$70M Superyacht vs. World's Most Dangerous Bridge
We will show you the world-famous Simpson Bay Bridge and why it is so dangerous. Located on the island of St Maarten, this bridge has fouled some of the most experienced captains. Watch us sail through the narrow opening as we drop off our season's first charter! Does Paul hit it? Watch the video to find out! Sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's video!

Thanks for watching hope everyone found this video to be entertaining and informative. Blair and the whole crew did a great job putting this video together. We appreciate everyone’s support of our channel please let us know in the comments below if you have any questions you’d like answered. See you next week 🤙
Oh, Captain Paul. You made it look easy 😁. I do have a few questions, but they're not regarding this video, so I'm not sure if I should throw them in here.
caotain paul how long have you been a captain..great content
Great editing. It was like being there
Captain Paul has been through that bridge "50-60 times", so I'd say he's been doing this for awhile. Good job, Captain! Love these videos (Blair)! Great footage!
Nice driving dude!
2 Drones , 5 Gopro's , 1 360 camera and 1 Mirrorless camera to create this rad little video ! Hope everyone enjoys it !
Good job on the video production, Blair.
Crushed this one Blair as you only had 1 take to get all the footage. 🔥
2 Drones because one went in the sea? 🤣 Great work on another amazing video!
It was excellent!
Great work.
The days where the Captain really earns his pay! I doubt I will ever step foot on a superyacht, either as crew or passenger, but at least I can live vicariously through this channel!
Well said.
I ,I sailor 😊
So many friendly captains and crew in Simpson Bay, just hang out in the yacht club and you'll get to sneak around onboard.
Such a great and calm job you've done. I remember stepping up on a bigger boat 30 !!!😢 years ago in Italy and we bought it in Porto St. Magherita at first it was soo scary going in and out the marina through the bridge and we had as well just a bit below 1m each side. Scary, until you get used to it, but the scariest were other boaters on smaller crafts need to rush in front of you just before the bridge. Again, great job from you and youre crew on such a big yacht, my pants would be full
If you may increase your odds a bit more ...cuz if you can imagine that I got aboard twice as a deaf standby stranger, you can speak with anyone, but I don't! I was lucky twice.
Shout out to you capt. Paul for showing how you feel about a situation on camera, staying professional and human, hat off to you.
In case someone wants to know the accidents in the video: Ecstasea 280ft - Dec 15, 2019 BACA 142ft - Jan 8, 2023 Go 253ft- Feb 24, 2021
Money cannot buy true happiness but it can buy a 300 foot yacht and you can sail up right next to it. excellent work crew
It’s a pleasure watching someone doing something that is very difficult and make it look easy - no drama!
Thats the best hurricane protection I have ever heard of.... 365° you say? That 5° more than I have ever seen in my life!!!😁 As far as the ship handling. Well Done.
Had to check the comments section as soon as I heard that one. If it can happen even to a superyacht captain I'll feel better if I ever make such a mistake myself :P
It's hurricane protection that's good for 360 days a year! 😜
That was crazy! I thought we might see applause from the onlookers onshore! Great job, I'm impressed
We went through the early morning bridge to avoid the 5pm opening crowds. Just incase. The few people at the Yacht Club gave us an applause. 🛥🥂
Was thinking the same.
Imagine having commute to your work or an emergency and you had to wait till this rich kid get his toy moved around…there was a big traffic jam…
@@johannesfranck1770 I didn't see a single vehicle waiting at the bridge. Also, having lived near a draw bridge before, it's just something that happens occasionally and isn't a big deal. You turn your car off for maybe 6 minutes and then you go.
@@erikgriswold5273that bridge makes for huge traffic jams you ever been there? They actually built a 2nd big bridge for this purpose. I enjoyed the vid but I grew up there and imho these boats ruined the island. That "great harbour" was actually a pristine lagoon.
That was crazy! I was holding my breath the whole way. Kudos to Capt. Paul and the crew for such an amazing job!!! Thanks for sharing that with us!!
The first time I have ever heard nerves in Paul’s voice! I can only imagine how nerve wracking this is even if you’ve been through 50+ times on smaller vessels. The moment you don’t show of respect is when you bin it. Great job!!!!!
One of the best episodes I’ve seen. And that’s why the owners of these superyachts source super experienced captains, respect.👊 Great footage and editing and loving Captain Paul’s ‘Costas’!😎
I’m from St. Maarten and own a Vip transport company and I will have to honestly say I appreciate my work a lot more and everyone in the season just seeing this from a different angle is incredible.... my hat off to you and the crew 👑🦍🙏🏾
why dont these billionaires get together and pay to make the bridge wider easy fix
You have to get what looks like the Hilton Hotel to give up that piece of real estate, even if they can still be open. And those folks at Hilton, are no pushovers.
Easier to collect fees to the muncipality and work opportunities whenever the crash into it.
It's called greed
Killer footage Blairy! 👏 And well done Paulo - drove Loon like a boss through that bridge!
This is the video that got recommended to me by YT that made me discover your channel. So glad I found it as I had to binge watch all your older videos. Thanks for the great content.
Wow. What a great video. Accurately captured the drama of that tight squeeze. Made me grin when Capt. Paul referred to the stern of the ship as the 'bum'.
Thanks for sharing, look forward to seeing more of your travels and adventures.
I realized as you cleared the bridge, I had a huge smile on my face. Well done Capt. That’s not an easy passage, lots of opportunities for failure. Now you still need to get out of the harbor. Good luck and Stay safe Loon.
I am really enjoying this series, especially seeing all the crew, including the captain. I like seeing the captain talking to the camera about decisions, then briefing the staff, then those staff going and doing the actual jobs. I feel like I'm seeing the whole process of crewing the big boat, not just one person or role.
Very interesting and tense video! I love these "working" videos where we get to witness things like this. I hope you guys can also give us a run-through on how you prepare for charters, like previsioning, requests etc.
Good job everyone. Loved how all the crew where on deck helping. Having the drone to see what was happening was amazing.
What do you think the crews job is? Lol
Wonderful video, I'm from Sint Maarten and also been in and out that bridge more times that I count but never had such a beautiful view as this video. Awesome job captain Paul and crew.
Nice work, Captain....certainly had my heart rate elevated!
Blair fabulous video filming. Capt Paul awesome boating skills. Looney crew did a great job standing by waiting for the buoys to be needed. Yes beautiful, protected marina! Looking forward to next video
Great Job Capt Paul. Wow. That was crazy. Nail biter 😮
Thank you Loon. Thank you Paul and the entire loon crew. My wife and I have been watching your videos with interest since you began your channel. This last year has been very challenging for my wife who has been undergoing the severe ups and downs of chemotherapy and watching the activities of Loon and her crew has been a delight. It has brought us both a great deal of joy. Thank you. Merry Christmas. Hope 2024 is your best year yet to everyone.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad that our videos have brought you and your wife joy during this challenging time. We appreciate your support and wish you both a Merry Christmas and a fantastic 2024! 🛥🥂
Still fascinating seeing vessels like M/Y Loon go through the bridge each time.. Way to go Captain and Crew !
Wow! Just wow! Great job and very fun to watch, as always. Love to everyone on Loon❤
You guys nailed this video!!! Won’t surprise me if it becomes the most watched on the channel. Great job Paul & Team. Blair - Great editing and music selection for the intensity, you got me anxious. Well done.
Thanks, Tristan. It means a lot. Are we going to see you in Antigua?
@@motoryachtloon We will be in SA during the Antigua show, so unfortunately won't see you guys. Keep up the great work
See.. Already the most watched video on your channel. Well done.
Captain Clarke, holy moly!! You have all my respect!! Great driving, great crew briefing, very well done!
For doing his job? For a job that shouldn't exist.
That was awesome. And Captain Paul still has the tight wave and smile in the middle.
Wow all those obstacles and Blair didn't loose a drone. Thanks for showing us the difficulties in manoeuvring such a big boat through a tight space.
Blair hasn't lost a drone yet! he's on a record run 🛥🥂
He doesn't lose the drones. He just tries to operate them as submersibles.
Good clear communication is crucial, very professional of the crew👍
Thank you so so much for watching REAL super size vessel operation 😊😊😊 I love how you have REDUNDANCY with second portable VHF. You my super size vessel captain are perfect. You prior brief with 1st mate, then him briefing crew, NO extra VHF radio talking. The 1st mate moving side to side. Just like a PRO 😊😊
glad you know what you’re doing Captain! That was an excellent job very well done. I went in there with my 25 m boat and that was feeling pretty tight already and you are a lot bigger. Good job to everybody and also great videos too.
Really great video - good pace, nice shots, great editing. Thanks for sharing the operational side of super yachting with us.
Really look forward to these videos - entertaining and educational - huge respect for you all on board
Thank you for watching and for your amazing comment. 🛥🥂
Excellent process and crew coordination! ( brings back memories of my bareboat days - and I did spend a couple of days in Simpson Bay. I did not realize it was so tight. When I was on board the old Man Of Steel, the Captain gave myself and the Gulfstream Crew a great tour after our Boss left. ( I arranged a charter for him as a lawnmower damaged a flap on our G500) You guys have a real nice vessel!
Did a couple screen shots from the Drone in the passage - you guys rock! Loon crew - setting a benchmark for excellence!
Good job Captain Paul, that was class!
Great job! Great crew! Kudos
Absolutely excellent video! Content, video quality and clear explanation of what you were trying to accomplish with the results visible to those who aren't familiar with the terminology. Nice job to you, your crew and definitely your videographer!
So cool. Sat at that restaurant a lot and watched many a boat squeeze through. Great job Captain.
can tell the bridge operation has gotten more professional since my last four passages thru some time ago. awesome job, a joy to watch your level of expertise at work.
Congratulations Blair this is such amazing work
What a fabulous crew you have developed around you. Great leadership creates great crew and they in turn go on to create future great crew. Great to watch.
Proud to call this island my birthplace ❤️🇸🇽 shoutout to all the captains out there and especially you Capt. Did a crazy job getting through there. As a captain for much much smaller vessels I can agree that it’s not an easy channel to get in and out of. Some days it can be a cake walk due to low wind and no current, and some days it’s a shxxt show. I muss say even for the 35-45ft that has to pass on the far left next to the rocks is no easy task. Major thanks for not destroying our bridge 😂😂🤘🏽🤙🏽
This is amazing but.....why don't they just widen the bridge?!
You’d think they’d widen the entrance if it’s such a great destination!
They did we used to go through there with a 30ft beam and 36ft wide bridge entrance back in the early 2000’s
@@TrimaranSpirit They really didn't widen it enough, but consider the panamax ships that barely fit through the locks in the Panama Canal.. probably much more difficult and with much more at stake.
Well done to you, skipper, and your crew. You made it look easy!
Many of captains have lost the career at this marina 💀
WOW! Been waiting for a proper video about this passage for ever! Beautiful!!!
Thank you for the great comment 🛥️🥂
I love watching someone that is on their game. Nice work Cap.
Had my 6 pack then 100 ton then masters having confidence in your captain and the captain in his crew makes all the difference love❤The Loon lets me relive my youth
Geez Paul, i was getting nervous for you! Well done mate, perfectly executed!
Terrific video. Really captured every aspect. Appreciate you sharing it. Thank you
Enjoyed watching you all work. What an amazing crew to work with. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome from the first minute! Watching while sending this. Cheers and thanks!
I love it when a plan comes together. That has to a daunting pass thru for the first time. Looked stressfull after 50+. Great job.
Thank you 😊 Got to show the bridge respect every time you go through it. The time you get complacent is the time you hit it. Thanks for watching 🛥🥂
Well done, Capt and crew. Loves watching expertise in action.
Good job! It is a bit nerve wracking even on a 34-foot sailboat with an outboard motor. The current through that tight channel, wind, and slow speed (plus having to adjust for boats in front and behind) all add up. Always glad when we've finished passing through. Happy holidays, everyone!
You guys are awesome, well done to Captain Paul and his crew. Fantasties.
Well done Capt, great Crew, very clear communication, by the young man, yes I’ve seen videos, of boats, hitting a bridge, didn’t know which one, until now. Like others have said, I will never be able to be on a Super yacht, but watching your video, makes my dream even closer. Great job to all the Crew.
A steady hand and a positive attitude and this man is amazing!!
One word needed… “Professionals” Well done Loon crew!
An amazing video, I was stressed out just watching! First class communication and calls from the crew.
Awesome, my nephew Tony of Tony's AirCon, lives on the Island and I've watched the yachts and the bridge in amazement.....Cheers Sint Maarten 🎉
Well done Captain and Crew. Keep em coming Blair!
Wow what a crew! That is one harrowing entrance wow! You guys did amazing, I could not imagine that crossing on a windy day!
I have always wanted to a ship captain since a kid. I grew up and live on the water.... This is the 1st vid I seen of the channel! Cant wait to see all the content!
Respect, Captain! Nice and easy, showing us how it's done. Great capturing it with the camera angles as well.
Thanks for capturing this on video the way you did.
Very nicely done, a pure example of teamwork with great comunication makes for a safe superyacht. Have a wonderful season, looking forward to more content.
Thank you. The crew did everything perfectly, and it all went according to plan. 🛥🏝️🥂
I have been a second mate on the various Anchor handlers for the last 10 years and I must say hats off Captain. Incredible driving skills.
Textbook...you and your team put on a clinic. Great video. Thanks for posting.
Great job and fantastic video. Appreciate seeing something that i would otherwise never see or experience.
I've watched lots of huge yachts go through the Simpson Bay Bridge and it's always a treat. Not to minimize the knowledge and experience required to squeeze through that opening, but with all the toys that these yachts have, in some ways it's easier to do so than with a small boat without all the electronics. My little 24 footer can get me in trouble with some wind and a tide run because all I have is my 250 hp Yamaha to maneuver with.
Definitely a tight spot! I know the pucker factor and the adrenaline that gets going when coming into a tight spot. As a Scallop boat captain, coming into Cape May and going through the Two Mile bridge with a 120 foot boat it gets the heart beating! Great job bringing her in! I’ve seen that bridge from the road, you guys earned your pay!
Very informative. Nice to see someone navigate that entrance well.
Brilliant manoeuvre Paul, you looked calm and collected like a professional that you are 👍
Wow Paul, that was some skilful handling and I tip my hat to you sir. Job well done to the whole crew on that one 👏🏻
Cool, Calm & Collected always a pleasure to watch consumate professionals at work ,,,you make it look so easy even when it is a challenge.
Again, you did not disappoint. Great video, great teamwork Love from Colorado.
Amazing video Blair 👏 Captain Paul that was insane tight. Good job going thru the bridge with Loon 🤩
I never doubted you for a second, brilliant job. I don't use instagram at the moment, maybe soon, would be great to watch a little something everyday. Take care guys and again, great job.
I love watching,real pros at work!iIve run some private yachts,up to about50’,In the 1980 s,I had,an50 ton,ocean Operators license,with endorsements for,the east coast,and Caribbean Thank you for the video
Capt Paul - well played Sir. You did an amzing job.
Paul and crew, absolutely EPIC job on threading the needle through that Bridge in St. Martin. Each Crew Member demonstrated a level of professional that smokes the competition. Stellar job to all. Can't wait to join you on a future cruise. Are there any favorites you can pass on ? Safe and enjoyable sailing to all.
I was just there last week and would have loved to see this entry in person. We came through on a catamaran but would love to go via a sailboat next time. Simpson Bay is a lovely place.
Brilliant. Very fun to watch too for some reason. Love the professionalism and the humility. As a yacht owner I appreciate everything I saw. Truly impressive.
but not to the rest of the crew? 😩
Great job, skipper . You developed a game plan for yourself and crewmates and executed it perfectly !
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad you enjoyed the video 🛥🥂
Man 😮 I was sweaty watching from my sofa! Chapeau sir 👏
Absolutely epic video xx loved this
Nice job Capt. You nailed it.
Yikes! Massive crazy, great job!
Great choice of soundtrack Blair! Wow, expert steering!
Respect, captain Paul! I actually clenched watching the passing.
Great video nice drone shots and enjoyed the view on maps people struggle to visualise locations so this really helped. I knew you made it, but I was still apprehensive whilst watching certainly a lot tighter than 180 (loon) As you said it is a great Marina and location. Next video meet the new crew ?
That's amazing... they need to call you the Tailer, cause. you threaded that needle like a boss. Love that
