Hello Steveo1kinevo I am the Maintenance Manager here at SIMCOM Lee Vista in Orlando. I am in charge of the team that repairs and services all the simulators and training devices we have here at our Corporate Office. I liked your video presentation and I am glad you had the chance to perform this approach you did an excellent job and your instructor did as well. For those at home this approach can be duplicated in MSFS 2020 on your home computer. (I do it all the time both in the simulator here as well as at home - of course I enjoy doing it in our Level-D G650 Gulfstream simulator the most)
Because this was a simulator, the entire time I was waiting for an engine failure, or go around instructions, or some sort of emergency. Glad it turned out OK. 😉
Engine failure in a single engine turbine ain't good.
I thought one of the gear lights wasn't going to light up the way he was watching it!
@@dalemullins4562 I didn't know if there was a green light for landing gear or if there was gonna be a problem with the gear coming up but it was okay 😆
@@sandybanjo Not good at all... Single engine aircraft with low IFR... Very nerve wracking.
When Steve mentioned there was no turbulence, the sim operator should have gifted him with some.
was thinking the same haha
If the "930" had a separate DME I would have flagged the GPS and make him fly a LOC/DME with a missed approach.
@@colinsouthern Yeah, I get that. They gave him a relatively easy "flight" for the cameras, and he showcased their facility. It's probably a good thing I'm not a simulator op. Flying an RNAV with a step down to minimums didn't look too challenging to me. Having to tune and identify the VORs and localizers while single pilot and still fly the plane in the "mountains" would have definitely been a workout, but I think it would also be a better demonstration of a pilot's skills.
@@davidrush4908 Aspen itself is not "easy", and less so with IMC conditions. I think the choice of flight was spot on.
@@colinsouthern Wow, someone older than me. I'm just older than dirt, but not as old as rocks. When I trained steam guages ruled, and I've flown more NDB approaches than I care to mention, and one of the planes actually had LORAN. Personally, I'm absolutely positive Steve has way more flight time than I do, and respect both his professionalism and his ability to talk to the cameras while flying the plane, even when he has something unexpected happen. One thing I have noticed though is his apparent dependence on GPS, because I've never seen him identify a VOR or ILS. Granted, that may have been edited out or the procedure deprecated with FMS (never used one, so I don't know), but I was taught to always identify. To my comments, the approach procedures are designed to safely get you to the ground if you follow them, so it doesn't matter if you are in the mountains or flatland. For an experienced pilot this is a fairly straightforward approach, but since its a SIM it is a perfect time to take a pilot out of their comfort zone. I think the LOC/DME approach would have done that. It's still a straightforward approach, but would have required a little more work to identify the fixes.
Used to go in here every other week in the Lear 45 . This brought back a lot of memories. Great technology. Nice approach
Oh. I got all excited at first thinking he was up in my neck of the woods🤣
My daughter is going to solo in a couple of weeks, I made her subscribe to Steveo ..
All the best to her! Flying solo for the first time is one of the best rewarding experiences ever 😎
Practicing and learning never gets old and the high-tech sims makes it so much fun!
One would hope that the upshot is a better-trained pilot than would be otherwise.
You're a proper geezer Steveo. I bet you're inundated with clunge! 👍
One helluva lot smoother than our landings into Aspen, how about the sim throw some Rock and Roll in it !
This is my hometown and where I first learned to fly!
In 1980 I flew into Aspen out of Denver in a Dash 7. It seemed like we dove down out of the sky. This was before, of course, most of the electronic aids now common.
I was close to going to work for SIMCOM at MCO as a full motion Simulator maintenance technician. They gave me a tour of their facility a long while back... Really kool place. I decided to stay working on the real thing in TPA, since I lived in the PIE area. Kool Video Steveo!!!
STEVIO, NICE ‘TRIP’ with the 930 at that, great going, @ an AOPA class some years ago, they had an example with serious mountains , Based on REAL events, have you see why things happen if distracted MOCA, ,,, MDA etc, + staying out of ACTIVE MILITARY AREAS. , ,,,,, THANKS FOR TAKING US ALONG ! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Your videos inspired me to keep chasing my aviation dream. I been following you for about a year now. I just passed my check-ride and received my PPL!!
Challenges in life gives you strength to make it better, more flight, stay safe, Captain Steveo
The 930 is such a sweet plane!
Being an old rusty steam gauge VFR pilot, this video was interesting as heck. Thanks.
The new tech really helps alleviate a pilot's workload and the situational awareness is astounding.
I've heard about that approach over the years. Thanks for bringing us along
"If you look down here at the ipad" Love it
Thanks Steve, great to watch and thank you for taking the time to talk us through what you’re doing. Really helps to improve my flight simming.
Great video and experience SteveO. Thanks for taking us along!
That was absolutely amazing 👏 Thanks for sharing with us all.
Thank’s to you and Simcom for the opportunity, interesting challenge! Please keep on with those very nice videos!
Excellent explanations, thank you Steveo!
Amazing composure and fluidity while creating this video and flying the sim! Great video Steveo1kinevo!
Tim Crowly on the Instructor station. Great guy & Instructor…..
Back in the 1980s I did some work for a company that made computers for the simulators on a contract for the US airforce. It was very challenging (at that time) to make computers that ran fast enough so that when the pilot moved the controls, it made everything respond in real time.
Thanks for sharing this, very interesting
Thanks for the video! I'm blown away by the tech on display -- couldn't help but think how the first cartographers would react if they could see this. I'd love to hear pilots discuss the sim experience -- obviously it's quite realistic on the one hand, but on the other hand you're not risking disaster if something goes wrong.
always good to stay current it also helped me keep updated on flying skills
Hi Steveo, It definitely shows your precision with the aircraft systems pays off when in difficult situations. Simulators have really come a long way. Although it is a simulated approach, it would give you a bit of stress which you never show it. Thank you for sharing. Take care, Be safe.
😂😂😂 Sounds like Tim read his Pilot Controller Glossary before this flight!
That was excellent. Many thanks for uploading it Steveo.
Awesome stuff, Steve. I flew just a couple of weeks ago for the first time in certified a 737 simulator - it was so awesome! Good job on that difficult approach!
As always, excellent flight management, on a demanding approach. Well done!
What an awesome panel. Great video!
Very nice video about the simulator that the company I work for provided. I work in the healthcare division of CAE, but pretty cool to see our aviation products in real-time use on your video. Thanks.
In my 26 years of military flying I never had an auto pilot or anything except my head and looking at the RMI to determine how to enter holding. Had to figure out approach times and wind corrections using a whiz wheel. These new systems are terrific and makes flying much safer and tremendously lowers the pilot workload once you learn the system. Great video and I enjoy watching all your stuff. This has to be a great time to be an aviator!
Pretty neat isn't it? I just got my instrument ticket a few weeks ago and I've never even used a RMI or the old school whiz wheel. I have an electronic E6B to figure out approach times (if I don't have GPS in the plane). I tip my hat to you older aviators who actually had to work hard even for routine approaches and flying. Haha. I haven't used an AP system yet either... although I joke to my instructor that I am the Autopilot for them.
When I was flying CORP we flew the Challenger and Citations and had just landed when the Challenger crashed there at Aspen 2014. I will never forget the tail number of the Challenger N115WF and the conditions as it was very windy that night
Nice work Steve. Always calm and collected. 👍🏽
Great Friday video Steve! I'm going to try this in MSFS 2020.
WOW this technology makes 1 appreciate what skills the Old-timers had using steam systems , Always look forward to your Vids & they way you Articulate Aircraft / Pwr. plant management and Set-up for various approaches.
Great video, thanks for taking us along.
Good grief Steveo, I was getting nervous just watching that, even knowing you’re in the sim! Lots and lots of mountains 😳! My fave Fridays are the ones when you upload! Thanks for the great videos. 👍🏽👍🏽
Your videos along with the new plane just get better and better! I love that plane
Wow I never heard of a Sim center before and that’s the first time I ever heard of how difficult it was to navigate through Aspen. Thank you for setting up your GoPro’s in the SIM that was awesome!
Thanks for sharing your experience!!!
Brought back alot of great memories flying into ASE with the CRJ. From LAX and DFW AA/Eagle
Steve .. awesome training... Thanks for Sharing
Thank you for posting! I enjoyed watching you fly the sim. I noticed how the "real deal" sim doesn't have any better terrain than P3D default scenery. Will have to try Aspen in my A2A V-35 Bonanza. Would be nice to have the METAR for Aspen when you did your flight.
That was great Steveo. IFR SIM training is sure different from the days of my Link training days.
Nice!!! This is my favourite plane in MS Flight Simulator and seen this video improves my knowledge with the Garmin glass cockpit. Thanks Steve.
Steveo, I have flown the 33 LOC step down approach many times in the MS 10 simulator, but always in VFR conditions. I'm not instrument qualified, but understand how they work. I'm an SEL private pilot. I now have the MS 2020 flight Sim and am going to start flying out of Denver to refamiliarize myself with the TBM 930 and the G3000. I have already forgotten how to use some of the features. That is the great thing about You Tube, plenty of tutorials about the MS2020 flight sim, and everything else aviation. I love the TBM 930. It would be a thrill to fly in the real thing I am sure. I enjoy all of your You Tube ride along video's. I watch each one that you publish. You do great camera work in your videos. Thanks SO MUCH for sharing with us!!! Steveo ROCKS!!!!!!
If you're still simming and have $40 laying around you can get the black square TBM850 which comes with an analog cockpit and higher system fidelity
it was in this video that IFR clicked in my brain. Thanks for this video. I’ll be enrolling in for accelerated training in a few months but i’m already learning so much with your videos. Props
One of your best videos. Very informative!
Hey Steveo! I’m at Simcom South right now getting my type rating in the SAAB 2000! Guys down here are great instructors. Keep up the awesome videos
Very interesting video Steveo...Thanks for sharing..Those sims are incredible and what a great opportunity for training...Felt like in real plane ..Aspens approach looks like a great challenge...You handled it like the professional you are ..no doubts..👍...Take care Steveo...🙏
Hi from Australia. This is by far the best vid you have uploaded over the years. I have watched it 3 times and its so informative and interesting.
I Steveo hope you are well buddy nice to see you. Brilliant flight buddy a bit safer for you today in the sim with no bullet holes in your plane.brilliant technology buddy. Safe flying buddy when you get back to the real thing.what a dream that would be for you to do that flight in👍real life for you buddy take Steveo and have a brilliant festive season phil.🇬🇧👍
Going to miss seeing you in the TBM. Yes, this was the 930 simulator, but the TBM cockpit has become a part of your identity. Lol .
wow I was on the edge of my seat.. thanks for sharing this SIM experience!! I'm in South Florida
Great Video! Happy Thanks Giving to you and your Family!
Can’t wait to do this on the sim in the TBM930.
Great vid Stevo, that was alot of fun. Very interesting, thanx.
It is great, thanks Steve for this video.
Time to go skiing.!! Great fun watchin' you Steveo and a fun ride, little spooky. Thanks.
…. The pilot sweats… the G3000 says… NO SWEAT! The airplane LAUGHED!
That was really fun to watch. I’ve flown into Aspen once with an instructor in a Cirrus, on a beautiful CAVU day. The terrain was impressive indeed. It would be nerve-wracking to do in IMC. I have a friend who lives there. He is authorized for one of the approaches that requires special training and (I think) an LOA. 😳
Great commentary as you shot the approach.
Great video 👍. I was lucky to fly an RJ sim a few years back. We did some instrument approaches into SFO, with near zero vis and a lot of crosswind. As a GA pilot, I didn't quite get all the instrument stuff, but nailed the landing anyway. Good on Simcom for letting you do this. I know sim time can be expensive 👍👍 love to visit them one day.
I remember flying into Aspen airport on a ski trip. It was in one of the coolest planes I've ever seen, a BAC 146.
As always great Video Steveo- That looks like a fun place to drill in the skills of an aviator.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks - that was awesome!
wow captain that was amazing , i will try it on my fly simulator
Excellent and educational video. Thanks.
Thanks 🙏 for another very interesting flight. Be well!!!
Great video and learning tool. Thanks for showing.
I must say this simulation was actually more intense than a real flight in many ways. I am so glad Simcom allowed this video as it is a great expereince and shows the importance of proper training to keep sharp. Thank you.
Very interesting and informative. Thank you for sharing.!
Thanks for taking us along!
Great video. Had fun in 737 SIM doing stuff you can't do in real life like the checker board approach into the old Hong Kong airport and the instrument approach in rain into the new airport.
I've done that flight so many times in our PC12. It's no joke.
I'll be calling SimCom soon for my Grumman Yankee annual re-currency too and hopefully they got a touch screen one as well.
OMG best sim flight I have ever seen, Thanks Stevo.
Great job Stevo as always
Wao Steveo….it was a little intense that last leg of the approach…well done.
I always wanted to shoot that one. Loved it! Thanks for a great approach.
Thanks for the excellent videos! You inspired me to transition into TBM flying-heading to Simcom!
Very instructive and exciting!!
Thanks Steve, that was great!!! I wonder how much they charge for an hour in the simulator. After all you were in a multi million dollar simulator assisted by an employee who I'm sure doesn't work for nothing. :-) I fly a J3C Cub and I'm always forgetting to lower my landing gear. Good thing I didn't retract them on depature in my 75 Mph 1946 hotrod.
Ha! At Simcom this week doing TBM700 initial.
As always, THANKS SteveO!
Great video - kudos to SimCom
Stunning flight!!!! I will running to fly in my flight sim haaaa great!
Nice. I'm just starting my ifr training.
That was awesome!! Beautiful simulator!
Now that's the type of sim I want to have in my garage.
That was fun! Thanks!
Loved this!
Amazing video, Steveo. Thanks!
I would enjoy time in those simulators so much.
