The Avs have the highest ceiling of any team in the league. They also have one of the lowest floors of any team in the playoffs. Biggest question is which team shows up.

jets have the advantage with goaltending, rolling 4 lines and defence. georgiev in net for COL has been suspect. sucks that these 2 teams have to play each other in the 1st round. taking jets in 6 games.
Jets have zero advantage in anything 😂 goaltending solves nothing, jets have horrible defence and mediocre attack that relies on over the hill shefe and ehlers. Colorado could skate circles around that joke team

funny how the Jets beat them 7-0 to seal home ice… a “must win” in the heart of the “stretch” and out scored them 17-4 across the season… gave up the fewest goals and destroyed the playoff teams down the stretch. i think they even had best record against top ten teams i. the league….

@@-gumby-3381 Oilers lost 4 of their last 5 games, with 2 of those being against the lowly Coyotes, and finished the season only 5 points ahead of the Kings. The Jets however finished the season with an 8 game winning streak including back to back shutouts against divisional rivals and an absolute clobbering of the upcoming playoff matchup. The Kings also have won a game against the Oilers this season, which cannot be said of the Avs over Winnipeg. If momentum means anything the Jets are a lock. If goaltending is the matchup the Jets are a lock. If the season series means anything the Jets are a lock. The Oilers over the kings seems like a pretty good wager, but Jets over the Avs is about as sure a thing as any 2 over 3 matchup could be.
Outside of the Battle for Florida, this is probably going to be the best series of them all. I have the Jets winning in 6 games.

I think the great advantage of the Jets is their physical potential, overall they have got bigger bodies, being able to bully the Avs as the series will go on.
Surprised there isn’t a bigger narrative about the jets being a regular season team. Much like the oilers no matter how good they are in the regular season, Winnipeg’s goaltending and goal scoring just evaporate in April. Hellebuyck is the best regular season goalie in the league, needs to prove he isn’t just that.
As an Avs fan, Georgiev vs Hellebuyck. That's all I gotta say. Not feeling confident about this one.

Big thing with Ehlers is virtually all his scoring is even strength on the 2nd line, he's literally top 30 in even strength points, adding Tof and Mon to the 2nd. Other game changer is Jets ability to break up the Colorado rush and cause odd man breaks the other way, something I saw common in their matchup.

I don't mind the Jets as an Avs fan. Respect. I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Avs win if Bednar starts Goergiev. Annunen is the better goalie and should face Hellebuyck.
I like both teams. Might root for one of these two get out of the rest. Mackinnon is a performer, but the Jets have pieces and I trust Hellebuyck over Georgiev. Jets in 6.

My Stanley Cup before the season was Colorado vs. Carolina. Worried about Colorado, especially in net.
I'm from Winnipeg so I'm biased to the Jets, but the Avs are my second favourite team, so I'm happy with either team winning.
The fact that everyone has completely forgotten how good the Avs can be at the top of their game and just assume the Jets roll easily is why im picking the Avs. Ive watched enough playoff hockey to know that betting against teams with championship experience and stars the caliber of Mackinnon and Makar is a bad idea.
jets have playoff experience in the core, including the big run in 17/18 they have a few guys with cup rings. and the avs are not the avs team that won the cup. nowhere near as deep. it’ll be close.
While I completely agree, Georgiev sucks. He is among the worst in the league if you scroll through the goalie numbers (and I've watched every Col game. He isn't average, he sucks as an NHL goalie this year). They will not win the cup with him, and Sakic and MacFarland have this strange blind spot with goalies so unless Annunen can steal the job (as a rookie......) they're screwed. Breaks my heart.

Easy to favor the Jets here. The Avs have firepower but Georgiev's shaky goaltending is a major problem.
Looking forward to seeing Jets in Round 2 (provided Stars can get over VGK). Not because it would be easy series but because I have always felt like Jets were our spiritual brothers with depth this season. If Jets get over on the Stars in Round 2 would have no problem going all in for them.

I think the Jets have shown that they are capable of shutting down Colorado's offense, if the Jets can stick to their structure. The big question will be which version of Georgiev shows up for the playoffs. I think that Colorado is a more popular team than Winnipeg which is skewing the votes, despite all the stats pointing to Winnipeg. When you look at play during the last month, the Jets have obviously been the better team; will that momentum carry over into the post season?
Shannon I think your best chance for a Canadian team to win the Cup is with the Jets! You all are way overdue
This won't be two offensive teams trading goals in a high scoring, evenly matched series, it will be the Jets scoring an average of 3 per game against a mediocre defence and a starting goalie who might as well be a cardboard cutout and the Avs struggling to get anything by the Jets' tenacious D and dynamic duo of Hellebuyck and Brossoit. Unless the Jets' D break down at the same time their offence has a slump the Avs are outmatched, they'll need 4+ goals a game just to keep up and that's laughable. The only real area the Avs match up is in faceoffs, Lowry vs McKinnon.
I would have preferred Edmonton in the 1st Round, but the Oilers could get Vancouver in Round 2 with the winner facing the Jets in the Western Finals. Then the Leafs have to get into the Finals. Jets vs Leafs in the Cup, Jets win in 7. That would be sweet, but I'll cheer for the Canucks or Oilers if they get in too. I bet on the Oilers winning the Cup in the preseason but I'll happily take the loss if the Jets or Canucks beat them.

Great preview as always! If it wasn't for the inconsistency in net and the absolute bipolar play by the rest of the team I would say Avs no problem. While I love Landeskog I have been saying all year they should have just made MacKinnon captain. There is such a lack of discipline when it comes to team motivation...

Man, first time in years my confidence in round 1 is low. This Avs team has been so emotional this season, need a good start to build momentum. If they do, cup is absolutely possible. Bad start is scary. In Nate we trust 👑
The only reason it's been a challenge for Nichuskin to stay in the lineup is he NHLPA player assistance program, we was never injured (at least for more than a game or two) and he's rehabbed, he's not injury proned

I think its Avs in 6 but if it goes to 7 it's Jets. If Avs don't come out with a chip on the shoulder from the last three games and the season series against the Jets and steal one of the first two games I don't think they take the series. I get the game against the Oilers 'didn't matter' but you know Mackinnon and his mindset took that as a personal shot. They told Bednar they didn't want to rest and came to play. The fact that they win feels tainted since the other side were all resting. I feel like the Avs are going to want to make an emphatic statement in game 1 or 2 that this is the playoffs and they came to win

It's gonna come down to goalies and defense this series. Avs can play defense. They just don't a lot of the time. Georgie can be a good goalie. He showed that last season and has had some really good games this season. We just have zero clue which Avs team is going to show up.

I completely agree, but since the only spot they didn't address at the deadline was goaltending (smh) if Annunen as a rookie can't do the pressure cooker environment, they have no backbone in net. It's so frustrating to see a great team have a house of cards style design with an awful starter and a very promising but unseasoned rookie backup.....and then no-one as a third option.
Think the Jets showed they can slow down the AVs and our Ace in the hole is ... Hellie. He saved us with almost 50 shot night and we won. Theirs edge and the winners!

Avs fan here, Jets have a great team and it is one of those series that it will come down to who wants it more. I know, very cliche to say that. If Georgiev gets it together and Avs tap into that playoff gear that has taken them all the way two years ago, led by Mackinnon, it will be Avs in 7.

Crazy how much negativity there is around the avs in the comments. I dont know how the series goes. The avs ceiling is much higher than the jets, but the floor is lower. I think the two teams both flex on their strengths and the avs average 3.5 goals a game. On the weak side of both teams do the jets average more than that? Season series says yes, but i expect a better effort from colorado in the playoffs
