    • joe my students mostly struggle with side breathing so after they are able to kick and take 3 to 4 strokes properly . I show them the Ti superman position just to get the feel of getting of side rotation. Is it wise to ask them to use fins to help them get some speed so that they can breathe easily ...

  • Hi Joe, I am just in beginning of my training. I am 41 man and I usually like to play tennis a lot and weight lifting. I train 7-8hour /week 4h tennis 4h weight lifting. I been feeling lots of heelpain and shoulder pain from tennis so my goal is to swim as rehab. I am now on my 4hour learning freestyle 🤣. I started with laying on top of water like a ball holding my knees with my arms exhale out all air and sink to bortom of the pool (get the feeling of what happens to body after exhale) Press from the bottom up to the surface breath in above surfa breathe out under surface repeat 6x. Next excersize i lie on side and hold my both hands parallell to my legs and only kick 2-3x then breath 8*25m the goal here is to only to fokus on breathing without using hands, 3 drill I try to swim with 3 stroke freestyle then breath but I get tired, I Think reason is I exhale true mouth and not nose and also sometimes I feel stressed out when it is time to inhale I exhale I need to take is easier slow down the process 🤣. When i feel exhausted I turn on back inhale turn back to normal position. Breathing is most difficult I need to learn how to fill up air to diafragma 70% and take big inhale only smal but control the breathing. Breathing is the most difficult part. I FIGURE out that heavy breathing is causing stress and stiffness in body. I need to be relaxed all time and listen for the sound I find it also difficult to bend forearm. I saw you tip drag fingers on surfa e 👍

  • Well, I settled on a breathing pattern a long time ago, which is every other arm stroke. I did pretty much completely change my arm pull about a year ago, mostly due to 2 videos, one from Effortless swimming about getting full extension, and one from Swim Skills about 'shoulder shrug'. I had always thought I was getting a full extension, but after watching the one video, realized that I could still extend more without starting to snake through the water. The shoulder shrug one made me realize that I was starting to use my shoulder, back, and lats as soon as I started my catch. Proper way is to do the catch, then the 'set up' as the Effortless Swimming guy does, which is mostly getting your forearm vertical, and then engaging all the shoulder, back and lat muscles. It really changed my stroke. Still having to work on it though. Too many years of not swimming it correctly.

    • you have to gain some mileage in the pool. So swimming continuously for 30-45 minutes without placing feet on bottom. This will help to gain confidence in water.Additionally try to use a 2 beat kick and breathing on every other stroke on your favorite side so that you are relaxed. You should also be able to glide with every stroke. It will help to learn a survival breastroke if you get tired whilst swimming freestyle. In open water you have to do sighting to make sure where you going.

  • My struggle: I am a beginner swimmer. I was kicking fast lifting my head more for breathing and I was getting tired very quickly. May be after 30 - 35 meters I had to take a break for the next 25 meters. So my trainer introduced me to fins. It was really good. It helped me become comfortable in water. It helped my breathing a lot. Getting tired was completely reduced but with all these good something horrible happened as well. Now without the fins I cannot even move 5 meters. With fins I have no problem at all. Something has gone wrong in my muscle memory. How much hard I try I am unable to kick and move forward without fins. Is there some drill which can help me?

    @bennsolo@bennsolo Жыл бұрын
    • Hi, thanks for sharing. I know what you mean. I introduced fins to one of my adult male students who sank a lot and with the fins he was able to swim freestyle (still struggling to breathe though). I suggest you can build back your muscle memory by doing kicking drills without fins. Just kick on your belly, kick on your sides and kick on your back. It shouldn't take too long and your kicking should improve. Try stretching to add mobility to your ankles. Good luck

    • Hi, always try with shorter distances. Try 10m first then slowly work your way up

  • I am at beginner level and age around 45. It took much time in kicking and now learning hand movement but during that body balance is the issue. How do I improve and also learn hand movement?

    @jinalkumarpatel5138@jinalkumarpatel51389 ай бұрын
    • You can follow this video. I have explained how the hand movement works. Try wearing a pair of hand paddles too. They might help

    @chenpingngim7772@chenpingngim7772 Жыл бұрын
    • Try to consciously lengthen the leading arm as you pull the other one backwards. As you breathe the leading arm shouldn't drop but stay on the surface

  • Breathing : I swim fast but my breathing is not good yet. I catch my breath twice in 30 meter but not fully. Also I strained my shoulder muscle very bad. This has resulted in sore shoulder and surprisingly persistent headache for over 3 weeks now. Also any tip for breathing hasn't worked so far

    • Try to practice more relax when you are swimming. Shoulder ache could be due to straight arm recovery instead of high elbow recovery

    • @@Swimtopian thanks a lot. Outside water I know how to relax like deep breathing or observation in present moment. But inside water how do we make ourselves relaxed.

    • This is subjective. My preference is when I start pulling and my hand is almost below my chest I will do a quick turn to breathe

  • What is correct breathing timing?

    @kyawkyaw087@kyawkyaw087 Жыл бұрын
    • It depends on individuals. I prefer every 2 strokes 1 breathe but it will be good to do 3 strokes 1 breathe so i can turn both sides.

    • @@Swimtopian what I mean is, when should I turn my head for breathing? Beginning of pull phase or begining of recovery phase? Still struggling with breathing timing.

  • Problem with looking down is that you are liable to run into people. The other day I caught up with someone in the same lane and he became incandescent with rage, even though I did not actually touch him. I apologised, but to no avail. Later on I met him in the changing room and tried to make small talk about how many lengths he had done (at least 1500 metres, I would guess) But he wasn't having any of it and was still angry and stormed off, still in a rage.
