WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?!⬇️
Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓 I’ve been into Korean music since 1998 when I was 15, and using “kpop stan” is more catchy (super cringe or not) than “person who’s listened to Korean music since 1998”, amirite or AMIRITE.😂
➡️ / ogkpopstan ⬅️
-$3-monthly “CAPTAIN” tier: access to all reactions/reviews to live performances and concerts, 4-6 new videos weekly, plus access to all of the content listed for the “CREW” tier (listed below).
-$1-monthly “CREW” tier: a “tip jar” for anyone who would like to show general support overall that’ll help with what I do on KZhead and Patreon as well.💜 This tier has access to all reactions/reviews to “watch parties” for shows (Stray Kids' Survival Show, Ateez's Fever Road/Salary Lupin, Kingdom Legendary War, Twice’s SIXTEEN, etc.), album listens, and videos that typically have technical issues when uploaded on KZhead.

XTRA 411-
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since. The genre, along with artists like Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Britney Spears, etc. then motivated me into becoming a hip-hop/pop dancer, which was a very active lifestyle for me literally throughout my whole 20s. (XTRA DANCE 411- I danced for, trained, and performed with 4 different dance teams. My first and main dance team who started my "dance life" was with Marvelous Motion (who later became IaMmE, America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 Champions). A lot of my dance training came from Di "Moon" Zhang, Brandon "747" Harrell, Emilio Dosal, SOREAL, and from attending many dance classes in Houston and L.A. (from amazing local talent to widely-known talents such as Parris Goebel, Keone Madrid, Kyle Hanagami, Lando Wilkins, Mister Wiggles, Rino Nakasone)
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music and dance around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis, seizures, and a heart murmur. I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with Kpop or dance. Luckily, I'm in remission now. That doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups if I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible. I am also not capable of being an active dancer like I used to be due to my chronic illnesses, but I’m still a dancer in my mind, heart, and soul.
ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon and also using what I’ve learned from my dance years to give credit where it’s due!
💜

  • “Naughty is one of the best choreography I’ve seen in kpop industry” Yes! I couldn’t agree more!

    • So underrated too! The fact that Naughty didn’t get an award for choreography is ridiculous to me.

    • @@nikegrrl5105 so true, and the views. Seriously the choreographers just got this one perfect , and the artists where up to the task. How could it NOT win award for choreo is beyond me. Also, anybody who watches Kpop and like dances how can you not watch this one ... 15m views... seriously! Just the other day somebody saying some choreo by (insert your fav 4th gen girlgroup here) was very hard. Im sorry but NO. Very few Girlgroup choreos are VERY HARD. THIS one probably on the top.

  • Not to mention that Seulgi is significantly bigger than Irene. She's taller and has longer limbs, this precision of theirs just gets better the more you think about it.

  • ASeul subunit was a cultural reset. The discography. The choreography. And they had the chemistry that was honed in from pre-debut times. If they ever make a comeback as a subunit, blessed are us to be alive in the same timeline 🤣😂

    • not really, maybe some details yes have to be reminded but the hard parts (like the chorus) are more stucked to the muscle memory since it take longer to practice as well, i learned the coreography last year and since then i haven't practice it again but i still remember every bit of it

  • This just proves how amazing they both are. I think Irene's look in this video is just the best in my mind. Nothing snazzy, just some sweats and working hard ( no Wendy to distract me either). I saw a picture of one of them doing the point of view tutting shot in practice. It looked like the one with the camera was maybe the choreographer and she was holding the camera in her mouth to get the shot!

  • Something I really like about this choreo is that Seulgi and Irene are allowed to just go HAM. They can show the Full extent of their skill and talent. I feel like group dances are usually made with the audience in mind, like "can people learn this dance? Let's make sure it's easy enough to pick up". But here S & I were just allowed to cut loose! Not many people are going to learn or master this dance, but i actually Like it. It's cool to see exactly how skilled and talented k-pop stars actually are, and i wish more of the top dancers would do this sort of thing. It reminds me a little of After School, where they would learn all kinds of new dances for each comeback, including tap- and pole dancing.

  • I’ve noticed that as far as reactions only dancers really give Naughty choreography it’s just due. Dancers know how difficult those moves are to execute, not to mention being perfectly in sync to another person/group, mirroring their moves, hitting the angles to the beat, giving face making it look effortless, and if that wasn’t enough they have to sing on top of all that?! Thank you for recognizing the talent and effort Irene, Seulgi, the choreographers, and dancers put into this. Such an in depth and informative reaction. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

  • You were talking about muscle memory. In this video Irene and Seulgi are doing something VERY COMPLICATED and fast. As far as muscle memory for most humans, I think you nailed it. You can walk without thinking about it after a couple of years of life (or less; took me until I was fifteen months old to start walking, took my boys about the same time but took my sister only nine months and my daughter took only about ten months). I had heard that this dance and tutting choreo took these two ladies something like five months to get it down pat. PROFESSIONAL, NON-STOP practice, that's all I can say. I have only the highest respect and admiration for these two, ESPECIALLY after this. You are right, this is like nothing I had ever seen before, absolutely unique. It has thrown a lot of dancers and even some tutting masters because these two were tutting AND dancing in the same performance!

I've seen a few live concert videos of them doing this and it's crazy how they can probably do this at will which just goes to show the dedication they've always had to their craft. Also, I'm going to credit ChungHa for this because that was the first I'd heard this but last year I recall you shouted out the backup dancers and in this one you shouted out the dancers so I'm hoping that's some new industry standard to recognize everyone on the stage as more of an equal and integral part (not to offend anyone whose ever gone by backup dancer). I'm sure ChungHa wasn't the first but it's the first for me so Queen gets credit.
