Pokémon Rumble Blast has a similar vittually unwinnable first stage battle against Zekrom, and another later on against Cobalion. The final boss also puts up a barrier when its HP reaches half that leaves it immune to attacks and gradually fully healed, that is removed after a cutscene. There’s almost certainly cheats that exist for that game, so perhaps that could be covered?

I fought the guardian in age of clamity both on demo and and main sence without playing botw I good at deflecting the Lazer an I forget if I did it on hard mode the first time I got the level without level grinding. Lol
I actually wasn't sure how to do the guardian initially, so i just hid out of it's range and used one of zelda's attacks that sends a bomb sentry and got the same result after a very long time

I saw a lot of Twitter clips of people who played the demo and managed to defeat the guardian.
My brother killed it somehow. He just kept hitting it with link's sword and dodging.
I myself reflected the beams, dodged, and used stasis to defeat it. (Also attacking of course)
Ridley can (sort of) be beaten in the beginning of Super Metroid with just your regular beam. Shoot him 100 times without your health going under 30, and he’ll drop the baby metroid and then pick it back up and fly away like normal. It’s much easier to do this after doing the reset glitch with the space-time beam, but seeing Ridley drop the baby metroid is just a small self imposed challenge at the beginning of the game.

@@DevilBlackDeath It'd be the same thing. Ridley, in the beginning of Super Metroid, doesn't register damage, just number of hits. So 100 hits with a super missile will be the same as 100 hits with the arm cannon.

Wait, you're telling me that the reason Bowser is "invincible" after using the Star Rod in the prologue fight is just that the game gave him +1 defense?
Hallway Bowser gets +3 defense when using the star rod. HOWEVER, this defense is unpiercable unlike anything else in the game. Meanwhile Super Bowser's star rod gives him infinite unpiercable defense. (This is the refight, not the glitch seen here. this fight is a bit different as you have seen.) Speedrunners just tend to beat hallway bowser so fast you never see this in action.
Bowser’s on a budget, he knows he’s in an rpg. How cost efficient of him to use equipment just right to make him impenetrable against low level mario.

I actually beat the guardian in AoC's demo, just because all the time I've put into regular BotW meant I saw a guardian charging me and immediately said "Alright, time to perfect deflect my way to victory."
That's EXACTLY how I felt! And what I did xD I actually beat it and went back to do it the 'intended' way lol

For the guardian, it’s definitely doable without overleveled characters. Link is able to stun the guardian a lot which makes it not that hard, so you can actually kill it without doing any of the mission, but it takes forever, even longer than if you did the mission normally
I fought it the first time I saw it. Took like half an hour considering how it took 2 attempts, but it gave the same result as in the video.

I managed to beat the guardian rather easily on my first attempt by reflecting lasers then attacking while it was stunned.
I can actually say that if you used impa with the fight and kept up her clones you can kill it pretty fast I always thought it to be a fun challenge to do to kill the guardian instead of doing everything else. made it so I didn't have to try and figure out zelda's moveset for that damn slate
it doesn't take THAT long, but it definitely is longer than doing it the intended way. still definitely fun though
There's an extremely low chance that Wally will defeat the Ralts he's supposed to catch at the beginning of RSE. If he does, the end of the cutscene outside of battle plays normally, and it actually saves a bit of time.
If you use emulation and a randomizer on the rom it can affect Wally's catching tutorial in hilarious ways if you chose to randomize the tutorial pokemon. Should he get KO'ed you're given the option of sending out another pokemon, of which Wally has none. Saying no ends the fight normally. Saying yes makes the game lose its mind and glitch out hard while attempting to unbreak itself.

I vaguely remember winning with Rattata being possible, I'm even confident I done it once after a ridiculous amount of tries but that was forever ago. To even have a chance you have to be suicidal getting close enough to the other pokemon to kill steal while the stronger ones do most of the damage (because if you don't defeat them you don't get timers) whilst not being hit by anything. The stronger pokemon can then be taken out by hitting them again the walls which seems to do a percentage as the stronger the pokemon the more damage they take from it.
i once reached the final 3 eeveelutions, and knocked one out before getting beaten @.@

I heard that crocomire’s tongue had to animated separately and the easiest way to do that was just make it a different enemy and attach it to crocomire. They gave it a ridiculous amount of health so that no one would destroy it on a normal playthrough

I remember when I was much younger, I would always try to beat the unbeatable heavy lobster fight. I would always get so close to the point where I eventually made it my life goal to beat it for about two years straight. Ahh…I miss the good days.

From what I remember, it's possible to damage Ridley enough to make him drop the Metroid Canister, only for him to grab it before Samus can, and escapes the Facility.
You can do it with just the Beam, too.
The one thing you can't ever dream of beating is that sick bass line in the Zacian/Zamazenta theme.
3:00 You can actually defeat the Guardian without needing to revisit the level. Just like in BOTW, Link's shield can parry guardian beams without penalty, and regular attacks, while weak, still do damage.

@@AshenDust_ Well yeah but normally I go in expecting nothing so to me it looked kind of intimidating for a first boss. Although Kraid gets me on terms of intimidation, but I think Ridley's is just cool-looking. It's just me though.
When I played Age of Calamity, I actually beat the Guardian mission by defeating it in battle, rather than doing the mission objectives. It's doable on your first playthrough without overpowering your characters. The Ridley intro fight takes 100 hits from any weapon, or ends when Samus' energy drops below 30. It's a bit similar to how the Blind fight in Link to the Past requires 9 hits from any effective weapon, instead of respecting weapon damage values. Your fighter's sword is as effective as the golden sword, ignoring the shorter length.
The objective in stage 2 in Age of Calamity is defeating the guardian (despite the game yelling at you to not engage), and the mission to go around activating idle guardians merely reduces its HP to something more manageable for casual play. If you do fight the guardian straight away though, after a bit it'll start trying to ignore you so it can progress the story. With usage of the elemental rods (particularly Fire Rod on nearby grass) for free stuns and Impa's overpowered clones, it'll be way faster to beat the stage than doing the intended activating idle ones to shoot it (on low difficulties, anyway). Speedrunners have done this since day 1. I even remember insisting on beating the guardian myself in the demo, before the point I was expected to unlock Zelda.

It would’ve been kind of cool if there was a secret boss you could fight later on if you managed to defeat Heavy Lobster the first time. Also how am I STILL learning new things about SM to this day? I had no idea that you could destroy Crocomires tongue. BTW Ridley CAN sort of be defeated. If you shoot him 100 times he’ll drop the Baby Metroid but then quickly pick it back up and flee. Also Ridley in that fight is designed to take 1 damage from ANYTHING you hit him with (yes even the Hyper Beam) so you still would’ve needed 100 Super Missles to win.
Ha I’m the opposite. I knew about the Crocomire tongue thing, but I didn’t know about the hundred hits Ridley scripted sequence. I figured they programmed something if you hurt Ridley enough, but I didn’t know what. Thank you.

Considering that heavy lobster has its parts blasted off the ship anyway when the engines ignite, it's safe to assume it was destroyed anyway and they just had a second one. Or repaired it, which means they could have repaired the defeated one.
I did the Ridley thing in a few no-damage speedrun attempts. I think the thing being showcased here is the lack of HP Ridley seems subject to. It has to be 100 hits. From anything. The Crocomire thing was someone being really curious. In the data it is separate from the Crocomire body and has 65535 HP or something crazy like that. The body is pushed back by damaging the tongue and falls in the lava when it's fully on the bridge. If the tongue is completely defeated the body just goes back into the lava. If played right you CAN defeat it without powerbombs, it just takes forever as even a charged ice-wave-plasma beam does 450 dmg. Power bombs are way faster since they ignore the body's "protection".

Imagine if devs put in specific lines of code for if this stuff happened. Like if they had the bosses speak specific things to the player if they were defeated.
Some games actually had the devs do exactly that. Tales of Destiny (PS1 version) had a hopeless boss fight in Leon Magnus. You can't beat him since his stats are OP for that part of the game. but it is possible to defeat him. Doing so nets you a scene of Rutee mocking him followed by Stahn, Rutee, and Mary taking their place as an infamous group of lens hunters. It's also a non-standard game over. The fight against Squall (Leon) Leonheart in KH1 is supposed to be hopeless, but you can beat him. If you do, you get a neat item later on, though the scene after the fight is more or less the same. Heishin in YuGiOh Forbidden Memories is also unwinnable. His deck is an endgame type with 3k beaters while you're still relying on small fusions of 2000-2100 ATK. He can be beaten, however, but he just rematches you again and again and again until you finally lose to him. He has a quote for when you best him then: "Not bad, boy. But you're wrong if you think I'm beaten!"

There is a kind of similar case in Terraria where there is the an enemy called the Dungeon Guardian that is designed to always kill the player if they try to enter the dungeon without beating the early game boss Skeletron. This Dungeon Guardian enemy has 9999 health and 9999 defense which effectively makes any and all attacks deal 1 damage, and just for good measure the boss does 1000 damage which _usually_ kills you in one hit. This enemy moves insanely fast and is always locked on to the player no matter where they go. If you manage to survive and beat it though, you are rewarded with an exclusive pet that isn't available anywhere else in the game.

I would love to see more of this kind of thing. I’ve always wondered what would happen if you were able to do this. Like in Pokémon, the fights that are “played” by the computer are more like a stage and not a real battle but weird things can still happen. 2 examples, when starting a game it’s possible in Ruby and Sapphire, it’s possible for the dog Pokémon attacking the Professor to be shiny or in Red/Blue the old drunk man blocking the road near the start can fail to catch the Weedle.
That happened to me more than once. The guy failing go catch the pokemon. And he has a special dialogue for that. It says something like "Ohh, i missed it, well, anyways that's the general idea of how's is done. It's easier if you weaken the pokemon first" or something to that effect.
@@floorpanel8749, you are correct. The over world sprite will never be shiny but after selecting your starter and getting into the fight, it is possible.

Another thing about the zigzagoon in ruby or sapphire is that it is possible for you to K O it and nothing happens and the story is normal
Kinda sad that Golden Sun wasn't in here. Played it a ton as a kid, and it's always the first game I think of in regards to "early unwinnable fights." You fight against the main antagonists of the game early on, and are meant to lose against them. But if you grind against normal enemies enough, they can be beaten legitimately. The game just continues on as if you lost though lol
Saturos and Mernardi? I think I tried this using a gameshark back with a Gameboy advance SP; and I concur - defeating them makes no notable difference to the game sequence.
I LOVED the original Golden Sun as a kid. Such fun and epic boss fights!! I loved the vivid pixel art of all the sprites too, of the enemies and the attacks each Djinn would have! So fun
@@reneerodriguez7368 for what it was (pixelart-esque), it was very aesthetically pleasing! I loved the little lag that came with some djinni summons (creatures like zephyr and granite). My favourite place was after the Kraken boss fight; throwing lucky coins into the fountain and competing in the tournament was so fun!

That Swsh one is hilarious. I find it odd how it's been almost a decade and a half and there's yet to be cheats made for the original Rumble. I hope that changes someday. I played that one quite a bit

the bit about there being no cheats is just wrong, i've used them to beat the battle royale as ratatta a few years ago, iirc it both triggered the normal cutscene and activated the next area
There's a video from two years ago showing it's possible with cheats, actually. Just look up Pokémon rumble with rattata
Ridley 1 is actually not impossible. You just need to land 100 shots on him before he gets your energy below 30 and he drops the metroid casing showing that you "won" the fight.

@@taemien9219 Because this is wrong. Landing 100 hits without going below 30 energy only causes Ridley to drop the Metroid, to which he will then pick it back up and fly away like normal. Succeeding in this also alters the first boss fights pattern, or so ive heard.

@TRUE_STRIKER9001 that's why "won" is in quotes. You completed the fight successfully, but since the plot still needs to happen it plays a different cutscene that shows that you accomplished something but doesn't change the plot at all. Sekiro does the same thing.
The reason that you couldn't beat Ridley is because at the start of the game all damage dealt to him is the same regardless if you have super missiles or just shoot him, but if you dodge his attacks properly you *CAN* defeat him. Correct! By using one of the gitched beams, I think it's the Space-time beam, but I'm not a SM glitch expert, you can pretty easily do this fight with all collectible items maxed except for Missiles, which the opening cutscenes will cause to be deleted from your inventory. While the extra weapons won't help, the extra life can help an inexperienced player survive long enough to "beat" Ridley. I awlays aim for beating Ridley at the start of my personal challenge speedruns, despite losing time I could save by just taking damage quickly. Ditto for saving the animals and filing in every square of the map. Since I'm nowhere near competitive levels of skill, I prefer taking the time losses in exchange for "true" 100% completion.
Right you are. Thank you for saying that. I too have defeated Ridley that first time without cheating by just dodging his attacks and pelting him with power beam. And yes, he still takes off but not before fumbling with the Metroid cannister.

@@Videogamer-555 he doesn't really has health, just some conditions. -if samus has less than 30 energy, leave immediately -if hit a number of times (can't remember how many), drop the metroid and then grab it again and leave. so if you want to just go fast, let ridley hit you, he isn't able to kill you and will escape regardless.
There actually is something different that happens with Ridley at the beginning of Super. If you do enough damage without getting too low on health, Ridley will retreat on his own almost dropping the metroid as he does.
Is there a way to to rescue the Metroid canister in this game, and thus change the course of the game (to get a different ending)?
There are also the shroobs from Mario an Luigi partners in time. After 3 rounds a UFO knocks you out. I played this fight with cheats and nothing interesting happens, the game just crashes. This is also the case with tutorial battles like the "fight with the babies" tutorial a bit later in the game.

@@erwin101 Yeah, what i remenber is that defeating the 3 Shroobs before UFO kills the Bros, the game still counts up as the battle was won, i'm surprised the devs actually brothered to make some programantion to show up the results screen. 😅 However, after fade out back into gameplay, Mario and Luigi are still shown dead, as if the game still consider they are killed by the 3 Shroobs.

By the way Ridley can be defeated, it plays a small easter egg where he'll drop the Baby Metroid and pick it back up. You took too much damage. Also you may as well have shown Giygas being killed by status effects which is possible in GBA Mother 2
For the Heavy Lobster fight you can legitimately defeat him without changing anything in the game. All you do is as soon as you start the first area before the boss fight just let kirby be defeated, once you respawn you gain access to a new area where if you head left and fly up you'll see a wheelie enemy chilling on a cliff. Eat it for the ability and you can defeat Heavy Lobster by hugging the right side of the screen while spinning. Nothing would happen as the video said but it was an easter egg I would always do as a child when replaying the game.

The new games scale XP based on the level difference. So it is likely around level 1 to 5, which yields almost nothing
to what luziferious brought up i never liked level scaling difference concept in xp based games if there is a massive difference in level and therefore difficulty to defeat an opponent there should be a just as much of a reward/xp

In Golden Sun, you battle the main antagonists Saturos and Menardi at the beginning of the game. It's pretty much impossible to win the battle since you are super weak and they have endgame stats. But if you use cheat codes in order to give your party infinite HP and max attack, you CAN win the battle. However, nothing will change: the next cutscene will be you near dead on the floor and Saturos and Menardi leaving like usual.
In dmc5 you get a trophy and the game ends if you beat virgil in his demon form that sits in the chair

Funny thing about Heavy Lobster's first encounter, in the remake for Super Star, Super Star Ultra. *YOU CAN DEFEAT HEAVY LOBSTER AS META KNIGHT!* It's pretty much an inverted version of the original script where after some a few seconds have passed the Meta-Knights activate the engine and the thrusters on the back cause Kirby, his helper and Heavy Lobster to go flying away. Doesn't matter how long you take to defeat Heavy Lobster during Meta Knightmare Ultra, the game will not progress *until Heavy Lobster is defeated.* Which is a bit ironic given the fact Meta Knightmare Ultra is a game mode where you need to basically speedrun through the main games (Minus Gourmet Race for obvious reasons) with the quickest time possible in each game.
Yeah, this most likey done, because its an time attack mode, and the devs would feel weird to have an limited time boss, somewhere. 😅
Thanks to multiplayer and some very careful gameplay, I actually managed to beat the game by using the starting Rattata to deal the final blow.

Killing the Black Knight when he steps out of his house in Path of Radiance will actually punish you for winning. He isn't alive to keep the commander from taking control so the commander lights the ship on fire and kills Ike on it while he's en route to Begnion. Usually you can't even dent him unless you cheat. And I do remember beating Heavy Lobster before I was blown away.

I could already tell that defeating Heavy Lobster early wouldnt do anything since the boss that Kirby fights later isnt even the same Heavy Lobster. Since you can clearly see it fall to pieces at the same moment Kirby is blown off the ship even if you dont kill it, indicating that they destroyed their own attack robot in the process. The one you fight later is just another one.
Or that you beat it in canon.
I have actually managed to defeat heavy lobster in that encounter before.
I figured out that Guardian one on my own and it was so satisfying hitting the final Weak-Point Smash I can't even describe
Ridley's first encounter in SM has 2 end conditions, either you get your hp down or you put enough shots on Ridley that he just leaves after getting to a very red state. Doesn't take any hacking, you just need to be on point to dodge the attacks.

i was messing around on an emulator, and it hit me. i was honestly a bit surprised, but i guess it makes sense. Mario should only be able to do 1 damage. but if you do like an all badges or all partners code, it just freaks out. love it.

@@Electro4890 fr. i did a max everything run (full hp, all badges, full bp, etc) cause i wanted to see if the game crashed anywhere because of it. i think if you take partner bombette into koopa bros fortress, you can skip most of the interactions with npc bombette by just blowing up the part of the wall from inside the cell. doesn't crash, but its funny to see.

For the Guardian in AoC, you can just beat it normally. It takes a while (like 25 minutes), but it’s faster than doing the normal mission, and funnier.

When I was playing the AoC demo, I legitimately thought you had to constantly attack the guardian until it was dead so I had to retry that mission about 15 times before I actually beat it
What does AoC stand for again?
It’s actually possible to fight the guardian without overleveling. I tried it once because I didn’t care about the mission, and died like 3/4 of the way there. It hurt

Same, I killed it in the demo without doing the main mission. Took me 10 minutes I think.
Its not that hard considering you don't have to worry about your shield breaking if you're late with the parries. Botw already nearly broke me of parrying too early... thats what I think before practicing again at the forgotten temple.

I've actually seen a video like last week of someone beating the battle royal in pokemon rumble with a cheat. It just plays the victory animation and then the defeated one, letting the next rank open.

What I find hilarious is that I totally screwed with that first AoC guardian encounter the first time I played that level and managed to cheese it by playing smart and using parries and running. I had to go *back* and beat the level normally out of curiosity

Pokemon Rumble’s sequel, Pokemon Rumble Blast for 3DS, also has a boss fight that is meant to be hopeless but might be winnable. At the end of Chapter 3, Cobalion is fought in a 3-on-1 battle, but all of his attacks deal massive damage/instantly KO and are near-impossible to avoid. He does, however, take normal amounts of damage. It may be possible to win, even without cheats, with the right Pokemon.

Lol, i tried to fight it at first, but then all the characters were like "No, it's too strong!"
Ironically because the characters say "It's to strong" I say "¡In BOTW You CAN Kill a guardian in the start and here the weapons doesn't break!" So yeah... It takes so much time but just for that I did it

Mipha is my favorite age of calamity character, she carries me at higher difficulties, if you use her ultimate near an ally they heal half of their hp total
This was so worth it to see Heavy Lobster be defeated. :D I always tried and tried and could never quite make it. Can't believe all it took was Beam and Yo-yo!

In paper Mario, star rod only gives 1 defence, only when boswer is big and use star rod, then he's fully invincible

Fun fact: the guardian in AoC is more the possible to kill in your first playthrough. I know this because I sat there for about half an hour just reflecting beams and slapping him around between attacks. I knew the game would have me run away but since I saw I was doing damage I thought “why not”

I was havinv so much fun with the combos of the 2nd mission of hyrule warriors that I actually beat it when I first did the level. It took a while and I had to juggle stunning and aggression just to put myself in places to not get hit. Was so satisfying.

The first time I encountered the guardian, I did the quest regularly. When I finished the game, I started a new save. In this new save, I just beat up the guardian with under leveled gear and still won. (Took a long time though)

I have the demo for age of calamity, and I the first time I played the second level, I wanted to defeat the guardian, so after like, 15 minutes, with a combination of bombs, arrows, and deflecting the guardians blasts, I ended up defeating it the first try.
God that last one is a blast from the past. I remember playing that game for ages on my Wii

I actually thought that you had to fight the guardian in age of calamity, and I beat it one my first try... After 50 minutes, I looked it up afterwards and realized I had done something wrong lol.

When I played the AoC demo, I decided to defeat the Guardian, it was pretty tricky, but I eventually did it. Never even did it the "intended" way.
You can technically "beat" Ridley. He'll drop the metroid container, grab it again, and then flee just like before. Perhaps in that fight, it counts his damage as one hit per projectile, which is why fifty super missles wansnt enough
I believe he is "defeated" after taking 100 hits, regardless of what he is hit with. You just have to not let your health go below 30
@@LilacMonarch What happens if you cheat yourself to always have full health with an Action Replay code in an emulator? And then use another Action Replay cheat to give yourself the Hyper Beam or Super Bombs for the fight?

So for the AOC guardian fight, I actually managed to do it with link on my first run through when link was lv 5. It took a ton of patience but I knew all the timings for perfect dodge from BOTW

Knowing the flurry rush timing in botw doesn't mean shit in aoc, its so narrow.
8:07 I assume this is because the tongue is the area you need to hit in order to move Crocomire back, like Kraid’s mouth. It had tons of health so players realistically would either win or lose normally.
How do you normally defeat Crocomire? Push it back until what happens?

I actually remember playing AOC with a friend and he just stubbornly beat it. We were both surprised when it happened as well. It was made better when it said I best it as link with an underpowered soup ladle.
For some reason ive actually fought ridley with max items and nothing happens. using charge beam doesnt work its just 100 times getting hit by a normal beam.
I think it's either because he's programmed to only take 1 damage from everything or he doesn't actually have HP and is programmed to leave after taking 100 hits regardless of how strong those hits are.
During the Ridley fight in Super Metroid if you avoid taking too much damage and shoot Ridley enough it will drop the container but it will swoop back down and grab it then do the usual animation you still can’t kill it but it’s a neat little Easter egg

Ridley actually has an interaction for when you hit him 100 times before going down to 30 at the start of super Metroid. So that is kinda accounted for
