  • Harpy eagles have sort of become a "symbol" of our household. They are beautiful and unique, in that they have only one chick at a time, and the chicks will often return to their parents throughout their life just to see the parents. Since we were only able to have one child, it is kind of a cool story for our daughter and us. We tell her she has to be like a harpy eagle when she is older and never forget to visit us. :) We have a picture of a harpy eagle in our living room as well.

And a green anaconda can be a tenth of our height, and yet be multiple times heavier than us. Or a clostrinum botulinum, a bacterium three dimensionally billions of times smaller than us, yet can still kill even the toughest of us. So stop your fucking pholippine propaganda, and accept the fact that we humans are statistically ahead of the harpy eagle, or the andean condor, when it comes to flying. • Once the harpy appeared here in my neighborhood and terrorized the neighborhood. The birds went into a frenzy trying to lure the harpy away from their nests or something. But the craziest thing is that people went to the street to see it as if it really was a mystical creature, it was huge and it flew very elegantly. This is a very rare sight to see in a big city like São Paulo But I think my proximity to the Atlantic Forest gave me this gift in the form of a sighting.

  • I'm from Acre, Brazil. My grandfather was once a riverside dweller and once collected rubber tree sap (latex), his father said that when he was a boy he heard about a case involving a harpy and a baby, the parents left and left the children, there were older children and babies. The harpy took the baby and took it away, when the parents returned, the father killed the harpy. My grandfather said that the child's father already suspected that this could happen because she was flying close to the place and this seemed strange for her habits. I thought it might just be a story from my grandfather, until I saw one in person and found out what kind of prey it hunts. (Forgive me if the story is not clear, my English is not good and I used Google Translate for most of the text)

According to legend, it was larger than a 747, breathed fire, and was able to read the minds of its victims, which included mostly elephants and entire tribes of amazons. More reliable sources cite it as the largest known eagle, which ate 500lb Moa, and snacked on human children.

I've seen tons of Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, and other large raptors, including Andean Condors and King Vultures. While it's fantastic to see all of these, there's nothing like seeing a Harpy. Even though it's a bird, they're still intimidating as it flew not far from us. It was the experience of a lifetime.

  • Theoretically the Harpy eagle should be the strongest coz it's heavier and bulkier but we all know eagle's do not roam on foot and weight is a disadvantage when flying and lifting heavy preys. Based of bone samples taken from an eagle's nest the Philippine eagle has the heaviest preys like pigs, dogs, pythons, macaques, monitor lizards, goats, deers etc. and it's all documented. These preys are not just heavy but are also dangerous unlike the usual prey of the Harpy which is the slothwhich is average size and doesn't even fight back. The reason why the Philippine eagle is capable of lifting heavy preys is because it's dimensionally bigger than the Harpy meaning it is taller than the Harpy due to its longer legs, it has a wider wing span and broader wing surface area than the Harpy, and most of all it is lighter than the Harpy. Even the Golden eagle which is slightly smaller than the Harpy eagle has far more impressive prey sizes.

The talons in the video are a Males, a Females engulfs the whole hand. A Harpy Will eat your family. They will tear you limb from limb and come back for your remains. You can easily find a Harpy in the Amazon. But you have to know the right spots. Way more than 5000 in the Amazon, more like 25,000+. Outsiders aren't welcome in many parts. Sorry.
