  • This is one of my favorite tournaments that Nadal won. Everyone was writing him off after his injury in 2012, but this match showed that he was back. He then went on to win Madrid, Rome, RG, Montreal, Cincinnati, and the US Open.

Matches like this (as well as Nadal’s 2013 season where he won IW, Cincinatti, Canada, US Open, etc) shows that anyone who says Nadal is “a clay court specialist”...is lying through their teeth. • He’s an amazing hard court player but almost statistically unbeatable on clay . He has an 19-8 record I believe against djokovic on clay and a losing record 7-20 on hard . Against fed it’s 14-2 on clay and 8-11 on hard . A lot of it is matchups he can give Federer a hard time on any surface because of how they’re games matchup. He also has more us opens than djokovic which is incredible even though he hasn’t been as consistent there throughout his career as djokovic .

Whereas Nadal has won 2 Wimbledons, 5 hard court slams, 10 masters on hard court and an Olympic gold medal. While also being better on clay courts than anyone on any single surface in tennis history.
