On the Spot with Peterbilt 579 UltraLoft

Peterbilt's UltraLoft takes 579 to new heights. Peterbilt has unveiled a new 80-inch integral sleeper known as the UltraLoft, adding an array of features to the Model 579 that improve comfort for team drivers and enhance aerodynamics in the process.
“It has that distinctive Peterbilt style,” said Scott Newhouse, chief engineer, also referring to added storage, lower and upper bunk space, and the widest mattress in the industry. “The driver experience starts when you’re in the cab. It’s a big, open space with plenty of headroom.”

  • I’m up to almost 300,000 on a 579. These trucks have underdesigned steering gear so they constantly pull to the right with the crown in the road. It’s been in the shop many times for this. Full thrush alignment, different tires and even spacers under the suspension trying to fix this problem. A real pro finally pointed out to me that the steering box, pitman arm and tie rod is not big enough so the crown of the road puts too much pressure on these components. It’s a lease truck so can’t trade it in until 500k. I drive pissed off 11 hrs a day and can’t wait to get out of it. Getting strong hands though from steering left constantly on perfectly straight roads Grrrrrrr!!!

  • Say what you want about Volvo, but Swiss made, runs great, 9mpg, and the studio sleeper with dinette and 4 extra belted seats for passengers makes it very nice, and the closet behind the driver's seat is custom converted to a toilet shower combo from an RV company. That's how you make time, make money not stopping at rest areas, keep healthy not having to hold it for 200 miles, cook and eat your dinner right there at your own table, and easily have 3 or 4 drivers onboard with 6 seats. Take the family out to dinner or a trip to the beach. And a 2 seat motorcycle behind the cab. Oh, and that front visor that he's so proud of.... Volvo has had that design for years as standard equipment.....

  • i want a bunk that is placed length wise..not across the back. safer and more comfortable for stopping/starting. i have done measurements on volvos,kw's,and petes. it can indeed be done . the sleeper would feel huge with beds on 1 side, cabinets,fridge, Tv mount,and desk on the other. both bunks could still have a "night stand" plus there could be a window between the bunks for a driver to get a good angle view just by looking over his shoulder(if the bunks were mounted on the passenger side). base the bunk length at 80 inches and 99% of drivers would have plenty of leg room. this could really be done and most drivers would prefer this configuration after just 1 cross country run.

Then make the passenger wall a hanging closet with fridge and enough table top to run a little Foreman grill, microwave maybe a little toaster oven idk. It kills me seeing they keep making bunks bigger and bigger. Yet give you a bigger bed and little to no storage. Seems like a bigger bunk should be used to increase quality of life on the road and besides.. I don't mean to brag but I'm pretty good in bed, I hardly ever fall out anymore so I don't think I need a bigger one...

  • This truck is engineered to market to the mega fleets. With fuel economy design and cost effective construction and layout. It is obvious that the large carriers are the focus for Peterbilt to turn large profits. And the manufacturer probably gets some sort of government kickback for meeting or exceeding emission and environmental standards.

    @snowlauncher79@snowlauncher796 жыл бұрын

    @mrtruckingtaurus3940@mrtruckingtaurus39404 жыл бұрын
    • The reason no respect is given is that you constantly have truckers pulling out in front of you without regard for anyone else's safety, I can't tell you how many times I have seen a big rig slowly just pull out into on coming traffic and simply demand other vehicles stop or be killed by slamming into the side of it. I realize you have to wait longer for an opening in traffic when you have a slow large rig but you still have to wait, just pulling out in front of everyone and expecting everyone to stop or die isn't a plan that will endear you to other drivers.

    • @@chinabluewho Try helping truckers by slowing down and giving them a headlight flash when there’s enough clearance for them to pull into your lane. You might lose a few seconds, but you’ll be doing a favor for someone who has to drive for a living. Hardly anyone does this and truckers are eventually forced to make a space for themselves.

    • @@rareform6747 lmao kinda true.. one of the other trucks I was in. I built a platform to sit in the top bunk where the mattress went. It was just high enough that my fridge and microwave could open without hitting the bunk lip and I used the outside sides for storage. The platform was ratchet strapped in and the fridge and microwave was ratchet strapped to the platform. It worked

  • That refrigerator is way too small for me. You have it setup to where you really cant replace it with a bigger one due to the closet. That's my only gripe. What wasn't shown was the digital dashboard display. That is a nice option as well. Beautiful truck.

    • @@lindabingham394 old sleepers used to have doors with a step and handles to get out in case of emergency. I'd really like to see some fat old driver kick out one of those little windows, squeeze his fat ass out and fall eleven or twelve feet straight down. No, say that those windows weren't put there as emergency exits. Those windows were put there by some engineer that's never been in big truck much less had to try and sleep in one during the day.
