  • I had the privilege and honor of meeting Dan in the yearly 1980's at West Coast Taekwondo in Milpitas CA. Dan liked my quick boxing and kicking skills and he was happy to show me eskrima and nunchaku sticks. It was fantastic to talk and train with Dan about his teaching Bruce Lee the same techniques. What Dan taught me in just a few days showed me a totally different side of Martial Arts. Thank you Master!!!

They were for me, informative and inspirational through my own personal martial path within the FMA. God bless them all.

  • yep Guro Dan is a great teacher , very informative on all aspects of the fighting arts . It was a priviledge and honour to train with him in the 1980's and with the Late Larry Hartsell on the JKD grappling . I was a judoka then of 17 years experience and Hartsell just threw it out the window by showing me the confines of my art ..and how to expand upon and take advantage of other grappling arts !... really years ahead of the field and time ; the concepts of Lee and Inosanto have projected the arts decades forward towards the reality of combat !.

  • As stated in the vid, I'm of the Filipino-American persuasion. I've never understood (and my family always does the shoulder-shrug when asked) why some Filipinos (I don't hear this with old-school Ilocanos) pronounce the English and/or Spanish letter "c" in the Italian manner (not in the Spanish manner), as English "ch" ( @ 0:26 Ignacio = "Ignacho" ) or English "sh" (Hacienda = "ashienda"). Secondly, too many people mention Stockton as if it's the only place in the SJ Valley where Filipinos lived; There were many thousands of Filipinos all along the Central Valley and coastal ag-towns. Remember: The UFW's table grape strike was basically started by Larry Itliong in Delano -Hours away from Stockton.

I also attended the first Silat seminar in VA, (when Dan brought in Pendekar Paul Detours and his bother Victor). Pendekar Paul also was a humble gentleman, and I call it an honor to say the least to have met and trained with them both. They are the sum of what I call Masters, not just in technique and or application, but with their lifestyle and influence on those around them. Sad to hear of the passing of Pendekar Paul a few years back, so if you are lucky enough to meet and train with Sifu Dan, I hope you can appreciate him for the man he is and for what he has done for the Martial Arts, and the impact he has had on so many lives. It simply doesn't get any better than that.

    • Yeah, and Ron is a disrespectful asshole who used Sifu Larry Hartsell. I knew his arrogant a s s from his days in Chicago and I would still like to fight him. Sifu Larry did not go to their wedding and apologized to Diana for it, because it was Ron. I had over 100 hours of Private Lessons with Sifu Larry and stayed with him and his widow Debra many times. FU Ron.

    • At times a talented person or quick learner will do well. Also perhaps the other didn't practice enough. When a former dancer or gymnast is a on she welcome to teach because ,for example, they are already flexible therefore kicks and a lot of techniques come faster even in grappling.. train hard y'all.

    • Having trained with someone and being their students is very different. Guro Dan stopped taking pictures with a people because they would later claim they were his teacher. I do know that I have been with Guro Dan 1991 and this is the first time I am hearing your guy’s name. Guro Dan us know. For giving credit to his Instructors, so my guess is you were lied to. Doubt it. Guro Dan is known for his patience and allowing others to show him their stuff. That is very different than being Guro Dan’s TEACHER. Sorry to break the news to you. Everyone likes to claim they taught Guro Dan to elevate themselves. I would bet one of my fingers You were lied to or are lying yourself.
