Good luck! you two are doing a grand recovery job. Your talent and your ability to work with a smile will get you anywhere you want to see yourself in any recovery job & making others happy & wanting to become part of your team.
Thank you so much!
I hope you guys know that you always tighten head bolts in the proper sequence starting in the middle and crossing from side to side. It's usually not a good idea to reuse the old head bolts because they stretch out of spec over the many hours of heating and cooling of the engine. Always and I mean always use a torque wrench and it's best to torque down each bolt using a third of your target amount, then two thirds, and finally your target amount. These old engines of that era were seldom very high compression so head gaskets could be used over a time or two as long as they weren't eaten away from corrosion. Wish you the best and I am glad to see you use the old engine and not replace it with a modern one. I'm a purist when it comes to originality.
Purist. Bs.
Wtf do you know. Carcraft? Hrm? Ya don't know shit.
That old flat head 4 is in really good shape. If you're restoring the car use that motor. If you're making a rod, then stick in a small block V-8 Chevy and 4 speed transmission. Cheers from eastern TN
your not wasting your time its great to see it all original good work guys
Model A Fords are positive ground. The rotor on the distributor is adjustible so you can time the spark. There is a bolt on the timing cover that has a point facing out, when you remove this bolt and stick the point side inand rotate the engine until the point goes in a little further will be where # 1 cylinder is top center then adjust your rotor to match #1 wire. Should be very close, at that point you can adjust timing advance with the linkage on steering column.
All of the keyboard/internet mechanics on here are hilarious. When it is your car do it the way you want but this one is theirs. For instance I took my original 28 and dropped it on a custom frame and then ran an LS6 with an automatic transmission so let that twist your panties for a bit. Good job guys. Keep making videos.
I dont think that you're wasting money and time because practicly you can't kill this enginge. I wish you best luck with this incredible nice car. Best wishes from Austria.
This girl is history so make her nice. 😊😊😊
There used to be a yellow cover hardback book , I believe by Dan Post , for the Ford Model A service bulletins. Find a copy of that and it will explain all technical aspects, repairs, etc that will be needed to do your car correctly. Best of luck
They are fun to drive all original. It’s like a big go cart just slower.
I've worked on them. She''ll run. Lots of resources and specs on them.
clean all the head bolt threads firs, then tighten bolts from the center out to the end to proper torque specs
there is a bolt head on the timing cover that has a rounded part on it(different from the other bolt heads on the timing cover)if you take it out and put it back in its hole (rounded part first) and hold it in with your finger ; then slowly turn the crank- you will feel a "bump" as goes around ; right where the bump is felt is top dead center on piston #1...that is how you can get your timing and position for the dist. rotor ,etc(you might have noticed that there is no timing marks on the crank pulley)...good luck! .....Rainman
Hey thanks for the heads up! were have to do that and get it timed just right!
It's not a waste of time it's history man
Buy a torque wrench they are cheap
The third head bolt/stud on the drivers side also holds down a bracket that secures the armored ignition cable.. without it in place you can't fully tights that stud.
Oh thanks for letting us know, we will have to look into that!
that is a positive ground system.
Man this is hard to watch, using old head bolts, no torque wrench, I hope y’all go back and do it right and restore it to original! 😂 do research! Lol
Its an old farm vehicle and would have been worked on by farmers, so tbh it likely would have had this sort of treatment in the first place. Not sure if you've been around many farms, but farm boys are handy as hell.
Hate to tell you this now, but you should never reuse the head studs or nuts. Best to buy new ones. Hard to get good torque readings on the old ones.
It's not too late for you to remove and replace all the old head studs and nuts. That way, you'll get accurate torque readings (about 55 foot/pounds). And you won't risk messing up the new head gasket.
What torque readings? This whole thing is hard to watch for so many reasons.
@@garyroth2764 They didn't mention the torque readings; I did. Some videos are better than others, I agree.
I always run a tap in all the threaded holes to clean them up and get a accurate torque
Is the unseen lady part of your team? Good luck you are doing a grand recovery job, Good luck to you. Your talent and your ability to work hard will get you anywhere you want to see yourself in life & making others happy & wanting to become part of your team.
This car is in the wrong hands!
those spark plugs rarely wear out and are rebuild able
We are watching dumb and dumber auto repair trying to repair a 28 ford model a
Yeah pretty much sums it up! LOL
@@MuddyRascals - what are you doing. Never use reproduction parts on a vintage car. It’s criminal what you have done
@@dghkjfgiig6978 When it is your car do it the way you want. This one is theirs
there's a torque sequence when reinstalling a head.
Your brilliance is amazing.
I posted a link today
I love old cars.
yeah they are pretty neat!!
as the piston lowers the 🐗 board tapers so rings return to natural size widening the gap in them allowing more liquid to pass by them
As for timing, sleeperdude timed one you need a special tool if I remember correctly. Amazing find!!
Thanks for the tip!
A good source for engine specifications is hemming motor news I would look on line for an auto repair manual for the 1928 _1931 model a Ford
Setting the timing was demonstrated by Paul Shinn - kzhead.info/sun/osV8ipmkeWt7fWw/bejne.html - he's done dozens of "how to" videos on the Model A. Suggest that you subscribe. Will really help with your 28 roadster resurrection.
Frick n Frack
you should be soaking any other nuts, bolts etc now rather than waiting until later, ie head lights fasteners, fuel tank etc.
don't forget it's positive grounded
Guys after you have assembled the motor run it for 5 minutes then retention the cylinder head ,,if you don’t it will cause the gasket to leak
Don’t forget it’s positive ground
Model A's are positive ground.
After 94 years, all of the people this car could have ended up with...
there's a tray drivers side with a rod and bracket attached to the frame above the battery
Did you even look up how the sequence of putting the bolts in and turning them down in to the right tork?
make sure you positive ground engine frame to complete circuit
That car may have been hid away and left there because of having possibly being the get-away car in a bank robbery. That might also explain the hole in the rear left trunk area. That lean-to shed was built to hide it. The seats were possibly striped of all absorbent materials to eliminate the blood of the robber who was probably shot in the left back side area, and through the trunk.
There is a pin you take out distributor turn it round it has a locating slot in it So it time is it look on Vice grip garage he did it so the timing is in the correct position
What is that spray for?
the cable from the negative post of the battery to the starter switch should be a 6-volt cable. Looks like your "loaner" is a 12-volt. Get the right cable from your auto parts store. Also, looks like your start switch (which is an early 1928 square model), may be faulty; you may need a replacement (which won't look exactly like the original but will work fine.
The wooden floorboards are original, Henry Ford. Used the wood from the motor crates etc, he wasted nothing in building of his vehicles
It is a 6 V system and it’s positive ground
6V positive ground battery right?
From the factory, yes. Fords were 6V positive ground until 1956.
Contact Paul Shinn on his KZhead channel. He knows the "secret handshake" to start vintage Model A Ford.
your gasket is upside down you can see inside the block you'll have a leak
The who is married is the one talking the most
Don’t rat it out. It’s all original, it’s worth a fortune. Restore it back to original.
Don’t think they are listening. They are putting reproduction parts in the car. It’s so wrong
Hey guys go check out Johnathan W on KZhead in some of his older videos he did just what your doing with a 28 . He has several videos you should find helpful. He has on showing how to rebuild the sparkplug back then you didn't replace them you rebuild them . Anyway go check him out look at his videos from 2or 3 years ago. I went back and watched them all
It will probably run even without much expertise involved. In reassembling it.
I never used a torque wrench In my life.
😁👉 hello use the original parts restore bit by bit you can get parts from old business that carries them I know off of American pickers.
Too late. They are not listening. If you want to wreck an old car then they are going about it the right way. Never use reproduction parts on a vintage car
Watch one is married
I think that's actually is a model A shay
Yes, you should paint stars and bars on the top.
You guys should at least use a torque wrench and follow the correct sequence of tightening the head bolts… you are risking warping/ cracking the head, or blowing the new gasket again..
Sad to see such a great subject for professional restoration in the hands of a couple of amateurs. Their treatment of this lovely old car has been heavy handed and careless right from the start.
They’re young guys having fun and figuring it out on a car they got for free. I doubt it’s in their budget to get it professionally restored at this point. I’d much rather see them work on it than let it sit and collect more dust.
You should have pulled it out and tore the motor completely down and vatted it . Then put it back together
I can not believe what they are doing to this car. They are using reproduction car parts. That is criminal
what's happening to this car is criminal............. Just one man's opinion..
Be shire you put pos. To ground when you hook up cables.
It don't take much to make those motors run.
yeah hopefully your right!
I hate to tell you that it's not a motor it's a engine
The coil is the secret ingredient. It wouldn’t run without the secret coil. The coil was invented by Martian’s in outer space , if they don’t send coils, we wouldn’t have cars,
Did you guys actually ever hear of torque wrenches? You can destroy that head and engine by bolting that head on snd warping it!
These happy chaps Do Not Read the comments. They take no advice....so just grit yer teeth and listen to the nails on the chalkboard.
If you are waiting on comments to tell you what to do you are lost
Nice to see enthusiasm - but you should adhere to some basic principles of auto-engineering... one of the most obvious being the use of a torque wrench, and tightening nuts in the proper sequence. Quite a few other indiscretions that make me wince a bit, but perhaps considering that this project is for your personal satisfaction, careful attention to detail probably does not matter. My view on this lovely old clanger is to try to keep it as original as possible, and not go too far on restoration. Part of the appeal of many barn finds is the "patina of age", and some collectors PREFER these gems to be relatively un-touched - and will pay good money for a classic like this, largely left in the condition in which you found it.
Definitely a '28 judging from the red steering wheel.
You guys are goofy
Are they gay?
Which one is dumber?
were still trying to figure that out lol
Love watching your videos one thing that is annoying is you keep going to time laps it really anoying trying to see what you're doing and you go there time lap
Thanks for the tip
Where is the part 4
it will be coming shortly!!

Family history
The more I watch, the more it looks like I'm watching Beavis And Butthead. I don't know why I watched them, but I expected them to do something meaningful, but it doesn't make sense ... they don't know what they own or what to do with it! Lost time with this video ..
You seem like really nice guys, but you are way over your head. Like they say the engine is so simple it is impossible to destroy unless you use the wrong bolt tightening pattern, or the wrong grease, or the wrong wires, or the wrong gaps, or the wrong...Are you putting on an act, do you really know cars? Sometimes you can't tell. Do you realize the car is money!!!!! You could start a college fund or at least trade with a car collector for a different runner. This is museum-worthy. The rims you took off are an example. The S you put on are horrible. The seats you plan to use are ticky-tacky. Every video makes me more desperate to want to parachute in and rescue this tortured car from its kidnappers. The pick-up next to the car was a great find too. Did you check the other garages for the remaining original parts? The top and any interior or engine parts? Always a necessity when you find a car like this. Also, the shed roof you left was extremely dangerous. Did you support it or take it down for the lady? If not you left a hazard on the site she is unaware of. AAurgh!! I can't take it anymore.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING, WRECKING A VINTAGE CAR. USE ORIGINAL PARTS NOT REPRODUCTION.,YOU ARE SHOCKING PEOPLE
No what are you doing. You are wrecking that car by using reproduction parts
