  • It was a very worthy final for a major. Exceptional play in general, with genuine moments of sublime play to add to the very real intensity of the match. Kenin was so mature in her approach to this tournament, and incredibly composed in the biggest moments. Muguruza was a terrific player for years, and it took an elite performance from the 21 yr. old to beat the two-time major winner.

  • I like that Kenin’s game appears to be more based on building a point rather than just slugging it out. It feels like in this match that Muguruza was feeding the ball to Kenin at times, as Kenin seems to just absorb and redirect that pace. • If you watch all Kenin's matches thru the AO it's a lesson in mental toughness. She was down breaks and behind in scores the whole tournament but she always found a way to pull back into the lead. Reminds me of Kerber 3 yrs. ago. No big weapons but plenty of smarts and guts. Hope she develops one or two other weapons because winning like she does takes a toll on you mentally and physically after awhile...just ask Angelique Kerber and Jim Courier.

    • To a degree. But Garbines errors is what handed Sofia the win. Peoples likes makes them see things that may not be there but they build ideas and visions to favor their favorite, as "mental toughness" and such BS. But most people are prejudice and bigoted so their visions appear accurate to them. It's like none of the other winners up to the second week, or to the quarters had none of it, according to everyone making the same comments you are.

      @markuse3472@markuse34724 жыл бұрын
    • @@markuse3472 I don't see how you can argue with the evidence of Sofia's mental toughness. Garbines for sure made some errors but many of them were not unforced. I assure you my admiration for Sofia came not from prejudice but from reviewing all her matches on tennis channel. I was actually hoping Gabine would win especially after coming back from a hard couple of years. She seems like a good, sensitive person in a sport full of warped egos. But anyway, as you say, "mental toughness " is a subjective opinion. Time will tell if she's really tough or the stars aligned for her this year in Melbourne.

  • remember this game very well and today saw Sofia Kenin defeating Sloane Stephens at Indian Well , my question is .. She has been away for injuries ? also i don't know what she has done to her face , and after this Match Muguruza collapsed on her game and still can't find the way to back at her top play ,

    • @@mick2spic as a person she ok, don't like that she gives up, she could have won this match, she didn't fight, Thiem same thing had it won let Novak throw him off his game, play him harder than Nadal could have won, he has the game to beat anybody he is going to win this year,

    • Calvin Hill She gave just about all she could against Kenin, they had some fantastic rally’s together. Kenin wore her out at the end and Murgu committed her defaults from exhaustion. Murgu though gave more than most women could. Hard to fault her when she was going against a beast in Kenin that day.

    • No Mugu should be in shape to play three sets , but she loses focus. Kenin beat her before in three sets . Mugu did the same Double fault thing at Wimbledon last year and lost 1st round . Stop making up excuses for her . Had Simo found her game to force three sets with her , very likely it would have been Simo vs Kenin . Garbine starts out fully focused and playing well from the beginning to get the win . If not she is coming from behind and she does not do well in those situations . She is hoping to get the momentum , but Kenin has the resolve and game to comeback -that is how Garbine loss . Out played by someone that can fight when trailing and has the confidence in her game to beat anyone.

  • This game reminds me of 1991 NBA finals. Bulls vs Lakers. Lakers won the first game, then got annihilated in the next four games. During the first set of this game, even though Muguruza won the first set. You know Kenin was brewing something nasty for the next sets, and the end is not gonna be good for Muguruza.

    • To a degree. But Garbines errors is what handed Sofia the win. Peoples likes makes them see things that may not be there but they build ideas and visions to favor their favorite. But most people are prejudice and bigoted so their visions appear accurate to them, even as to say Kenin is the only one with a "fighting spirit" and "determination" and that bullshit.

    • And you are such a hopeless Garbine fan . She choked and always seems so cocky , they both have their style and Kenin does something with the ball and may have slammed the racket but it does her up and she focuses . Can’t say the same about GM . I will say her running around and screaming after every shot is ridiculous . Sounds like she is over exerting herself and is about to go into distress .

    • Absolute good call Raymond. I'm surprised it has not been implemented yet. So many fights and discord over lines peoples calls. Computerised cameras would do away with all that uncertainty. Players are limited to three calls on hawkeye per set (I think). Its just not good enough in this technological age. Sometimes the computers 'go down'. So have lines people just in case but make the computer camera the final arbiter.

  • The coach and father of Sofia Kenin found a way to help out if his daughter is under-performing in one such match in tennis. If his daughter is losing, he moves to a seat right next to the coach of the opposing player without social distancing. This disturbs the tennis opponent of Kenin so much that she starts getting distracted and the opponent starts losing against Kenin.
