Sonya won her second WTA title today in Mallorca against Belinda Bencic, coming back from losing the first set in a tiebreak. She started her 2019 season by winning the title in Hobart. This is only her second full year on the WTA circuit and she is having amazing success! She started the 2019 season with a ranking of #56 and has climbed up to #28 with today’s victory. Probably her most interesting and biggest success of the year was beating Serena Williams in straight sets in the third round of the French open! She followed up that match by taking the eventual champion to 3 sets in the round of 16. She almost beat Halep in the second round of the Australian open. She reached the final in Acapulco by beating Azarenka and Andreescu. if she keeps playing tennis at the great level as she is currently, she should quite easily make it into the top 20 before the end of the year. The most impressive thing about her to me is her ability to maintain her composure on the court even when things are not going her way and her willingness to keep fighting to turn things around. More often than not, she is able to raise her level of play and change the direction and outcome of the match. As an example, she Lost the first set to Mertens 6-1 In the quarterfinals at this tournament, but was able to raise her level of play dramatically in the next two sets to win the match. That’s something you would expect from a very seasoned player like Maria Sharapova in the middle of her career but not usually expected from A relatively newbie 20 year old! Sonya has the ability to hit powerful winners on both backhand and forehand sides and she is one of the most thrilling players to watch when she is playing her best tennis like she did in the match against Serena.

@Mircea You realize that Putin wins elections much more decisively than any US president has for decades? So being anti-Russian leadership is in essence anti-Russian people. Also, the sanctions placed on Russians hurt ALL Russian, in other words they are anti-Russian. Finally, conspiracy theorists are still peddling the "Russian interference in our elections" nonsense despite it having been proven without a doubt to be untrue! These conspiracy theorists never say "Russian government". They say "the Russians" interfered blaming ALL Russians by implication.
@DariusSarrafi4 жыл бұрын
@Mircea I assume you're American. Have you paid attention to what's going on in your own country? 50% live in poverty. One out of 5 children go to bed hungry. 63% of Americans can't afford a $500 emergency. 80 million people don't have health insurance or are underinsured. In other words they don't go to the doctor because they can't afford it. 60000 of them die because of that. I think you have been brainwashed so much by this idea of American greatness (American exceptionalism) that you are completely incapable of introspection. This has rendered you a hypocrite who points the finger at others while guilty of the same sin!

Can't believe how little press this girl is getting for reaching a Grand Slam final. Congrats, Ms. Kenin!
She's not black enough for the left wing tennis press.
Johan Madetski Uncomfortable truth.
@@halffulltome It's so obvious, nobody will say it.
She's not pretty enough
She is a Russian that why. Russia gate probably.
Her accomplishments in 2018 was mindblowing from being outside top 100 to no 36 dts insane! Beating top seeded players like its nothing. Bravo Sonya!
now she has three titles oml
amazing!!! that's what it takes: talent, hard work, supporting family, mental strength and intelligence - #1 in the world, no doubt about it
What a talented and determined young lady. 💪 She has a nice supporting family as well. And now she's won her first Grand Slam title - Australia Open!! Congrats Sonya. We love you. ❤️
She is a fighter on court 💪
Hard working, lovely young lady. I wish her all the success she deserves. Love from Massachusetts.
Congrats with the AO victory from St Petersburg, Russia!
She has been a bit underrated up until now, so glad she announced herself today
Actually, no. When she beat Serena in 2019 French Open, that was a big coming-out party, but she has been impressing for a solid year. Not underrated by anyone who follows tennis regularly.
Born a Champion!!..Excellent work by her Dad!! 🙌🏆🙏
Love watching you play. Your determination is unmatched. Good luck for the rest of 2020.
Thanks Sofia! You did us proud! American's don't do well at the French Open. It's hard for any of them to make it to the quarterfinals and you made all the way to the finals. She did well and we are proud of you. You will win more grand slam tournaments. Congrats on winning the Australian Open!
Congrats to Kenin! I love that she thanks her parents for moving to U.S. to live the “American Dream.” Despite our challenges, it’s still the best country to make the most of hard work and opportunity. Keep it up!

Congrats my idol Sofia❣️🤗😍
What a BEAUTIFUL story!. THANKS, S. Kenin for sharing It with us!. Americans love you!.
It is still amazing to me that so many American stars are first , second or third generation immirgrants.Even in Canada . From Tiafoe to Zenin to Sampras to Aggasi to Michael Chang to latest US Open champion. This is a continent of people who brought there children to seek a better life in a land that said freedom was it birthright.America means the right to chase " Freedom and happiness" to so many people. " I hope one day all Americans will embrace "the American dream" and then we can be one.
Yup exact same thing in Canada, Milos was born in Montenegro, shapo from Russia , Felix's dad is from Togo

Loved the video...nothing like a dream come true from 5 to today. I watch her matches whenever I can find them on TV. The semi-final of Australian Open was a great, hard fought match. And the final was awe inspiring...she will be #1...all in due time. I have no doubts.

Hell Yes Sonya Kenin! You were down 3 Championship points in the second set and came back to win the Championship! I am absolutely on cloud 9 after watching you win this match. Get some rest Sonya and get ready for July 1st.

Sonia the NEW star of the WTA!!🏆AO
All the best young lady.
It looks like she’s working on her fitness and become leaner and it’s obviously producing amazing results. Congrats Sonya!
Congratulations Sofia. I've been waiting for this moment for you. Keep it up. So happy for you. 👏😊
What really stands out for me is how she got to play with such big name players from such a young age. It must have been incredible to be around these wonderful athletes. I hope she has much luck going forwards, and is able to achieve her dreams. If hard works counts for anything, then she is already well on her way.
Congrats on a great win. Your attitude on the court is superb love your spike, confidence & Fineness!!!!!!!!!
She never stops pacing on the court, like an energiser bunny!
I like this girl so much.
Who’s here because she just won the Australian Open?
lets go sofia kenin!
I'm not.I knew her, considered her beautifull some 1-2 years ago and the fact that she's Russian only encouraged me to watch her :D . I had NO DOUBT she would win. I knew our GORGEOUS SUN Simona Halep would win,but after the EXTREMELY BAD day the organisers gave her,i knew Sofia would win.I didn't had the slightest doubt. I tought she would win in straight sets, but a win is a win non the less :D . I was amased how restrained she was after winning (even our Simona, who's very shy, celebrated and manifested more joyisly :D ),but i'm very very happy for her :D .
I was here yes because she won the AO but knew here when she first played against Bianca Andreescu. I found out at that time that she was an extremely talented player with a lot of variety in her game. I'm a fan since then.
Everyone.
When Sophia won against Coco Gauff, I was impressed by her smart game..since then I' m watching her.
Congrats Sofia. I hope you can be #1 soon and stays the #1 for a long time. Wish you all the best.
Who's here in Oct 2020 after Kenin reached the French Open final? Sure hope she wins, much deserved! Go Sonya! 👏🏽
I have no doubt Sofia Kenin is working hard with her coach getting ready for the 2020 Australian Open. You can see in Kenin’s eyes she is the hardest worker in the WTA probably. I’ll be staying awake to cheer you on Sofia come January. I’m motivated for you. Happy Chanukah 🕎 and keep in working hard!
She just won! OMG!
0:52 When her Dad is fixing her hair and she pushes him away haha
You won the final in Mallorca. You will be number 1 one day. Congratulations!
Her tennis in Australia was extremely good, really enjoyed the various shots in the final and that forehead spin to open up the court and that super backhand well deserved win.
A great family like this will make all your accomplishments even better and will keep you grounded as your star continues to rise.
And the New...AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHAMPION 2020. SOFIA KENIN 👏👏👏

And today 2/1/2020 she reached one of her goals by winning her first career grandslam in Australia beating Garbiñe Muguruza.
good luck Sofia K. on your finals at 2020 Australian Open, I feel you are going to win, you have the drive and motivation, but congrats on your big win against A. Barty on the semifinal, you will reach that goal on being No.1
The unpredictability of women's tennis is cool, we see lots of stars rising, some fade and some prevail... GO KENIN!!!!!!
You are awesome, Sofia! So inspiring!
Already 5 career singles titles and 1 Grand Slam title...impressive! Congratulations to Sofia! She WILL be #1 one day...very soon I think...!
Kenin will number 1 soon
I love Sonya !! Love that backhand Drop shot.

Congratulations Sonya Kenin on your ascent to number 1...The Aussie Open is a great start. Nice to see the evergreen Dave Kozlowski at the beginning of the upload. I’m 50 and he was my tennis coach in the early 80s at Sea Colony, DE....time flies.

You are a great player Sofia.. Keep doing what you are doing.
trha2222 she is very young. She will win majors.
trha2222 Serena won her first gran slan at 18. And she is the most successful player in history of tennis!. Im not saying that Sofia will be next Serena. But she will win at least a few GS in my opinion
trha2222 ok , im not going to argue for that. Obviously Steffi was a super player as well.
So inspire love kenin spirit 🔥❤️
your the best
Mindblowing and stunning defeat of Serena Williams #RG '19 . WE ARE LOOKING AT A FUTURE NO 1. All the best Sonya!!
Isn't every new player a so-called future number one? Lol
@@amehka5416 nope! She is special
You got it right👍
God bless you!!!
I come here after watching her beat ashley barty. First grand slam final. Well done! All the best.
Nora Noah lol same here
We need a new champ on AO this year, and i really hope you got it young lady.. i am auto fan. I just look caro inside of you, 😇😇
Privet Sonya. Congratulations on AO title and all the very best.
if WTA can do this with all the up coming player about their family story, that could be great
She is so cute when she was little.....Now a GS champion. :)
She's amazing!
You will be number one in the world..Amin💖
less than a year later she won her first slam AO 2020! :)
Something every mother can be proud of 2:06
She gives great interviews.
I'm very happy for Sofia. She is a tenacious fighter and very entertaining to watch. Also happy to see a Russian succeed in this anti-Russian climate!
Work hard with talent, technique and dreams do come true...🎾🎾🎾🎾
