PTV Vissim: Automated Parking Simulation

This PTV Vissim simulation shows a fully automated multi-storey car park based on the multiparker car park in Istanbul, Turkey. It shows one of the 6 identical segments with 102 parking spaces each. The complete structure features a total of 612 parking spaces on 17 parking levels with a height of 38m.
Cars enter and exit through transfer areas. There are 2 transfer areas available per segment (on different levels) with a turntable each and secure passenger access. Drivers park their car in a transfer area on a pallet and then leave the car park. The system then automatically parks the car in the tower using the nearest available slot. As the driver returns to the car park, after personal identification the system fetches the car and provides it in the corresponding transfer area.
The simulation control is done through the VISSIM COM interface with extensive programming using Excel VBA (Visual Basic for Applications). The initial filling state of the car park is defined in a spreadsheet and can be changed easily. Evaluation variables and results are displayed in another Excel spreadsheet for a convenience.
COM-scripting vastly enhances PTV Vissim's field of applications as it provides a means of simulating special real- world situations that due to their specifications may not entirely be simulated directly inside PTV Vissim.
