Minecraft speedrunner Doog came incredibly close to beating the Minecraft world record on December 12. This is the story of his run, and what made it so special. Important note: this run isn't currently second place, it just was at the time it was set.

  • something interesting about this run that I feel goes understated is just how similar it is to NoFears. They both use a completable ruined portal, which is quite rare, and both use a nether home portal, which is another incredibly rare thing to see. if you put the runs side by side, they stand almost identical right up until the end fight.

  • 9:32 - that counting is a bit off. Is not a 1/3 in chance, but a 0.1+0.4+2.6+11.1+34.1=49% chances of needing 10 or less eyes of ender. Not ideal, but better than 1 in 3. edit: nope, I'm wrong, the graph already is cumulative

    • That's literally not how it works. The y-axis of this graph measures the odds of 10 eyes being enough (not the odds of exactly 10 eyes being needed) and already includes the probability of 9 eyes being enough, 8 eyes being enough etc. If it worked like you said, you'd end up with a 120% likelihood of 11 eyes being enough and 220% likelihood that 12 eyes is enough.

  • Surely you guys have more than one Minecraft map to show as background footage? The rivers with the boats is cool and all but I think we have seen enough of it.. Appreciate the breakdowns of these runs. I wouldn't follow the Minecraft speedrunning scene if it wasn't for these videos.

    • The leaderboard mods take a while to verify runs. Some people say they take too long, but without them, we'd have a leaderboard made of fakes and frauds. So we have to be grateful.

    • since it was o56 buried, doogile likely can’t make it to 99 even with really good pearls and if you go to 95 he would have had to contend with 5 bedding a slightly offset dragon perfectly reasonable decision not to go for it
