Our 190E DTM Tribute Gets a Widebody, Cage, & Throwback Livery +First Start Up!?

►A race car’s wild flares, wings, and splitters are just as memorable as the sounds they make and how they drive. Our Golden Era Project needed to emulate those late-90s DTM cars as best as possible, and there was no better way to do that than with a period-correct widebody kit replicating the original championship-winning Mercedes 190E. However, a three-month-long ordeal bringing over the body kit from Europe has put the team on the back foot as they scramble to get the 190E 2.0-16 ready for Gridlife Circuit Legends.
Following its successful public unveiling at Gridlife Circuit Legends, the Golden Era Project still needed enormous work. The rolling shell was devoid of fluids, wiring, and drivetrain, so the team had their work cut out for them. Upon arriving home at FCP Euro HQ, the systematic work began to bring the 190E 2.0-16 to life.
Engine prep begins with a visit from Schaeffler and a haul of fresh ignition components and ancillaries before the transmission is bolted to it for the final time. At the same time, the shell is fitted with its fuel system, brake lines, and wiring, finalizing it for its mating with the drivetrain. After nearly a year, the first fire-up is tantalizingly close. Watch along as our 190E finally gets its heart and soul right here on the Golden Era Project.

  • Months waiting on a custom wiring harness for the pinout to be incorrect, ouch. I know there were plenty of choice words said off camera.

  • Their is something about a small and square 2 or 4 door that looks beautiful once you give it race car style appearance mods. When these 190s and M3's get lowered with a front splitter, side skirts, and a wing they transform so much. This video called it the DTM look and I'm cool with that name. Even just a lowering kit is fine wine on 90' to early 00's boxy sedans. I am so happy than the square boxy style is starting to come back today. The new Lexus GX went box on the new model and it looks like the beauty from early 2000's.

  • The silver 190 dtm cars bodykit was so sick. The way the front widebody fenders flow together with the front splitter is amazing. Its similar to how the widebody hellcat and demons look and flow with there front. Of course the dtm is way better though lol

  • You don't realize how small that car actually is until you see a dude pushing it around like that. I mean, it doesn't have an engine in it, so it's quite light, but just the size comparison between the paint and body shop dude and the car itself really demonstrates how teeny the car actually is. I've driven one of the C-series cars that came right after this generation and it was also much smaller than you'd expect. Mercedes really did an impeccable job of making such a small car give off big car energy.

  • I daily a CLA45 with that engine. Major compromise is the thing doesn’t rev, which for me is the opposite of what you want in a race car. If you find a way to spin it to 8k I’m interested,

  • Is this the Polish body kit? the rotiforms look nice, but the OZ's are the shiznitz, so fire. Congrats on the result, the interior looks racecar but really tasteful and that engine looks right at home, you guys killed it.
