It’s wild that he went against a former title holder in only his fourth fight. One of the best resumes in modern boxing history.
De la hoya was a decorated amateur already
He fought top opponents always. He really doesn't get enough recognition.
@@dizzle.1983 facts
gold medalist man, he was all over the tv, so they wanted to cash in on the fame quick almost all of the olympic squad got the fast track
Oscar beat Mayweather jr too in my opinion. Since he wanted out of boxing ring, he didn't really care to contest it because he was already rich. He probably sold out.
Ok now I see why Floyd Mayweather jr hates Oscar de la hoya 😂😂😂
Not sure about that. Floyd Mayweather Sr. was Oscar's trainer at one time. Oscar called him the best trainer in boxing, hands down. Might be some bad blood, dunno.
He definitely whipped unc ass😂
The hate is the other way around.
Go watch Floyd in his prime

I knew he had a right jab but obviously a devastating left as well. Oscar was a terrorist in this weight class.
Indeed! Only guy to make Julio Caesar Chavez not come out of his corner.

Yeah Dela Hoya was the man, that took on all challenges & didn't duck nobody unlike coward canelo, Dela Hoya was a REAL MEXICAN!!
Lol the way the commentators were talking had me thinking Jeff was nearly 40, but he was only 28. Very impressive Oscar was fighting him in just his fourth fight.
They mentioned Jeff was 28. The commentator also started calling Jeff, Roger in the 2nd round. AND, they screwed up the compubox numbers in the 1st round, giving Mayweather credit for outlanding Oscar 18 to 9, when it was the opposite.

He looked 40 there😂😂
All the Mexican,, and out of country boxers get opportunities like this,,,,, it's ridiculous

Yeah this was long way off his prime too ,still had the training wheels on.
Yeah reminds me of Loma, I think its because they both had a deep amatuer resume, both including at least 1 golden medal from the olympics.
Lies
One thing about De la Hoya, he fought top boxers, and the guy was good. If he was young right now, he'd be champion .
When Gayweather said he'd take Oscar to school he meant in his car to UCLA so Oscar could lecture about destroying cocky, runaround fighters . . .
Did he lecture in his fishnet pantyhose and high heels?
The art of the game is hit without getting hit not take every shot to the face. This dumb ass opinion of running away shows a lot of people just watch the sport to see niggas hurt each other not box or showcase skills
The best fighters came out of the Sugar Ray, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, era. They were all warriors. I doubt Floyd could have beaten any of those guys in their prime.
Especially Hitman 🥊
Can the same be said for oscar?
Mostly almost had em in 3
De La Hoya had a hell of a career. Fought from 130 to 160. Won his first world belt in 94, fought old legends like Julio Cesar Chavez and Pernell Whitaker, and faced prime warriors like Trinidad, Quartay, Mosley, Vargas, Hopkins. Even after he came back from retirement he fought a prime Mayweather and Pacquiao! The Golden Boy truly lived up to his name.
Helluva career. Helluva fighter. Made great investments.

TopRank is all about giving the right but challenging fights to his fighters. This was his 5th fight, and waaay too young for Mayweather. Bob arum is a genius.
De La Hoya is at his best here.
Not even close. Oscar would get better. He had a long prime. Mid 90s to 2004. Still was a top fighter until the night he fought Pacquiao where he was drained and a walking skeleton. Oscar was in his prime most of his career but when that happens usually the ending is very sudden and abrupt. Nobody expected Pac to do that. Oscar was done before the fight started.
Now let's watch Floyd fight De La Hoya from 2007!
RIP to Mitch Halpern.
Jeff Mayweather moved to his left the entire fight never circling to the right. I’m surprised he didn’t get dizzy!😵💫 And I know that he was probably trying to avoid Oscar’s left hook which was inevitable. But you have to switch it up sometimes. Hands were entirely too low with barely any head movement. He was a sitting duck for Oscar De La Hoya’s over hand right all night.
4:52 the first round stats were horribly inaccurate. The worst I’ve ever seen.

Goes to show how rigged it was for the Mayweather's.
According to some experts ,old oscar did beat Floyd clise fight but a prime Oscar would of beat him more convincing
What experts? 😂 I had the same card as one of the judges. It was even going into the 9th giving golden boy (champ) the swing rounds. Than he got smoked rest of the fight. The crowd will throw you off, they cant see whats landing.
