As someone who was a kid when The Phantom Menace released, I really hope Ahmed Best gets all the love and support he’s ALWAYS deserved.
true
I just hope that someday poor Jake Lloyd can get the redemption he deserves.
Never had a problem with Jar Jar tbh, especially when they established more and more of his life and story in the various comics and clone wars series.
I Actually Have 2-BlackSeries Figures Of JarJar, The Original 1999 5-inch, BossNass, A JarJar Koosh-Ball, SEVERAL Different JarJar HappyMeal Toys, A JarJar Figurine From A BoardGame & MicroMachines Naboo/Gungan Battle Playset. Oh & A Big Talking JarJar Doll. So...I'M DEFINATELY A FAN.
The writers and producers, not Mr Best, deserve ire for the Jar Jar caricature. Ahmed Best is AMAZING!!!
I love the idea that Jar Jar was somehow involved in getting Grogu to safety.
He’s behind everything…. The dark lord surpreme
@@yoshiwaffles6682 yes he wants Grogu as his apprentice! Those fighters in episode 3 belong to him not Thrawn!
Jar Jar was probably the one that got Grogu captured
This is the way
Maybe he indirectly did. What if the Naboo ship belongs to him? What if those Naboo Guards directly answer to him?
They weren't just saving grogu, they were trying to get all the younglings out but grogu was the only one to make it. The guards even ask Beq where the rest are.
No Reva made it as well!
no lmao YES THEY WERE SAVING GROGU THE GUARDS ASK WHERE THE OTHERS ARE THAT CAN BE REFERRING TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE THE OTHER JEDI OTHER YOUNGLINGS WE DONT KNOW
@kookie monster grogu was with a group of other younglings at the start, they were moving a group of them. I took the senate guards asking "where's the rest" or whatever was referring to the rest of the younglings. But it can be interpreted however 🤷♂️
My read of that was that the guards were expecting more kids AND the Jedi who died.
@J C I like that too!
I'll never stop loving that Naboo ship. I've loved it since the prequels. So happy they brought it back and updated it
Reminds me of "flight of the navigator"
@@ryanhooper4587 legit
If you needed any other reason to love it, its manned with multiple T2 astromec droids. My thinking is that the smaller ones are for senators while the big one in Phantom Menace was specific to the Queen. There's also the really cool bomber looking version.
I love how in the flash back u can visibly see grogu looks a tad younger then when we first meet him
Well there is roughly 24 years between order 66 and season 1 of Mando
Im really glad that Ahmed gets redemption. The BS he was subjected to from the prequel era was unforgivable. Hes a good actor, glad to see his redemption as the savior of Grogu. 98% a perfect episode, the 2% is only because it was too short.
Redemption implies he’s done something wrong that he has to be redeemed from. This isn’t really a redemption, this is more of a vindication and triumph after years of unfair abuse from certain sections of fandom and media. If anything, it’s more some fans who need to find redemption for their behavior.
What redemption? He got paid to make a fool of himself and then received the backlash of those who would mock him in real-life. If he was a little bit wiser he'd have distanced himself from all of this, having learned a lesson, but he's right back in the middle of it again. I guarantee you that given time, they'll make a mockery of this scene too.
I think many Star Wars fans probably realized they went overboard / were out of line in projecting their dislike on the actor who basically had nothing to do with how lame Jar Jar was and I think the franchise is atoning for putting him in that position. IMO, he’s not particularly good in the role, but then again even really good actors usually seem cheesy in the role.
The first time I saw the Armorer and Bo-Katan in the same shot, I got a strong feeling that they have a history. I wonder if the armorer is a blast from Bo-Katan's past?
She's a Rook Kast from Bo-Katan's past😅😅😅
The Armor could be Bo’s third sister.
@@TamagoHead very true. Could def be Korkie's alleged mother ... 👀👀👀
If Grogu spent years hidden in the underwater city with Jar Jar it would certainly explain his taste for frogs.
“Do you wanna join the Death Watch🎵” really got me haha
They go through so much to protect Grogu... Starting to think he might be Yoda's son afterall.. lol!
Right
Well, we do only ever see a male and a female of his species before Grogu, in canon anyway. Possibly endangered?
It is strange how he had several guardians and a dedicated master to protect him. We know he's important to the empire for cloning purposes but I'm really wondering why the Jedi did so much to protect him during order 66... I suppose it could just be because his species is rare but I'm not certain.
@@stumbling_ yeah it's not like they put in Any effort to protect other younglings.
I think he was just the last youngling in the temple. Anakin kills the others and misses grogu because he wasn't in class due to his species weird aging.
How meta would be to have Jar Jar and Beq meet each other
Throw in Achk Med-Beq and that would be insane.
META
“There's always a bigger fish.” - Qui-Gon Jinn
The Armorer act suspicious, like she knew about the Mythossaur, when Bo told her.
I'm expecting a betrayal by the Armorer before Bo, honestly.
Grogu has a connection with animals, usually connecting them to his belly.
😂
So happy for Ahmed!!
Redemption implies he did something wrong, this is justice.
I was happy for Ahmed and I cheered when I seen that Carl directed. Such a gorgeous episode
I took "the foundling" to mean Bo, who has been adopted, and had donated armor made, just like the armorer talked about with Grogu
its both
@Colonel Sandurz they are speaking figuratively! As in Bo is being adopted into the covert
@@thedisablednerd007 Both? It's all 3. Ragnar, Grogu, Bo. They are all foundlings.
Always love to see Erik breaking down Star Wars and Marvel contents 👍
Im glad they showed how Grogu escaped the city during "Order 66". This episode was informative 💯💯💯💯💯
The thing about their jetpacks fuel is it actually makes sense, it's crazy advanced but it lasts way longer than what we saw. We saw it last for about 10 minutes maybe but only like 2 minutes or less on screen time. When you think about it though those jetpacks lasted a whole lot longer than that, they chased that thing all day until the sun was setting when their jetpacks lost fuel. So that's probably about 4 hours worth of fuel they had in there at least. In Clone Wars and Rebels we've seen jetpack sequences where they are in the air for very long amounts of time which make sense.
Disneyland Cast Members who ran the Jedi Training Academy are salivating over the chance of becoming canon now.
Crazy Theory== What if the armorer is the lost Crese sister? Remember Corky Crese? Who was his mother? Satine and Bo Kataan never had children. Corky was their nephew.
Ahmed Best deserved this so much!!!!
There was a bit of a Yoda callback in what the Armorer said. "Through the Force, things you will see." Seems like they have more and more in common with the Jedi.
I believe that Beq is taking Grogu to Alderaan. I think back to the Season 2 finale and Grogu was climbing Din’s leg until Artoo rocked up and they were like old friends. At least it gave me the impression they knew each other. My guess is they go to Bail and somehow Artoo ends up hiding Grogu as Beq sacrifices himself.
Biologist here: my justification of why Ragnar was dry/not covered in acid like Boba had been is because birds have basically another stomach in their neck that doesn't have as much acid. It's pretty much a sack in the esophagus that they can store stuff in. Should still be damp, but won't be dissolving the kid as much as the Sarlac would have.
I was cheering for ahmed the entire time he was on screen man I was so hyped I hope we see more of him in the future.
Ahmed deserved it! He is underrated
Din is the silent type because he believe in the saying "one does not speak unless one knows" In conclusion - Din knows nothing He is now the Jon Snow of Star Wars
take your crown, MA KWEEN
I think Padmé saw the temple burning and called the guards to go help the Jedi. I don’t think they were there strictly for Grogu
My first thought when I saw the ship :(
Aww makes me sad to think that
Probably, I mean they did ask Kelleran where were the others.
@@samantaluna3870 "there are no others" 😩💔🏳️
@@samantaluna3870 Could have meant the other Jedi protecting Grogu. Could have meant the other younglings. I think it's too early to say. They may clear it up later. But my first thought was the other younglings.
It's a bit of a reach to say that Grogu specifically was known to Beq or that there was a specific plan just for him. It's _way_ more likely that the Jedi had an evacuation plan to get as many Youngliings as possible out, probably based off a generic evacuation plan that they had for the temple in case of emergency. Much like a fire drill (or, unfortunately here in the US, an active shooter drill) at a public school, they had plans to get the kids to an outside location for exfil...the difference here is Beq had to audible to get to a ship offsite because it was the military that was attacking so any planned evacuation wasn't going to come. That also explains why the Clone Troopers knew where to go to intercept Beq and Grogu. We even hear the senate troopers asking where everyone else is.
While I can't speak to Kelleran knowing Grogu before this, the plan did seem specifically for him. I don't think they'd dedicate that many Jedi to protect one youngling and then have Kelleran specifically meet up with senate protection troops if it wasn't just for Grogu. The timing was too perfect.
This. Yes. Thank you. It was not a save grogu mission, it was a save next generation plan
@@MDCxThePG in Obiwan we saw that there were lots of Jedi in the temple, as would be expected. Clearly the Jedi also had a plan to evacuate the Younglings, just like a school has a plan for Fire Drills, so Jed's defending the hallway with the elevators to the exfil location is hardly surprising. The idea that they had a special plan for one kid and left the other hundreds to fight for themselves is also unrealistic. Clearly they reached out to someone and got outside help to evacuate once they realized it was clone troopers attacking, but we saw that the Senate Guard was expecting way more Younglings.
That's proven when the pilot asks "Where are the others?" Kelleran says, "There are no others." It was probably for various younglings but Grogu was the only one that they saved that way.
I’m sure they wanted to save as many as possible, but a young (whatever his species is called) was very likely a top priority, which is why he had three Jedi with him.
I don’t think it was so much about saving specifically Grogu, but more so about just saving anyone he could.
I got goosebumps watching this episode. Best episode of tv in years. Easily.
The 3 dots of paint that Grogu hits Ragnar with are in the same pattern as the Predator's laser targeting system. I wonder if it's a callback from Carl Weathers, since he directed this episode and starred in Predator...
FYI this area is called Lake Powell it's near the iconic Horse Shoe Cliffs and the Rainbow Arch. The area is worth seeing at least once in your lifetime and as a bonus. Much of the lake tourism stuff is run by the Navajo so you would be helping the native economy by visiting.
Uh, gotta make a correction. Sentinel, Consular, and Guardian aren't ranks those are more like sub classes. The ranks are Youngling, Padawan, Apprentice, Knight, Master, Council Member, Master of the Order, and Grandmaster.
Came here to say exactly this!
Who’s the master of the order? Mace windu? Was obi wan on the council?
@@burner-pp7bs at the time of the clone wars, the position of Master of the order/Master of the Council was held jointly by both Mace Windu and Yoda. Also, Yes Obi-Wan served on the council.
I laughed so loud at "Do you want to join the Death Watch" that I scared my dogs lol
0:19 I hope we see more of him in future star wars
I'm so happy for Ahmed. He is the hero this world needs. I can't wait to see what happened next with him and Grogu!
Grogu just wanted to play with rocks haha😅
It's interesting that despite the Armourer advising not to use explosives or blasters as this would risk the Foundling's safety, Paz still took his heavy repeating blaster. That suggests that he was prepared to retaliate once Ragnar was secure. It makes me wonder if this loose cannon nature could present itself again in the future.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that automatically quoted "there's always a bigger fish" in my head when that happened haha
All in all, an excellent episode - I love learning more about the Mandalorian culture and their traditions.
I didn’t want this episode to end. It’s like watching the Mandalorians operate as a team is “the way.”
Just a thought, what if the people Din goes after to find Grogu are protecting him. What if Din has set in motion the events in Episodes 7,8, and 9. Grogu become Snoke or is used to help clone the Emperor. Grogu has been on that desolate planet for 20 years, in what looks like good condition. Perhaps they were trying to hide him from the Empire.
Happy tears for Ahmed Best! Welcome back! Love you!
Anyone else realise that the final shot in every episode so far in this season is of Bo-katan?
Damn you are so right. 👀
ManBolorian
i think that its really interesting that all 4 episodes so far ended with Bo-Katan in the scene... idk what this means but it's really interesting
This is why I always watch your things you missed because I had caught everything you pointed out except the translations as always and the Armorer Sterling in at the end. Thank you señor Voss
2 things I thought of watching this episode. First, shooting at the water made me think of firing Kamehameha at the ocean. And the animals attacking, reminds me of the animals of Mandalore they tamed, not just the mythosaur
This was a damn fine episode
I made the Jurassic World connection when I watched the episode myself. Good stuff, Voss!
I always come to your breakdowns for things I’ve missed and also I’m not a big SW fan but I freaking love The Mandalorian. Thank you
Awesome performance by Ahmed Best...I look forward to learning more about his character. Loved the light saber work.
Not "redemption," but rather, vindication and justice. Redemption implies a sin or evil on his part, while vindication implies clearing someone of blame or ridicule. Anakin was redeemed. Ahmed Best was vindicated. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
I don’t think Grogu learned the jumps from Luke. Luke said to Ashoka that he wasn’t teaching Grogu as much as he helping him remember (I paraphrased)
It's subtle but it's ironic that the Armorer sounded the most skeptical being the head of the clan. Din: This is the way. Paz: This is the way! Armorer: This is the way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
2 things I'm noticing: 1) is the forge/the living waters CAUSING flashbacks? Maybe the process is not just making the armor but also a meditative type "growth' 2) the light side is always shown being close to living creatures or animals. I assume Grogu being surrounded by living creatures means he's still very connected to the force and it's going to come up more.
I find it hilarious that they let Grogu sit at the edge of the lake knowing that there is a murderous croc dinosaur in there... Kelleran and Grogu need a spinoff series.
I think a key detail you missed was Grogu hesitant, until Mando told him to do his thing.
Yup. He doesn't want to use violence/the force unless absolutely necessary.
Grogu shares a connection with animals, and so does Ezra Bridger
Exactly!
I mean I think a padawan and apprentice are the same thing, and sentinel, guardian, and consular are just types of jedi from the old republic video games I think the jedi order only has the rankings of youngling, padawan, knight, Master
This is correct. In Legends, Guardian, Sentinal, or Consular is the path a Jedi Knight or Master chooses, and typically is indicated by the lightsaber color. Guardians (blue) focus on their skills with a lightsaber. Consulars (green) focus on their mastery of the Force, and Sentinals (yellow) balance the two perfectly (yellow=green+blue).
11:00 Also, I recognized their blaster sounds are the same as the Naboo security forces in Phantom Menace.
Yoda, Yaddle, and Grogu all doing flips is because their small stature makes them perfect for Ataru/Form IV, the most acrobatic, aggressive, and melee intense of the 7 lightsaber forms. Being maybe 3ft tall and weighing next to nothing makes them insanely hard to hit in a fight when they're just cartwheeling all over the place. Anakin used this form as well and might've had a better go against Obi-Wan if he was like a foot shorter.
I totally missed that Armorer peering over at the end. That's why I watch your channel Erik. You are so insightful.
"Do you want to join the Death Watch?" had me dying! lol!🤣
Lolol "do you want to join the death watch?" Still laughing & yes I do
This episode was phenomenal! I love the return of Ahmed Best, the creatures were great, action was gripping, many of the shots were interesting, meaningful and dynamic, the Mythosaur exchange between Bo and the Armorer. And Grogu is so adorable! I just can't with this much Grogu!
I hope that Christopher Lloyd’s character is the one who rescued Din when he was younger
I'm hoping Christopher Lloyd's character is Klingon Commander Krug!
Props for allowing Jar Jar to redeem himself as a Jedi. Although I would’ve loved to have seen a Darth Jar Jar movie.
He is behind everything and still is
I look forward to these every week, thanks
I hope Bo finds a way to unite the mando clan, not end up fighting anyone from it. For me, would be a much more satisfying arc versus the armorer being a surprise villain and just having a classic battle between them with Din as well.
I'm glad Ahmed got to be so important. I liked seeing his saber skills, too.
I literally made that bigger fish comment when the raptor become food 😂😂😂
I didn’t realize who that was!! I’m so happy to see him back!
One of the best episode's of Mando so far
Now I wish it was really Jar-Jar. It would be so much of a redemption for the character and Ahmed.
Jar Jar couldn't even tie his shoes - and they were velcro
Kyrimorut is also Mando'a for "Death's Head," so an appropriate name for an ominous mountain range.
I really felt like the armorer was almost gaslighting Bo katan at the end about the mythosaur, why else would the armorer send din to the living waters?
Din went because that's the ritual their sect believes in. Bo had 0 influence on that decision and really only lucked into joining because Din needed saved. I doubt that was some scheme the Armorer crafted, it's too reliant on luck and happenstance
"Do you want to join the death watch" Thanks homie I had a really bad shift today at work and that made me laugh for the first time today
Ahmed Best got one hell of a Galactic Glow-Up
3:20 “do u want to join the death watch”had me cackling
Been refreshing all day waiting on this 😅
Can’t wait for the deep dive on this episode
The Armorer called Bo-Katan a cautionary tale. Can you say Trust Issues?
I noticed when watching this episode, that when mando is behind grogu in the training spot, he just stands their and moves his arms as if he is talking to someone, but there seems to be no one. It looks like an npc.
I love how it always comes back to There’s always a bigger fish line 😂🤣
I just watched it and I legitimately did not know Kelleran was Ahmed Best! I’m so happy for him! I thought Kelleran was awesome and he’s even more so now that I know Ahmed was playing him!
Perfect timing I just finished it less than five minutes ago.
“Do you want to join the Death Watch?“ 🎶😂🥰
Thankyou for waiting till Thursday to post this for us who work stupid hours on Wednesdays 🎉❤
I love that it was Kelleran Beq and that they cast Ahmed Best as the role. I hope he gets more attention in other stories. A wonderful choice on the show's part.
Do you wanna join the deathwatch? Bahahaha that had me crying laughing 😂 great job with that one.
"Do you wanna joined to the death watch" 😂😂😂
I’m always lost & found when Voss videos drop.
this was such a fun and good episode!!! gave the fans so much
ahmed best was such a treat to see, i hope we get to see more of him
Those rock crabs don't know what the frogs know about grogu....
"Do you wanna join the Death Watch" ahaha I died
3:20 this is cinematic gold
