I rebuilt a crash damaged Audi RS6 & then installed a GT3 widebody kit in hopes to ship the car all the way from the UK to the USA & drive it to Las Vegas for SEMA car show. But we didnt make it far before catastrophic failure.

Sooo who's money is on the Fuel being the issue .... 91octane being the best i could get out here.. Perhaps a stupid mistake
For sure the fuel!
Going to be this matt
The audi not have a flex fuel sensor?
That's what I thought the moment I saw you putting gas in the car. I was wondering if it's tuned for 91... Hope for the best!
Mat, any major altitude difference from where it was tuned and LA?
we need to give credit to freddie for always helping matt and just never letting anybody down! Freddie is a legend
100% agree! Mat would be at home in the US.
Love Freddie he really is the MVP
And DDE for making their shop available
I ❤ matt's dad! His laugh is so uplifting
Mats Dad is who keeps his spirits up with his legendary one liners. What a diamond he is. Another engine build inbound. Can’t wait!!
So good of Freddie and DDE. It’s great to see the KZhead car community filled with people willing to help.
I mean DDE kind of owes him a little bit for breaking his murcielago that one time 🤣
Are we sure DDE wasn't just acting? Hahhaa
@@ericsmith3996probably, I love DDE but they have been doing a bit too much "acting" lately.
@@iluvtorace4786 it's entertainment..they are in the entertainment business...acting or not, their content is always good..even that skit last week was entertaining
@@docco007 I mean me and a whole lot of other people disagree that it was entertaining because we don't watch them for fake skits we watch for awesome car content and their banter. But obviously you're allowed to have you're own opinion and if you enjoyed it then cool. But obviously by Dave making an apology video regarding it they know the majority of the audience didn't like it and they won't be trying that again.
Matt and his dad illustrate the power of a positive attitude. Nothing phases these guys and their smiles and attitudes keep us glued to the channel. This is why I watch. It also motivates me, as it is the single characteristic that successful people have. They don't get hung up on the small stuff.
However, when they were laughing their heads off after the engine went boom, I was dying inside, it felt like laughing at a funeral. The poor fucking motor!! (with a wink)
Your dad is such a positive guy in a horrible situation!, such a great dad well done💙👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Its called Teamwork 😁😁
Everyone needs a father like that who laughs at every misfortune. He calms the situation 💪
Too true that Bro😁😁
its amazing right, its not my car but the thought of a seized engine doesn't make me want to smile, but i guess being optimist in these situations helps
No stress when you have a full bank account mate
@@4rled Its not about the money ,they still need to do the work!
@@nickdemos8805 They need to do work that makes them a shit tone of money. How inconvenient.
Freddie is the mate everyone needs in life. Always has your back. He's a rare breed and must be protected.
I think Freddie has many sides. The most of which we do not get to see. OR hear for that matter. However, each and every side of him twinkels and sparkels with equal measure. I wish I had him in my circle.!
Mate, this is why I watch you every week. Your ups and downs are what makes this channel great… I’m much like you and when I’m about to just give it all up, I see you and see that I’m not alone…and like you, I keep going. Don’t give up and learn from it… it’s deflating when this happens but don’t dream about giving up. Cheers
Very heart-warming to see your relationship with your father. He seems so supportive and just a great dad overall. Happy for you!
Absolutely love how, even though the situation was sh*t, everyone was still laughing. That mindset is unbeatable.
The joy of editing 🙂
The videos are doing so good it doesn't matter. Everything is content.
He’s a millionaire now it’s not that hard mate
This because the car has insurance and financial state of this production.
Always say alhamdulillah
It's amazing how Matt can still keep a smile after he's blown an engine(expensive engine) talk about keeping positive through rough times...
Chances are his money didn't pay for A) the car or B) the repairs or C) the tuning, it's easy to smile then
Don't forget he is a successful content creator🤣Drama is always good for us to view but feel really sorry for Mat anyway🤣
When you'r net worth is more than 5 million £ an RS6 engine is peanuts
@31144 well regardless of who paid for the car, repairs or tuning...I think I'd still be devastated when the car is damaged, even worse after traveling so many miles for it to be damaged from the first run, and by the way we did notice they worked on it at 00:00...I'd definitely sleep and say I'll attend to it tomorrow...let's appreciate his work ethic
@ZHAOJINXIAN I agree it's good content but still devastating to experience
I absolutely love these videos - they are absolutely great - content - editing - everything - I really hope that you don't stop this type of content with all your mishaps and learnings as you grow bigger, as you will, because this humbleness and reality is what bought many of us here in the first place - please don't lose that and start flexing to something else as many channels do - this is by far one of the best channels on the internet! Thank you for the time and effort all you guys but in for us to enjoy!!
Just found this channel man I love it can’t seem to stop watching I watched the m5 being rebuilt and fell in love
You blow the engine and your dad cracks jokes. What an absolute legend!
The one thing that always amazes me is Matt’s’ attitude. It never changes, always a smile and optimism; even at the final hour. Very inspiring bro! Thanks for the Monday motivation 🙏🏾
For real after all that hard work an get All way there an that happens I could not even be on a camera
@@joshdixon5747 Exactly!!
'Positive mental attitude' is Mat's recipe for success - I think he probably inherited it from his Dad. If Mat could bottle it he could make even more money😂😂
Like father, like son
I noticed that his dad's first reaction was to burst out laughing. Good role model.
I would guess lower octane fuel in the states compared to the UK led to detonation which blew a rod causing the piston or rod to crack the block allowing coolant into the combustion chamber. This might explain the coolant and the damage to the spark plug as the piston probably hit it. It might have needed a different tune for the lower octane fuel. I’m very sorry for your car but it does make a great episode, and you get to make more great ones fixing it. Best of luck.
Yeah 3:48 Knock Knock 😂 Who's their? Just some 91 Vpower 😂😂 Probably says minimum Octane 95 on the Fuel cap 😂😂 Well atleast the Piston has *Subscribed* 😂😂
@@statementleaver8095 US 91 is equivalent to 95 in the UK. Problem is once you get a map and crank the boost up the margin for safety gets a LOT smaller. And this is exactly why most cars are never mapped from the factory to make as much power as they actually can.....absolutely no doubt it was the fuel.
@@midlifecarsis6420 91US Premium isn't even close to 95UK regular in Octane level. 91 is Piss water! UK doesn't even go that low for this very reason.... Knock!!

It's amazing how you guys handle issues as they pop up. No panic at all!! Can't wait to see the next video and where you guys would be.
Yo Mat, if you get a spark plug thats melted like that one you showed that means the engine had to lean of a mixture and that cilinder is toast now, plus all the debris is in the engine now. Just like Mike at DDE you will have to take the whole engine apart and check everything. Plus you will need new oil coolers because the debris will get stuck in there and you will not be able to flush them. Best thing to do is see if you can get a second hand engine and use the old one for spare parts, that is after checking everything and I mean everything! Well good luck and hope the rest of your stay in the US brings you smoother sailing, cheers m8
And maybe because of too much boost for US pump gaz....
@@vincentceas4996 on the contrary, us pumps are know to be low octane.
@@mtgcarsthe numbers mean different things in different countries.
This is what I think. Cali 91 piss gas is so poor in octane. Lean event too much boost = fried plug.@@vincentceas4996
Lower octane fuel plus higher boost - motor could have been pinking, that could cause timing issues.
Dude I love your dad laughing and smiling the entire time - what a spirit- doesn’t matter what’s wrong- NO DOUBT Mat will fix it
Its great to see the fantastic community around you trying to help. 👍👍
I dont know about the car, but you and your dad doing this together and having such good positive attitudes is the best thing about this video. Everything else is just a plus.
Even under the circumstances you and your dad still laugh massive love and respect to you get home safe lads
That’s called having money 😂
Certainly helps when you've copped for £20k+ in KZhead cash in 3 hours.
The issue here Mat was that you put 91 in a car tuned in the UK, which is fine in a pinch but not for drag racing!!! Someone should have advised you to put octane booster in there at least!
i was thinkin that too
That’s not the problem. The computer would have shut everything down prior to catastrophic damage
@@johnnychimpo7539 perhaps not with the tune on it
That would have only resulted in power loss. Not engine failure. Now if he put diseal or water in fuel tank.... That'd explain it.
@@johnnychimpo7539Thats if it had flex fuel in there (Flex fuel would be able to read the fuel content) But its mostly stock so computer is none the wiser.
What a great achievement to get it turned around in a short space of time..Shame your having issues but blimey Matt you stay so upbeat even when things go wrong..we are all routing for you and the content is amazing Big up all crews❤

Love how Tony Mats Dad just laughs at everything that goes wrong, so funny id be worried sick but thats what’s makes the great content😊😊😊😊
Its just more content for them. And money is not an issue anymore. Yeah, for sure you are a bit sad if your project fails right before the show. But its completelly different if you would put your last money into it and do it just for yourself or like them, make a living out of all that, car working or not. If that happened to any of us it would be a tragic for them its just an adventure continuing.
God I love how both you and your dad are always smiling. Even when the worst of things can happen you guys always manage to keep a cool head and stay possitive. I have so much respect for that, I can olny aspire to be like that!
This never seems to be boring when watching your channel always some drama but I know you always come through with a plan a big thanks to Freddie for helping Matt out you are a true friend indeed and a big thanks to DDE for helping our boy out
I had a chance to talk with Mat, his Dad, and Hanna at SEMA. These are some of the most genuine people you will ever meet. When we talked, they were exactly as they are on camera. I applaud Mat for taking the Audi to cars n coffee and racing when many people would have played it safe and trailered it to SEMA! I look forward to their next adventure and will be a fan for life. Thank you for being real!!
Oh and I’m betting it was probably an ignition detonation issue related to the crummy low octane US fuel. I will be watching to see what they find.
Thanks so much man!!
@@JHickmanIII its the samee!!!! Aki 91 is same as ron 95 in europe.. they messure differently
@@quadmeister appreciate your comment, I was thinking that Mat’s car might be tuned with 98 in EU ratings and that would be 93 in US. Most stations around Cali are 91 so I was making an assumption. When I was watching the video it looked like the tip of the spark plug was burnt off and detonation with high boost could also cause that and a head gasket failure. I was just placing my “bet” early but I will be anxiously awaiting the tear down to validate the crow I will probably be eating for assuming. :)

First thing I'd do is remove all the spark plugs, and then put a boroscope down. You need to see what the pistons look like.

Nuts to me you found yourself in Bakersfield. Just found the channel a couple days ago and a Bakersfield native myself. You've single handedly inspired me to get into repairable vehicle restorations. I've always wanted a project car, but never once thought to look into wrecked cars.
I watched a DDE F12 video from 4 days ago where you came and saw Mike & Tim. I'm so relieved to see the RS6 driving and sounding great, I hope the fix was relatively easy going.
Ah dude mega gutted for you but yours and your dad’s enthusiasm to not give up is inspiring 🙌🏻💚
didn't even finish the video yet but saw you filling up the car with 91 aki (95 ron) in a tuned car, that's usually a bad idea lol. Tuned cars need octane if not you'll have engine knock and boom
This
100%
This is why there’s knock sensors - the ECU has the ability to dynamically retard the timing. Doubtful 91 caused this.
@@tyler141 the ECU can only protect so much, OEM it is fine as boost/timing is not so aggressive as it's meant to run everywhere in the world even with low octane. We are talking a tuned car here, with much more aggressive timing and boost. The ECU will indeed have retarded the timing extremely but due to the much more aggressive settings it wasn't enough to prevent damage. If you are in the tuning world you will understand this, it happens all the time when people are using wrong fuels in tuned cars. Datalogs will show the same thing.
Yeah, I literally paused when he was putting it in, 3:50 to see, 91Oct, oh damn :/

91 US rated fuel did it … thats around 95 RON … I bet you were tuned for 99+ (aka Shell V Power) 🙈
100% engine have detonate with the wrong fuel.
Exactly, dumbest stunt ever...even for 91/95 CA fuel is just crap. Running a highly boosted tuned engine on this stuff when it was tuned for proper fuel and then gun it down a runway... WTF did they think was going to happen
To be fair the lambdas and knock sensors should save the engine in standard form but if its been tuned with zero overhead its run lean and they need a new engine.
Ok but stop calling me Ron
Coolant in the oil, could be the PCV has failed and your mixing oil and coolant. We had it in S4. PCV is plastic and in middle of the V, under the supercharger in our car but has been RS6 issue too. Linked to your recall 😞
Was so glad we still got to see it at SEMA! Send us over the injectors so we can help diagnose the problem! Keep up the great work Matt
Love how you try and turn it over, nothing happens, all doom & gloom..... then that little chuckle from your old man is priceless
i'm not a long time viewer so I'm not sure of the backstory, but its really cool seeing Mat's dad involved and seemingly enjoying himself. I'm sure its not all smiles, life never is, but at least from the outside it seems like a brilliant relationship. Wish you lot all the best
Mat was like we just broke it And his dad was like No you broke it😂😂
Good luck from Australia. Great videos. Hope you get it sorted. Was the oil cooler working?
Check the charge cooler right after the turbos. If the RS6 had just recently under went the turbo oil screen recall, then the chargecooler would have been exposed. My guess is something punctured the charge cooler and while giving it the beans at WOT that thing must of blown open and released coolant into your intake manifold and subsequently your engine. Sad to see such a unique car go through such a thing. 4.0 C7 owner here btw, im torn 😢
Great video showing the ups and downs of project cars! The Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly seems like the result of over tuning and a valve dropping. Hopefully we learn from this and do reliability mods before big power mods🤞

I think you are right Mat about the 91 fuel, it looks like the electrode on cyl 2 spark plug has just melted. Also the presence of water in the other cylinders suggests the seizure was caused by the hydraulic pressure in the engine.
It’s 95 fuel
@@jonawilk91 in America is 95 in UK
Then it's a GARBAGE tune. No low octane table when the ECU detects knock and garbage fuel?
maybe that plus he doesn't use torque specs if i am not mistaken, so no surprise this happened.
Could be head gasket failure too from incorrect torque specs.
Love the way Both Mat and his Dad keep smiling and positive in the face of adversity exactly why this channel is sooo successful with nearly 2m subs 😱😱

Just caught up with this vid. So sorry to see you having troubles. Hope the mighty RS6 lives ! Keep positive guys!
Hi Mat, For the coolant on the Spark Plugs my tip is Headgasket being blown. Same with the melted overheated Spark plug. Although it could be not enough torque was applied on the melted one, but I think here it is like on the others thew head gasket, just that oen was maybe the first that blew. And like others pointed out, it can be to low octane rating on the fuel. With the mismatch in the fuel I thinbk the bets is replace the gasket and then recalibrate with a tuner, to accomodate the lower octane on the US fuel. I hope this helps and best of luck! :)
Love the collaboration between matt and Tavarish. Best ever
Hi Matt, I had a similar thing on my Rs3 8p; car was running just fine, I decided to to swap the OEM spark plugs for new NGK after market ones. Did the swap and drove about a kilometer and suddenly; lost of power and check engine light; stock engine.. Diagnostic: miss fire on cylinder 3. Removed the spark plug and it’s head was missing, and very wet; unburnt fuel, like the first one you removed from the RS6. I put the OEM ones back in and the car was fine. Start with the cheapest first; put a new set OEM plugs in and see what happens!!
Knowing you got it there I'm dying to see the next part!

+1 on the head lifting under too much boost. Subarus need head studs/ over sized when running nutty boost for that reason. The 91 will cause knock, the ecu should be able to account & reduce timing, if it doesn't adjust enough or not learned fast enough it could easily try to run too much timing & cause bad knock/ detonation/ pre-ignition
