I Made a Tiny Ecosystem Out of an Abandoned Fish Tank (And Let It Grow)

2024 ж. 20 Мам.

Accidentally sparking a tiny ecosystem was not what I had in mind when I picked up an old, free fish tank. With a bit of restoration, I hoped to build a new home for the extra critters in my main aquarium, but nature quickly put a stop to my plans.
Watch as the tank develops the natural way; with no filter, and no co2 injection.

  • Interestingly, what I have experienced with my own ecosystem (which is inside an airlocked jar and is completely self-sufficient without me ever touching it, although to be fair everything in it was scooped up from a swampy pond, including the ground and the water, which was inspired by Jartopia, but anway, this means that all of the organisms living in it were already acclimatised to the surroundings and also pretty durable and adaptive since they lived in a shallow swampland pond, so not the most delicate pick to be fair) is that aquatic beetles are very good population control for these tiny crustaceans (as well as mayfly and stonefly nymphs, but they also can't maintain a stable population in a sealed ecosystem, for obvious reasons).
