Beginning with her smash hit single, "Drivers License," 18-year-old Olivia Rodrigo is on a run that few singer-songwriters can even dream about, with her very first album, "Sour," debuting at #1 earlier this year. Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with Rodrigo about writing songs of heartbreak, and the value of therapy.

    • Brutal - Me 24/7 Traitor - I’ve never been in a relationship with anyone but friends could be traitors too Driver’s license - Again, never been a relationship and I still don’t have my drivers license (haha) 1 step forward, 3 steps back - A song I relate too so much with a few friends that are girls Deja vu - Relationship. again. never. But the song could also be used as a broken friendship where they move on with other people that are like me Good 4 u - r.a.n. same as with deja vu. lyrics could also be used to refer a close friend that’s abandoned you which has happened to me recently Enough for you - Had a crush on a guy but he told me he wasn’t gay or bi which left me heartbroken since I tried really hard to be all the things he likes, which is something I do when trying to get any of my crushes attention. I really was a stupid, emotional, obsessive little boy, arent i? Happier - r.a.n A song that’s nice but can’t really relate too since it’s very much a couple breaking up and finding new lovers Jealousy Jealousy - Another song that’s me 24/7 Favorite Crime - a good, but underrated song but the same situation as happier Hope ur ok - Everyday, I want to say to everyone I know, boy or girl, nice or mean, if they’re okay… I could never have the guts to tel them I love them. The lyrics in this song very much touch my heart. I do care about and question what’s going on in an old friend or classmate from school and to know if they’re okay and doing well after everything they’ve been through.

    • @@RocStarr913 Okay 1st of all not all her songs are about boys, listen to all the album, jealousy jealousy, brutal, hope ur ok, has nothing to do with boys.. 2nd That isnt even "hating on a boy", it's just expressing her emotions in songwriting. Writing ab how you feel is actually good and helps alot. 3rd, like she once said in an interview "i think all artist should be able to write about how or what they feel" without ppl creating crazy dramas all over the internet. 4th and last, it's actually not her fault that her breakup songs are the ones that ppl relate to mostly which is the reason why those blew up & are much more popular than the ones that arent about heartbreak. Which i already mentioned before (the non breakup songs) Oh and also stop trying to discredit a young talented women by saying she "sells records because of hating on boys" thats just messed up bro..

It's about validating a child's feelings and allowing them to feel it, while also teaching them how to express it appropriately. Frequently songs are written with a crew of people/writers brainstorming lyrics together & worked on in well-furnished studios...Many Great songs have come out both ways but a nice contrast here. I come from the generation who produced the best music in history, but I have never encountered anyone whose lyrics were so gut renchingly, beautifully authentic. I am married now … I just like how honest your songs are . Good Luck I wish you more success. BTW, My daughter (06 years old) likes to make video on Tiktok with your songs as background music .
