Khamzat Chimaev was born in Chechnya, Russia on 1 May 1994, and is a prominent mixed martial artist. He is a Swedish-born Russian, has a Swedish passport, but is ethnically Chechen. He has a dear mother, who is a homemaker, who steps into his family history. With Artur Chimaev, Khamzat grew up. However, his parents’ information is under limelight. At the age of five in Chechnya, Chimaev began his wrestling. He was later awarded a bronze medal at the Russian junior level National Championships. At the age of nineteen, in 2013, he and his mother emigrated with his older brother to Sweden.
Chimaev wrestles with several clubs, for example the BK Athén, after moving to Sweden. He has won the Swedish Freestyle National Championships 2016 & 2017 at a pace of 86 kilograms and 92 kilograms in 2017 as one of the country’s best freestyle competitors. Chimaev has had a string of dominant tournament results with a 12-0 record, consisting of three pins, seven technical falls and a total score of 105 points, while giving up just two on his own, in all three of his showdowns.
Chimaev had three amateur MMA fights between September 2017 and April 2018. The former of those who defeated it in the second round was against eventual IMMAF World Champion Khaled Laallam. After two amateur struggles, one by presentation and another by technical knockout, he secured his amateur career with a record of 3-0.
On 26 May 2018, Chimaev became professional against Gard Olve Sagen in International Ring Battle Arena 14. In the second round, he won the fight by technical knockout. The next fight against Ole Magnor took place in Fight Club Rush 3 on 18 August 2018. Late in the first round of the competition he won with a rear naked choke.
In a middle-weight fight on 16 July 2020, Chimaev made his promotional debut on Dusko Todorovic, replacing John Phillips at UFC on ESPN 13. In the second round, he won the fight.
On July 25, 2020, Chimaev faced worldwide newcomer Rhys McKee at UFC in ESPN 14, 10 days after the fight against Phillipp. In the first round he won the fight by technical knockout. He received his Night Bonus Award in his second performance.
The main event of the UFC Fight Night 183 on 19 December 2020 was scheduled for Chimaev to challenge Leon Edwards. Meanwhile, in the UFC rankings, Chimaev was added to #15. It was announced on 29 November that Chimaev tested COVID-19 positive and the attack was declared a threat. Edwards also tested positive for COVID-19 on 1 December, followed by a postponement of the battle. On 22 December, the fight was reprogrammed at UFC Fight Night 185 for 20 January 20, 2021. Afterwards, on December 29, Chimaev left the competition for his own recovery from COVID-19.
