  • I rescued a crow with a broken wing and dislocated leg, we named her Sheryl. We kept her safe in our backyard for over a month while she healed. Her family (a family of crows is actually called a ‘murder’) visited her everyday. They would bring gifts, food, talk and just come check on her. One day she just flew away. It was such a sweet experience. After that, we still had crows come visit us and leave random trinkets in our backyard. Gifts? We’re not sure but we enjoyed it. Crows have the intelligence of young children and actually have names, or specific sounds they make for the members of their family. Really neat birds despite the bad rep they get.

    • I used to work at an office that had a family of crows living nearby. I would throw them food and what not every now and then. Later on a family of hawks moved in and started causing trouble. They would attack people and cut their heads open with their talons. One day when I was leaving a hawk swooped in to attack me, I managed to duck out the way (literally was running and ducking lol) but the crows must had seen and came charging in and chased the hawk away. After that day, whenever I would arrive or leave there would be a crow near the entrance and one near my vehicle. The hawks never messed with me again.

  • My mom brought home a crow that fell out of the nest one day after she walked the dogs. We raised it in the home. Imagine we had 2 huskies, and a crow in the house. The huskies first tried to test the crow, it immediately bit my hus in the nose and from that moment on they became friends. He became one of the dogs at some point it was hilarious, a flappy little black doggo imitator that ate cat food. We actually became close as it would be very clear in its communication using loud noises. and it would regularly want to sit on my shoulder when we went to play with our neighborhood friends outside. After some time I felt it was time to teach it to fly by spinning slowly while it was on my arm until it fell off, he would open his wings and he would try to remain seated on my arm while getting used to the wind under his wings. And after a few days of training we noticed that a murder of crows started gathering in the tree in the yard, I suspected with my childly imaginationit could be his family as the tree my mom found him under was closeto our house. As if they were warching our little crow from a distance until he was ready. When it could flap hard enough after days of practice, I lifted it up and boosted it into the air where it immediately spread its wings and flew to the tree and all the crows flew out. One of my most amazing childhood memories, I was proud as hell even tho I was kind of sad at the same time, my comfort was that I am sure he came back a day later with his flock. Our tree was suddenly filled with crows again and this time the little one flew down into the yard as it looked at me. We stared at eachother some time as if he wanted to tell me he was in a good place, and then the flock went up again and he left forgood. I will never forget that amazing whitty little crowchek, he made a big impact on my life growing up. Amazing and creatures these crows.

    • @@arlecelarae654 Hi! Originally, I was trying to get the crows to stop killing every single duckling that was born here after less than a day of life. I decided to try to bribe them with healthy treats, and when a new bunch of young crows had just fledged, I offered them extra treats in exchange for quiet and demonstrated the sound I preferred. If they were loud, I would say "Nuh-uh!" very firmly and then make the sound I wanted from them again. If ANYONE refused to follow the rules, no one got anything. I know that it's mean, but it was necessary for the crows to police their own and that's the only way to get them to do it. You will look absolutely insane to everyone who hears/sees you, but it shouldn't be long before the crows listen to you. 🥰

They quickly decided that with the ducklings, not only would they not kill them but they would also protect them from other predators. I'm sure that only "my" ducklings were off the menu, but they really did have fun messing with other predators and getting treats for it. I honestly didn't expect any of this to work, but they are extremely bright and quick to learn. There are different personalities and mental capacities for most animals, just like humans, so you have to work a bit sometimes to find one that's amenable to your suggestions.

Originally the crows would just come in the time between her finishing and her mom returning outside to clean up. They became more daring, and she more consciously choosing to feed them, as years went on.

They did indeed bring her various items, but it became a flood, and some items belonged to the neighbors who also had been complaining about the large flocks of extremely noisy and messy crows. He couldn't get out of the bush on the ground. His wing was injured. I took him to school and asked a janitor to keep him until after school. I went and got him, and took care of him. Feeding him worms etc. He finally got ok. I did the right thing my parents taught me, and released him out in our backyard. He flew up on the wires. He watched me for a bit, and flew away. I really thought I'd never see him again. I only kept him a few days. Anyway, a day or two later I was out in our pool. The crow came to me, he landed on the head of my lounge chair. I must have frozen and stared at him with my mouth open in surprise! I was so excited! I said, Hiiii!! How are you?? He brought me shiny things too. Mostly pop tops from soda cans. ( 1973 ) He came a few more times and then I don't believe he came back. I'm 58 now. I'll never forget our friendship. Ever.

  • As someone who raised two baby crows, this melts my heart. When I was about 9 yrs old my big male cat had gotten a hold of two baby crows that tried to either fly out of the nest or perhaps fell out. Anyhow, one had an injured wing and the other an injured leg. My neighbor who was a natural healer helped me put a poultice and splint the injured leg with a popsicle stick. 🥹 I was the momma to these two amazing creatures for over a year. I would help exercise their wings by having one in each hand holding their feet while raising them up and down. It was a sight to see. 😂 Then, one day after about a 18 months they flew off together. I was sad and worried but they would come back to be fed every day for several months. Then they just stopped coming, so I knew my job was complete. I feel so grateful for that experience. It is wonderful to have such an amazing connection with animals you wouldn’t expect to. Some people think that crows are a problem bird but they don’t know how incredibly smart, sensitive and loving they are. When they are in a flock and one of them is injured or killed, they grieve just like we do. Crows are very special. 🦅♥️🦅 Thank you for this lovely video. 😊🥰

Jokingly nicknamed them the jekylls.. cannot ignore their Craw.. Somehow they managed to help me pick my campsite by coming down to the ground in the areas where I was passing. Turn out to be good spots.. normally they stayed high up.. As I would walk along if they came to the ground to look for food.. I would look at the area they were at.. it would be perfect for a overnight camp. Started throw them bits of food each time I got something .. it was a bittersweet ending when I got a place to stay.. rabbits raccoons possums crows coyotes Hawks sparrows Cardinals even some of the lizards and a groundhog has come to visit me in my trailer.. I've had two praying mantis come to visit.. a fledgling sparrow mistakenly get into the trailer .. I just stood there waving my hand near the opening every few seconds and she figured it out.. My time on the street during the first covid shutdown was quite an experience to say the least... I come away with a different understanding of animals .. a form of communication I can't quite explain any words. Crows are awesome. All animals are amazing even rattlesnakes.

We fed them when necessary and gave them shelters and water when they asked for it!! They would leave us little?gifts such as flowers and coins. The original parents mated and raised a family at least 5 times. when the "teenagers" grew up they would either leave or become babysitters for the elderly parents. So calm and peaceful. So caring. And funny! Great sense of humor! And such wise teachers! I loved them all!

    • I hate to break it to u and him, but all wild animals will return to a place where they get “free” food- all animals will do what’s easiest to get food (even humans)... that’s why many animals rummage through dumpsters... if this guy ever leaves, and the crow is still alive, it will harass the ppl that move in if they don’t give him food 🤷🏼‍♀️ The crow is essentially dependent on the food he gives him now. It now associates humans with food. While saving the bird was great, continuing to feed him as an adult creates an unhealthy relationship with humans .... that’s why game wardens say “a fed bear is a dead bear”- a much more intimidating animal that will display scarier aggression than a crow if it has been fed by humans and other humans don’t feed it

    • @@candicecart9786 I think you're right, mostly anyway. Klaus probably has become dependent on the food this guy is giving him and he might even pester the new owners of this house should he ever leave for any reason. But I also think Klaus does indeed recognize this guy as someone who has helped him. I won't go as far as others and say he appreciates it, or he loves the man or anything like that because I'm not sure crows have a capacity for emotion, I think it's more likely that Klaus recognizes the mans behavior as non threatening or good, which tells his instincts to allow him to interact with the man. But if he does come to the house after this man is gone then it likely won't be for long. He won't be able to recognize the new occupants and will likely begin observing from a distance and eventually not return at all. As far as the food goes, who knows, he might do just fine on his own. It really depends on his instincts.

No feathers at the time of rescue and i hand fed them every two to four hours around the clock. So as they got bigger, feathers growing and really not knowing enough info about them i just kept them safe and fed. At the point where they close to flight i knew they were bonded with me and my 98lb pitbull. And when they did take flight that first spring and summer i could not go into the yard without them being wherever i was. Even when i was mowing they were on my head or shoulders helping or supervising🤣my work. They would 'graze' with my dog and if i was not around my wife said they always were on the deck complaining about my absense. That first winter they were gone and then when spring came back so did they....with friends lol. This went on for over a decade. Smart, affectionate, and just part of the family. But i am convinced they had offspring that still live here and though i had no phyiscal contact, they seem to be comfortable within 10 feet of where i might be sitting in the yard. They are among the most intelligent animals on earth. I have lots of birds, squirrels, and a few other critters that call my yard home. A big factor in that is tgat i had built in in 91/92 a pool made from dry stack river worn limestone that has 3 waterfalls with two 8ft streams that i never used chemicals to clean. Just fast moving water through a strong pump n filter system that became the watering hole for the nieghborhood creatures. My dogs did not have unsupervised access so, most animals were relaxed here. I could not move to the country so i brought the country to my back yard(100×200 fenced in area) but on the subject of the families here i think there is a passing of "info" to subsequent generations and none of my resident critters are fearful of my or my wifes presence. But Tom and Jerry(the two crows) were my friends and also my pitbulls buddies. I have been very privelidged to have these relationships. I have been here for 31 years now and my nieghbor next door over the years has commented many times about watching our interaction with my babies, seen both crows, cardinals, finches and a few others i have helped at times land on my shoulders or head to say hello. It has been halarious at times in the spring or summer when i am doing yard work, sometimes bent over doing something and many critters landing on me or near me just to see what i am doing. Some are just nosey🤣 others thinking i am going to dig up something for them. They crack me up. Also i think i have become so used yo their calls and sounds that i get the impression some are just complaining about something😂

  • Cute. They’re highly intelligent. A friend shared a story of how he was stationed someplace (army) and was with one other guy as guards. He made friends with the local crows and they started sharing walnuts with him, the birds would fly high up and drop them, then proceeded to eating them once cracked. My friend took some and left the rest for them. They started bringing extra, to share. However! My friend’s buddy one day seemed worried that my friend isn’t wearing his helmet. “You must keep it on because these crows will drop the walnuts on you head and it huuurts!” Turns out this guy was taking the entire walnut after the crows had cracked it. They were simply retaliating. So, yeah, they can tell people apart, as well as their actions.

    • Indeed, many many stories that these amazing birds can and do tell individual people apart, being vindictive and aggressive to the ones who do things they dislike and often very friendly and appreciative of those who help them. Don't be a douche to them, they WILL remember haha.

    • @@patriciafarran9742 Because I moved the Appalachian smokey Mountains, in 2018 to retire, almost off grid... There has been a learning curve. I thought some of the crows that were visiting had a deeper voice that sounded like a croak. After a bit of research oh, I found that the crows flap their wings when they fly and they do hang out in groups. The Ravens which are native to this area, fly alone or in pairs, they Glide a lot without flapping their wings, similar to the Hawks. Their voices are different. Crows caw. Ravens croak among other noises. Their beaks are different and the rough at their neck is different. Their tails are shaped different. At first it was hard to tell the difference. Ravens don't live everywhere in America. Crows, pretty much do.

When the mom noticed her daughter wasn’t eating because she wanted to give her food to the crows, she bought food for them & they would feed them together. The crows kept coming back & basically watched the daughter grow up & would bring her gifts. Once she went somewhere & left her camera lens (or lost it) & one of the fellow crows brought it back to her 😭 crows are amazing, intelligent creatures. I want my own crow friend 😩
