not being recognize by his mate. Now Im a new fan of Zendaya
I don't think she has improved. John David owned it. Just couldn't take her seriously her just like her past cringey interviews
@@vb8428 same, not for the interviews but she acted the same way as in euphoria especially with that voice
This movie was intense!!!
Yes!
HELLA
Intense In a chilling way
Yes!
But beautifully done
I thought this was gonna be a boring ass artsy movie but it was interesting and captivating the whole time, considering the whole movie was basically one argument.
Whats the title?
@@kevinmcdonalds2902 Malcolm and marie
I respect ur opinion
Knife scene was so gooooood not zendaya acting acting in the knife scene
Right?!
That makes me laugh when I was watching it. that was so good of a prank lmao
She had a cookie later in the film
Seem dry
Really ? I though her acting was kind of bad in this scene
I wish she ate too. How she dealt with that evening on an empty stomach is beyond me.
well she ate a cookie later in the film too 🍪
😂😂😂😂😂
She smokes about 5 cigarettes soooo that’s probably how.. 😂
Maybe she noshed at the party while Taylor was condescending her 😂
I think she had too much on her mind to think bout nothing to eat
While I was watching this movie, one of the first things I noticed was how Malcolm keeps the same suit until the end, loosing his tie, then his jacket, then his shirt, until he seemingly makes peace with Marie. He’s peeling away his armor. Just like John-David says, his whole stance relies on being steady and “impenetrable”. Another point for the visual narrative.
Opinion
Wait, this is a good observation I was wondering why he never rdd changed even though she had already bathed and everything
Nice observation...
Marie had the opposite, she was fully clothed, naked in the tub when he *ripped* into her, barely dressed again then armoured with her robe in the end. She was torn down and built up again throughout the film
John David not only sounds like his dad, but he's also incredibly handsome!
He looks like his mama...but sounds like his dad
Especially when he starts yelling
wait how am i only now realizing that his dad is Denzel Washington? holy hell
@@tymeadors855 and I believe that's actually a good thing considering when u and ur old man do the same thing specially when you father is Denzel Mothf Washington lol
@@mufti8817 yeah exactly! like i actually like him bc of his own talent and don’t just watch his stuff bc of who his dad is. i still just can’t believe i didn’t know that lol
Honestly, this scene felt the most real to me of anything in cinema. It was exactly what happens in real life with me or my parents. The cleaning and cooking when you're angry. The attempts to prevent a fight, while also wanting to start one because you are mad. The passive aggressive energy and the way that she changed her mind. It was incredibly realistic, well done.
Seriously
The bathtub scene was crazy. I wished that they broke that one down too.😊
Even if he didn’t cast her Malcom should’ve thanked her in his speech. I’m on Marie’s side.
He literally saved her life, he wanted to cast her in the film, she wasn't ready nor prepared.
@@andremotivation6561 he still should've thanked her, just for being beside him while he was making the movie. If he thanked a million people, why would he forget the person that's been through the whole process with him
@@andremotivation6561 fax
IF HE DID THIS MOVIE WOULDNT EXIST
@@andremotivation6561She actually shows that she was prepared by actually acting out a total breakdown and then saying “that’s what authenticity gets you” at the end of it making it quite clear that she was acting and she had him convinced
it should’ve been called “TOXIC” this movie is the EPITOME of toxic 😂. it was really good tho , from the broaden vocabulary words in the dialogue to the acting .
People are flawed and imperfect with emotions and egos to deal with. Maybe the way they’re fighting has elements of toxicity but that’s something we all have to learn, I wouldn’t say they’re inherently toxic people at all though. They’re both trying to grow and learn and share their vision with the world, and both seem to be willing to grow. It can be so hard to step down from a fight and move to the loving part, I think they did an excellent job showcasing that!
@@rgessaman the relationship is not healthy, therefor its toxic

Booo
This movie was too real haha Also, I'm on Marie's side.
i dont agree with either tbh. Too toxic, not good for each other.
I’m leaning on Marie’s side bc it must feel so defeating to have someone continuously hold something over u regardless of ur efforts to do better. On top of that being their support system and not even get a thank u. Chile, I smelt the toxicity thru the screen.
I was on her side just because she’s played by Zendaya 👑

John David got the line “Outside your mind” from his Dad. Denzel says it in the same tone in Remember the Titans. Like father like son.😏
I came to the comments just to see if anyone else noticed that!! Haha

@@lifetofullest9380 Zendaya did great also.
The writing, cinematography, acting? Oscar worthy without a doubt
Too good for Oscars.
2 hours watching 2 rich, successful people arguing.... I mean the dialogue is excellent, so is the cinematography and the photography, and the music. But the story? You really think this is Oscar worthy?
@@AkADare-jc2dk I didn’t say anything about the story/ plot itself. But despite how simplistic it is I think it’s very good. I never watched Marriage Story but if it’s on the same lines as Malcolm and Marie, then yh I guess it is Oscar worthy. Coz Marriage story got nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe.
@@elliceopare6673 Nope, definitely not. Marriage story and Malcolm and Marie couldn't be more different.

Never seen a beardless John David Washington before...
john david sounds just like his dad ....also liked hin in the tent ..
He did good in this
This movie was so captivating. Oh my goodness my eyes were glued to every single shot. As in, the whole movie was a such a layer of peeled onions. You don't get to the truth of why she's upset until the VERY end of the movie and every new layer of information they give shocks me and switches the power balance. One time Malcom's on top...then it's Marie and vice versa. The power balances go up and down so much. Whenever a new layer is peeled open it completely changes the conversation and the way I think. The entire time, I was trying to process and understand what was going on. In the beginning it was a bit difficult to understand but as we go in further, you start to see the truth. Watching the film for the second time, while knowing what the truth is will be something I look forward to doing. This would be such a wonderful film to critically analyze and break apart, then digest.
I wish I could watch this movie all over again for the first time it’s so good
God saaaame
Opinion
The movie was intense, but i couldn’t look away. I didn’t choose sides because I could tell these were issues bubbling up. I frowned and wanted to cry at something Malcolm said to Marie, but there were also times I was upset on behalf of Malcolm in things Marie did. I understood the mindset in a way of both and wanted a resolution, but understood that grievances needed to be aired out

Brilliant character piece. Captures conflict beautifully, wonderful job from John and Zendaya.
I love how John refers to Malcom’s character as “me”
Great movie, great performance by JDW and Zendaya. Amazing, doing a lot with almost nothing of the stereotypical things we see in American movies. JDW was great. The movie was different than some of the typical American movies, but those who watch European cinema are not surprised and love this type of movie: thought provoking, deep with a lot of different messages: I can see Mrs Pauletta Washington who had to sacrificed a promising career for her husband and family having this kind of conversation. I can Sara Jessica Parker who is said to have forgotten to thank her husband at an award show having that type of conversation. I understand why Sterling K Brown was pissed because they didn't give him enough time to thank his wife. The movie is based on a conversation that can actually take place in a couple, in a marriage. Frustration, feeling of being left behind. The best thing is Malcom finally said Sorry and thank you to Mary. JDW did an awesome job here. Give him more traditional romantic movie with a more seasoned actress.
THEY ARE INCREDIBLE IN THIS! CANT WAIT TO SEE IT.PERIOD.

I frikkin LOVED this. Especially Zendaya's facial expressions.. I'm gonna watch it again
WOW this was such an intense movie, but the acting, cinematography, and editing were absolutely amazing the final bedroom dialogue :0
Incredible performances from both of them
The way the nuances contained within their argument come to bear, alongside the compelling character motivations, made this such a powerful film. Then there's the excellent performances combined with such clever cinematography that revels in living and breathing these characters, but in the most theatrically engaging way when tied with that jazz soundtrack. If this doesn't win an Oscar...
This movie was amazing to watch. I am so proud of Zendaya's growth. They both did a wonderful job!
This film was so incredible. You hardly ever see people in films grapple with intense love and intense anger at the same time. It shows people how not to fight (ie in a way that escalates) but also that it's ok for some conflict to exist
