  • Ideal for a car rental company or vehicle collector, but impractical for day-to-day parking, especially during peak times. We've been involved in automated car parking since 2009, also proposing tower systems such as this. Traffic Engineers and town planners always object to the following: (1) Costly, (2) Limited to parking 20-30 cars per hour, per entrance, (3) Nominal reduction in space usage (conventional parking requires 28-40m2 per car, an automated tower requires 24-27m2 per car), (4) Only one car can be handled at once per entrance - like walking a class of schoolchildren across the road one at a time. At 128 cars per system the last person would effectively have to wait +-300 minutes/5 hours to get his car! We have since started the development of our own modular technology: requiring only 16-23m2 per car; including a vertical vehicle conveyor which allows multiple cars to be fed into/retrieved from the system at once; multiple vehicles can be handled simultaneously on the individual levels; a 120-130-car module can be emptied/filled in 25-35 minutes.

  • I just loved this but... What happens at the end of the day when everyone needs to get all the cars at the same time?

    • That and the car being washed before it is parked, so it's just exposed to the outside elements again whilst waiting on the driver to return, given the lot is still open air and not sealed.

    • +Taciano, they take a taxi, unless they want get home at 3AM. One car lift for all these cars is the system's downfall.

  • Kinda cool concept, but there’s some drawbacks. When parking my classic car, or sportscar or just a car that I take pride in maintaining and detailing, would I have to worry about oil and fluids dripping from cars above and what about salt, grime and water? In the wintertime, washing and parking a car immediately afterwards is not optimal, corrosion thrives and surface rust forms on brakes which are then applied to prevent cars from rolling. The washing machine, is it any good, or will it damage the paint? Whose fault is it if the washing machine breaks something on the car? Who will detach antennas or wipers before washing the cars? Will that person need access to the car to put the parts inside the car, and will I need to hide personal stuff? What if things are missing or stolen from the car, who is to blame? And lastly; logistics. As others have raised concerns about, what happens on a saturday afternoon right after all the stores have closed and everybody wants to pick up their cars at the same time? Is their some place you can wait, or do you have to stand outside in the rain? What happens if the lift system fails and I cant get to my car? Is there a loan car system? Other than these issues its a really nice concept, I guess it will be installed on every corner soon…

    • Actually if it ran at top safe speeds, this would be faster than finding a spot on your own. And it's easily scalable to transport 2 or 3 cars at a time and even easily triple capacity with little to no cosmetic changes or additional space.

    • Yes, like taking a class of schoolchildren across the road one at a time. Makes no sense. These systems end up becoming 'white elephants'. We've been in the automated car parking system since 2009, this type of technology has constantly been rejected by local authorities, traffic engineers and architects: the space savings are minimal and they're just too slow. We've since developed our own modular system which addresses all the shortfalls of existing systems.
