If you complain to HR, generally one of 3 things is going to happen. A. They put together a justification and then fire you. B. They take the minimum action needed to insulate management from any liability. C. They ignore you completely.

    • To be fair it was not like Anakin was in a position to refuse Palpatine. There was no way for Anakin to be certain the visions would be caused by his hand, unlike the previous visions of his mother that were a result of his inactivity. The only people who could help him only told him "Let go", Palpatine was the only option he had left, an option that at least listened to Anakin, one that he knew almost as long as the Jedi.

    • @@JohnFrumFromAmerica That does, in fact, explain the child murder. When Anakin accepted Palpatine, he chose the path of the dark side. Yoda had this to say about choosing the dark side; "Once you start down the dark path, forever it will dominate your destiny, consume you it will". With Anakin turning to Palpatine, he inadvertently allowed the dark side to take hold of the decisions and outcome of his life all for the worse.

Everyone who chooses dark always does the worst possible thing and everyone who chooses light does good things. It's very simplistic view of human motivation and actions.

The prequels constantly demonstrate those who choose the light, the Jedi, have the dark side affect decision-making by "clouding their vision." Justification and explanation are two entirely different words with separate meanings.

    • It's because when you consider how large and seemingly, professional run the Empire is, the Saturday Morning Cartoon villainy of Palpatine, the Empire stops making any sense. The EU writers sprinkled some self aware characters near Palpatine to sort of cover that up.

There are literally dozens of bureaucracy levels, entire organizations, between Palpatine and the poor schmuck flipping the switches at a Star Destroyer's console. The average Imperial citizen barely knows who the Emperor even is, just that there is one. And yeah man, those self-aware Imperials always had my sympathy. Just company men grinding away towards a pension.

  • I always found it funny that Palpatine would be pretty close to getting someone to give in to the dark side, and then when they're just about to cross the point of no return, he says something to the effect of, "Yes! Give in to your hate! Strike down my apprentice Vader, who is your own flesh and blood! That is exactly what I want you to do - you going ahead with what you are about to do will fulfill my evil agenda perfectly! Please continue!" Then, upon hearing this, the hero has second thoughts and ends up deciding to go with restraint after all. Go figure. The big one is with Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi, but pretty sure he does the same thing at least a couple other times in the prequels & sequels, too.

He then explains to her that her that he planned everything and that him being killed by her is exactly what he needs to rise to power again. Then she decides not to kill him after all because it's what he wants. If he just kept his mouth shut, she would have done exactly what he wanted her to.
