The design of the year, the brand and those instructions look modern, mmmmm
As soon as I saw that logo, I said "This is not from 1891." A quick Internet search shows that that branding was on a pan made by the Wager company in 1991, to commemorate the centennial of the founding of the Wagner Cast Iron company. Still, after this restoration, I don't doubt someone will still be able to use it when it IS 130 years old.
Exactly - I have 2 similliar pans - without ribs on cooking area - plain flat - perfect for eggs on bacon - these were bought in early 1990s - still using them after almost 30 years. BTW - I was really sad to find out that Wagner is out of business.
The font Aachen was designed in 1969. That was my first clue. Nothing about it looks 130 years old.
I heard that if it is marked made in the USA it's indicative of the 1950's. But hey what do I know. Beautifully done, love cooking on cast iron.
Also, nobody used the phrase, "MADE IN U.S.A." in 1891.

Oh my god, an outdoor cooking video too. I'm in love.
That frying pan is nice but, it wasn't made in 1891. Country of Origin wasn't required until after 1960. This is a reproduction made around the 1990's. Nice pan none-the-less. An 1890's pan would also have a "gate mark" on the cast iron, which were common until the early 20th century.
I don't contest your facts, with exception to the country of origin statement. While that may be true that it wasn't "required" that doesn't mean nobody posted a country of origin prior to 1960. I have a pannocake pan from 1941 with country of origin inscribed (also year of manufacture). For that matter, I also have a Day grandfather clock from circa 1560, with country of origin posted. There are other examples, but none on hand.
You are correct. This was an anniversary edition.

It came out absolutely gorgeous! Just a small thing to note- 1891 was just the name of the product line. Wagner only started producing those particular pans in 1991 as kind of a centennial thing. Still no spring chicken, but it's younger than I am. XD

Ruins any value and collectability with certain things such as cast iron and vintage axe heads.
That pan isn't 130 years old its actually from the 90's these particular ones started selling in 1991 so 30 years is more like it
I think what he meant was that the pan would look good for it's age only if it were 130 years old so he was being facetious
Yeah, the guy who wrote the letter got it wrong. 1891 is part of the brand name, not a date of manufacture.
I actually didn't know that and I think the channel didn't either
I have 4 of these 1891 Wagner Pans + 2 pots. Received as a wedding gifts 1992. Outlasted the marriage. No doubt will outlast me.
That would be correct. It's a newer pan. I have a few Wagners from the 1920s to the early 1960s. Different handle design and smoother surface. And no the rough surface isn't from rust pitting but not polishing pan after releasing from sand mold.

You can buy a set of cloth handle covers, so you can grab the cast iron skillet without burning your hands. My cast iron came preseasoned and the instructions on care said not to clean with soap, because it'll strip that seasoning. Just scrub with hot water and a nylon brush. Then place upside down in the oven at 500°F for an hour to dry. The steak you made looked delicious! It made me hungry for one.
