  • An eagle landed about 15 feet away from me while sitting at my regular river spot. I see them regularly since I live in WA state, but this hit me different. We looked at each other, acknowledged each others presence. And with not an ounce of fear this majestic creature took 3 flaps and soared off. The sound of the feathers disrupting the air was unreal. Awesome moment.

    • Not really, provided the animal healthy and the ends can be mated together most fractures will heal. You can get fractures that point blank refuse but that's usually either if they've fractured at a previous fracture point or there's other health issues. Oddly enough in humans it takes a lot more relative force to break a child's arm than an adults, because there is a lot of collagen in the childs arm which makes the bone bendy.. The downside is the skull sutures haven't closed so a head injury much worse in a kid than an adult.

The only thing I have to criticize is that they prevented her from getting comfortable in the situation. If they had tried to at least have one caretaker who she trusted, she'd been less scared, confused and probably also avoided some rough handling.

    • My father was a veterinarian in Sparks, Nevada and the chosen vet for the Nevada Fish & Game. We were brought a golden eagle which also had a broken wing. I was in Jr. High School and missed the surgery but worked in the hospital after school to feed and care for the animals. When you would approach the eagle in the cage he would rock back and spread his talons as if to say, "Go ahead and reach in. I've go a surprise waiting for you." Eagles are such beautiful and majestic birds of pray - also called raptors for a good reason. The eagle was with us for a week before taken by the Fish & Game to a sanctuary. It was released back into the Nevada desert where it had been wounded and it was reported to be seen many days hence. I really enjoyed this story because in a small way I lived it.

I'm honored to be a native American and have the opportunity to help wildlife when I was younger. Also, the best thing ever is when the wild animal tries to fight you. It's a sign they are ready to go home. 👍 Remember wildlife belongs to the earth they deserve to live here as much as we do. We wouldn't have survived without wildlife, they are important to the environment as well as we are.
