Don't listen to these idiot keyboard critics that have nothing better to do with their time than to pretend your video is the only source of information on the internet. Your video gave a majority of the info I needed and I was able to search for answers to the other questions I had. I appreciate you making this video, brother. Helped a ton.

I need to check your other videos because I want to change a single duplex outlet into a dual duplex out and it is not the last box in the circuit so I need to see how to continue to the other downstream outlets.

    • You would need to shut off the circuit, remove the old box & undo all the wiring. Then get yourself a new 2 gang remodel box, cut out the old hole to the new dimensions of the 2 gang box. You would add “pigtails” to both new receptacle. Which is a 6-8” single black, white & ground to each receptacle. Then you hook up all the blacks together, all the whites together & all the grounds together with the proper wire nuts. Hope that makes sense. You gave me a video idea. If I come across this, I will make a video!

  • Good job overall, but I'd like to make a few points/suggestions. On the cut in box, those are integral clamps and meant to hold the NM cable (Romex) in the box. You aren't supposed to rip them off. Also, I find it easier to strip the wires before I put them into the box so I use an NM Cable stripper that strips 12-2 and 14-2.

  • I have an exact situation as your segment is showing except the socket I would be attaching to is on the other side of a stud. How would you handle that? Hoping to be able to do this without cutting into sheet rock. Appreciate ideas.

    @juniorvanderwoude2645@juniorvanderwoude26455 ай бұрын
    • Off the top of my head, there are two options I can think of. One would be that you cut the sheet rock in order to drill a hole through the stud so that you can pull your wires The other option I’m thinking of is running up into the attic and over the stud and come back down to tap into the existing receptacle. Hope this helps.

  • Can I safely add an outlet from an ungrounded gfci plug? Would I follow these same steps but without the ground wire?

    @mzepeda93@mzepeda93 Жыл бұрын
    • Yes that will work, only if you connect the new outlet to the “load” side of the GFCI. Adding a GFCI takes care of the ungrounded problem. So if there is a ground fault, the gfci & any other outlets being fed by it on the “load” side will be protected by the GFCI & “grounded”.

It shows 3 wires, including the pigtail wire, twisted together in one wire nut, you should have a total of 4 wires twisted together, otherwise there would be no need for a pigtail. If you minus the pigtail in your drawing you would now only have 2 wires, one would go on either side of the outlet, so you would not need the pigtail.

    @dougwhiting6623@dougwhiting662326 күн бұрын
  • That diagram is inaccurate. You are connecting three hots, whites, and ground; not two. There are two existing romax coming in, not one. You are adding a third. And its very difficult if not impossible to see in that in the video, too fast and one of your existing black lines is caked over and looks white. Very hard to follow what you are doing.
