I'm a big fan of Titanium smartphones, its a super cool metal. And I'm glad to see that both Samsung, and Apple are using the real stuff. Even if it is different grades of the Titanium material.
Samsung is using Grade 2 Titanium, and Apple is using Grade 5 Titanium.

I was actually pretty surprised that Samsung used less money for their titanium. I guess Samsung is getting more and more like Apple every day though so I'm not as shocked.
Yeah, I kinda assumed as much when they didnt come out and say the grade in any of their marketing. But its nice to know for sure!

Grade 2 is all titanium. Grade 5 is an alloy that also includes aluminum and vanadium (6% aluminum and 4% vanadium, which is why it's also referred to as Ti 6Al-4V). Grade 5 is harder; expect to see Grade 5 in higher-end manufacturing, while lower-priced options might use Grade 2.

Same. Actually was just thinking about the a couple days ago when I was planning to switch phones. I'm like why do they always put this here? Lol
Is the same applicable to s23 ultra. Co zz i totally did that aftr buying
It's not the first time that Zack is pointing this out in his videos. There's a video he did specifically also about what happens when u poke the microphone hole.
I still feel like plastic between the titanium and aluminum might help with shock absorption in case of a drop.
3:15 accidentally said S23 Ultra. who noticed it? 😅
Probably does. However bette maintainability and parts availability would make that redundant, e.g. you just replace the screen in 5 minutes for cheap (first party FP4 screen is £70, samsung could get their better screens down to likely half the cost given the much larger scale) if you happen to break it instead of the phone being super expensive in the first place as an attempt to make the screen less likely to break.
@@Bozebo Absolutely not. Fairphone 4 uses a shitty LCD screen with a resolution of 1080x2340 while Samsung uses AMOLED with a resolution of 1440x3120 and is capable of outputting 2600 nits and playback HDR10 content.
Not comparable, an amoled 120hz 1440p 2500nits and 100%dci-p3 coverage is a workd more expensive than a 1080p 60htz ips one 😊@@Bozebo
Yes, I agree, plastic frames always better absorb shock when dropped, and considering that Samsung mainly made phones with plastic frames, it would be strange that they would forget about this property
Love your vids man, keep it up!
4:07 I have. The top microphone hole on a blackberry key 1 is nowhere near the sim slot, but a lot of people have broken the microphone by thinking it was, including the one i got second hand. The issue is blackberry used a thin sheet of plastic to cover the top with just a flat hole, so you could easily damage the microphone.
7:51 Does this void the warranty?
Nah. Easily repairable
its hard to say for sure since most companies cover phones dropped in molten lava, but i personally wouldnt risk it
It's covered by accidental damage
please dont ever stop making videos like this, im out here geeking out😂😂😂😂😂
Pretty nuts how the titanium craze is just starting when the Essential Phone had this and a ceramic backside back in 2017
“Titanium is only applied on the device frame. Frame does not include volume and side keys.” 🤣
I had my retired essential phone in storage in case I needed some titanium and ceramic mouse pad😂
Bummer the essential didn't get a second phone not the weird remote thing they were trying to do. It was the best feeling phone I had.
Nokia had a titanium phone.
The essential phone was also one of the first bezeless phones with a whole punch in the center for the front facing camera if I remember correctly. I always thought their aqua phone with the gold frame looked beautiful
Thanks for clarifying the mic holes as I have done that few times. Keep up the videos and just great commentary

Man, that Olympus XRF readout showing element "LE" at 99.585%, at 6:55 threw me for a loop! For anyone else that cares, LE = Light Elements, such as Al, Si, Mg, S, Si, P, K, and Ca.
Would you mind ELI5? (Explain to me like I'm 5)
I think it just means that Titanium is considered a light element alongside the given examples. And that may feel strange
@@sugoish9461, he's scanning the 6061 Aluminum. On the screen where the it should show the periodic table symbol for Aluminum, it instead showed an acronym LE. The acronym is a catch all for Aluminum, Silicone, Manganese, Sulfur, Silicone, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Calcium. This is because those elements are so light it is hard for the Olympus XRF gun to tell the difference between those elements well, so it doesn't event try.
@@ferenclengyel4082 This readout was referring to the 6061 aluminum. The screen just after for the Titanium did show "Ti" in the readout.
