Restoration of my previous car, Avus Blue 09/99 E39 M5.
Everything suspension and subframe was changed. Every hose, gasket, o ring, cooling etc, had an overhaul. Everything but paint was touched more or less
Some tips for restoring these:
-For vanos to be quiet you need to rebuild it entirely, including the diaphragm springs and the gears(which means you need to re-time the engine)
-Liqui moly 10w60 is more quiet in terms of vanos than Castrols 10w60
-Timing chain tensioners are a wear item and will prolong the life of your chain guides as well.
-You can adjust the lash in the steering gear box slightly for more feel and less slack in the middle. A solid E34 steering guibo helps too
-The rear subframe has a diff mount in the front that can break off. Reinforce it before it does if youre clutch dumping and driving like a maniac
-Prefacelift headlights are infinitely easier to restore than the "angel eyes" version
-You can use E38 illuminated interior doorhandles for a bit more ambient lighting
-When they sit they can develop a lifter tick. 5-10mins of driving cures this
-They run better on premium gas(duh).
-Cam sensors are much easier to change with the intake plenum removed
-You can easily code/program the dme for higher redline, less/more assist in sport/comfort and a ton of other things
-Buy extra o rings for when changing the thermostat and use lube when installing them. Theyre very easy to pinch
-Alot of parts you can buy OEM and get the exact same part as OE but without the bmw logo. Do your research.
-Theres a great group on facebook "E39 M5 owners group" with alot of skilled diy'ers madly dedicated to this car
They drive and accelerate wildy differently depending on maintenance and mods Drive 2 or 3 before you buy one if you can
-They are about as reliable as your maintenance skills goes
-People that say a 540i is nearly as fast hasnt driven a well sorted M5. Its a different car
Especially in that blue color this is peak BMW for me. I was a child like 7 years old when they came out. The father of a kid in my class worked in a high position at BMW. This family lived near by my grandmother so i often saw their property. His faster had the 530D Touring in that exact color and once i saw it in the morning when going to school, driving thru sick foggy weather. The xeon lights were space age at that time. I was totally in love with that car. Once i could sit inside while we drove to the birthday party off the kid. I was so happy and never said a word about it. :D And of course the 4 exhaust pipes totally blew my mind as a kid! :D Also his father often tested new vehicles for BMW. So once i saw the Z8 in his yard. I never saw something like this before. I liked it but somehow i thought it looked strange. Now as im grown i cant get my eyes off the Z8.
Great story. I remember hearing an m5 not knowing what is was at the time and wondering how any bmw could sound like a muscle car😅
And yes.. Blue is the fastest color. I totally agree
pure love.
That 507 is a timeless classic imo
Beautiful car
Bro this was one of the best clips I have seen on this car. I bought a 2000 us spec one couple of months back.
Sorry forgot to ask, how much did this entire project, without purchase price of the car, cost you? Thanks.
Enjoy it. Its the best car ever made imo. Check the description for a few tips on your new car. And thanks for the kind words
Love it, awesome work done!
Thank you.

Can I bring my m5 e39 to you??🙄🙄, awesome work man I need a mechanic like you!
Thank you. Let me know if you have any questions about them. Its the car i know the best perhaps lol
@ Juhls Garage Do you have the partsnumber of the X5 bushings for the A-arms? Thx
Febest BMAB-002 and BMAB-011 Its possible that i remember incorrectly that theyre from an x5 but theres a dew threads on it online, though har to find.
Amazing, also your nerves and patience:) What did you use to clean underbody protection? Did its job though:)
Thank you. I used kitchen sponges and all purpose cleaner. And some spatulas for the thick dirt. Im gonna upload a video on it for my e46 if you want to see more details:) will be a little while though.
@@OEMplusRESTO aha, i thought it was worse. We use some kind of wax, very penetrable, not sure of product name.
@@kwaki82 you use a wax to clean it off? Nice. Would love to know its name so i can google it and see if its something i should try. You can clean the underside with a plethora of products. I just use the cheapest option really. But very time consuming though
@@OEMplusRESTO no, no ww use it for protection, so i was surprised it went off so easy. (thought yours was waxed, as that is "the best protection") Aaah just remembered protec. is called Krown oil!
@@kwaki82 ah ok. Now i see. On this car there was a heavy layer of that tar/wax like stuff too. Thats why i cleaned it off. I dont like it. Every little task you perform you get super dirty because of that wax like substance endinn up on you, the tools, the floor. Everywhere
You lost interest in E39 M5? I don't understand that, but it's just me.😀 Great restoration by the way.😀
Thank you:) i just kindda wanted to try something else. Ik hindsight i probabæy shouldnt have sold it
Flotte arbjed
You’re allowed to delete the mufflers in Denmark? I’m surprised!
To be honest im not sure. It did fail mot because the resonators were non E compliant. The inspector didnt care for the removal of mufflers though. He said as long as it the noise is not too much it doesnt matter. What did matter though was the resonators were not approved. They were just some run of the mill magnaflows
