Pittsburgh Penguins vs New York Islanders 'Fight Night' (HD)

2011 ж. 12 Ақп.

There's old time hockey, and then there's a prison riot. Considering there were more players on the ice than on the benches by the end of the New York Islanders' 9-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins, this was as ugly a slugfest as the Montreal/Boston donnybrook earlier this week was gleeful.
According to the official box score, the teams combined for 346 penalty minutes; which was still off from the NHL record set by Ottawa and Philadelphia in March 2004 (419 PIM), but a noble effort nonetheless.
The aggression was a carryover from last week's 3-0 Isles' loss to the Penguins that saw goalie Brent Johnson send Rick DiPietro to injured reserve with a one-punch goalie fight and Max Talbot leave Blake Comeau with a concussion on what was called a blindside hit.
That was quite a night. As John Tavares said: "Hell of a game."

    • That's called team & teammates & being one standing up for your team against the bully regardless of which team in this game you love or hate I will give both teams that much. They especially the islanders actually showed for once they were a team & were teammates. Something they rarely do before let alone since this. It drives me nuts though that there's never the whole picture regarding both games that lead up to the first game two weeks early let alone this one. BTW I've always been a Brent Johnson Marc Andre Fleury & a penguins fan since I was born with skates already on & a hockey stick & goalie pads. The only thing I will say is what Gillies does to Tangredi in this game let alone standing in the door taunting Tangredi was wrong & why the gillies is a cowardly bully.

  • That's the one bad part of all the rule changes since the 80's. Back then, there would have been one huge bench clearer and then it would have settled down.

    @emt5330@emt53303 жыл бұрын
    • Bench clearers aren't good the problem is not the fighting the problem is the hypocrisy of the nhl. Brent Johnson didn't cheap shot anyone when he ko'd dipietro while most of the islanders in either or both of the games cheap shotted penguin players. Talbot's hit was high but not dirty unlike Martin's or gillies attempt at cheap shot punches from behind un unsuspecting players. Johnson didn't do anything in either game but the refs let the cowardly islanders at home just run wild. I mean hailey got in to what 3 fights then left one fight & immediately went & tried to start another one with the goalie brent johnson & gillies plows into Tangredi and then is allowed to stand in the door way yelling back at the player he just put head first into the glass almost for behind.

    • @@craighanson-rc1mdteams had been taking liberties with with isles and for example cooke was taking runs at isles goalies in previous games, the talbot hit and penguins laughing at the dipietro ko probably was the last straw. After this game isles won 4 of their next 5 games and teams weren't suddenly taking as many shots at more skilled players like Tavares or Bailey.

      @trsctr@trsctr2 ай бұрын
    • @@trsctr Bailey & martin were bullies but had no real talent just like matt rempe has no talent other then being tall long arm reach & willing to risk his face & teeth more then many. If you notice though Brent Johnson wasn't laughing he did his job & skated over to the bench waiting to be kicked if for no other reason then crossing the blue line. Actually I believe it was because of this that crossing the blue like became an automatic ejection for goalies. Brent Johnson didn't enjoy doing it & while fleury & letang are my three top favorite players even now it wasn't brents fault dipietro went down so fast. Dipietro took liberaty with cooke right or wrong high sticking him and then bit off more then he could handle especially as injury prone as he was. Brent could have just knocked him and let dipietro fall hard but he didn't it could have been much worse & that wouldn't have been on Johnson. If roles were reversed your isle would be laughing just like they tried to do then next game when chaos really was released & the refs even knowing what had happened last meeting let skaters just come & go even after being ejected like hailey & gillies.

Johnson is a big goalie & DiPietro is at least 3 inches shorter than him. Also, DiPietro is from NCAA. When did you see last time a goalie fight in NCAA? But I don't like 2 on 1 fights. It's not "tough" to double team the other guy.

  • The Islanders were angry that the Pens players were laughing at them the last game they played against them, and they did something about it. Charles Wang, the owner, was against fighting, so there was more pent up tension. I doubt they were laughing after this game. Fast forward to us knocking the Pens out of the playoffs last year, and being on the cusp of sweeping the Caps out of the playoffs this year.
