have you played battleborn? the front and center character has 4 fingers, kinda looks like zero... also the game has the same plot that the nyriad logs describe in bl3 as being the history of the eridians, or book of storms, and the jennerit architecture (which has images of zero in stained glass) in bb looks like the eridian's in bl3. I think battleborn was a very coded way for gearbox to hand out zeros back story.

I think when you meet Zer0 as Fl4k in the campaign, Fl4k says: 'There is something familiar about that one'. Maybe hinting that he has a robotic history, at to maybe a cyborg or a full on robot.

One of my favorite exchanges from the entire series will always be Zer0 screwing up his haiku while talking to Lorelai, it was both really funny and showed a lot about the character
During the whole Katagawa Jr. mission, I was constantly under the impression that ZerØ is eldest son of the Katagawa family. There are just too many coincidences with ZerØ's suit being Maliwan tech, ZerØ speaks in Japanese haiku, and the fact that ZerØ doesn't say a word throughout the entire mission. It's only when Rys is about to get killed, does Zero finally comes out of the shadows (maybe ZerØ was hesitant on killing his only family left) And with the name, "ZerØ". Katagawa had 12 siblings, only Naoko survived. Maybe ZerØ also survived, but lost his original body in return. Thus, making him the "zero" sibling that doesn't exists

This is a pretty believable theory. I also came up with an explanation about the fingers. I was watching predators the other day. There is a guy that speaks rarely. When one of the others ask him about it he shows his hand which is missing a pinky and says “because I speak too much”. He was yakuza and that was a form of punishment. Maybe zero either got punished for whatever the reason or… he severed his pinkies himself. That’s because most of the strength in a hand grip comes from the pinky finger. That’s why the punishment of the Yakuza was such. It would take away your ability to wield a katana perfectly. Zero is a guy that always wants a challenge. Maybe that was his way of evening the odds versus what he thought was not a real challenge.
@@FairH2O that’s another good point. Because, if Zer0 had lost his pinkies for whatever reason, the borderlands takes place at a time in the universe where they have cybernetic prosthetics and Zer0 could easily replace the missing pinkies. So, either the suit requires the removal of pinkies for it to function, or Zer0 deliberately had them removed to make combat more challenging like you said.

I know that all to well, Except I spent around 6 hours and 40k on it
Vladof pistol/Jackobs revolver, a Dahl or Hyperion corrosive sniper rifle, a Jakobs sniper for human enemies, and a nice little Hyperion or Tediore SMG for a side arm. Utilizing appropriate grenade mods, such as a Bonus Package if you were blessed by RNGesus and shit ain't too terrible.
I actually had to go all the way to the Friendship Gulag for that one, because W4R-D3N kept one-shotting me as I did not have survivability nor proper weapons (I had a powerful corrosive sniper and a good Jackobs pistol which proved more than adequate for the mission, but W4R-D3N somehow kept taking obscenely low damage, no matter how much I shot it).
It took me a day or two to rescue Roland but I got it eventually
I found out much later that i did really fucking well on that mission bc i got it right at the first chance i got but i think part of it i was stuck on long enough for me to have to take a meal break but i did appereantly still did wellXD(i think most of that comes from me being a whore for sidequests so i'm almost always overleveled for a storymission even from the start bc i find weird workaround to sidequests higher level than the storyquest such as in Borderlands 3 using a car outside bandit camps to kill stuff only going in deeper to lure them out)
First play through of Borderlands 2 I selected Zero really enjoyed his character, and Borderlands 3 my favourite part of the game was the Atlas/Maliwan war, and of course Zer0, Rhys & Lorelei.

It’d be awesome if Rhys tasked Zer0 with training a new generation of Lance Assassins. Maybe Athena would take notice as well & meet with Zer0.

You forgot to cover the Wam Bam Island vault hunter quest in Borderlands 2. I personally believe it made more mystery behind the character, and the “One” figure that helped him.
I love how that quest shows Zer0 actually has standards for just what counts for being too mysterious. " 'To Zer0; 0ne.' ...Well, that's irritatingly cryptic."

@@synical69 I would really suggest you playing through Pre-sequel before it. Even though it runs on the same engine, its gameplay is more advanced and it polished some edges BL2 had. It is very valuable in terms of plot, and it's a shame no one continued developing it after 2K Australia's downfall. P.S. Just have seen your latter comment. The gameplay of TPS is awesome, the only thing it lacks is endgame, but the raid boss and claptrap's dlc boss fights are still epic.

No he's not. Jack literally built an empire that was in control of an entire planet. Without the vault hunters Rhys couldn't hold on to his own headquarters

@@dillionedmonds5736 Idk man, looking at Maliwan in BL3 compared to Hyperion in BL2, both seem to have enough to rival each other. Remember, both Hyperion and Maliwan got screwed over by a couple of Vault Hunters.

We are comparing BL1.5 Hyperion (since Jack was not in control of Hyperion until after the events of that game) with BL3 Atlus which is when both CEO's had been in control of their respective companies for a similar amount of time. And what makes Jack better is that he took his corporation and turned it into a massive power in the galaxy, Rhys took his corporation and almost drove it straight into the ground until the vault hunters showed up and rescued him. After all, even severely weakened as Atlus corporation was, it still should have been able to stand up to Maliwan much better than it did especially considering they were on home turf.

Borderlands 2 was the first borderlands game I played and I chose zerO as my first character ever. He’s so cool and he’s my fav forever it’s nice to hangout with him in borderlands 3!

Kinda wished he had a better reaction to Maya death. His words while honorable and sweet, sound like words you say to a fallen comrade but they were more than that. They were on the same vault hunter team, you’d think he’d have more to say for his teammate.
Maya was my favorite character and they made her death kinda a joke and that really pissed me off :/

PandaZ Art I was expecting zero to shed some tears, build her a grave, or just something. Our vault hunters not showing emotion, ok sure. It sucks but they don’t know here so no big deal, but zero was her teammate. They were all in borderland 2 and she just died and zero like, “it was an honor to fight with you” rather than how he missed one of his partners.
PandaZ Art i think it’s a problem with how the games are being made. For some reason, our characters are always just viewers to events rather than participants. Despite having their own character and dialogue, they don’t interact with them. Other than a dialogue after she dies, they don’t cause our characters to go through a. Growth which is unfortunate. I would’ve loved to see our vault hunters develop due to watching someone die. Zane could become less chaotic, FL4K could be more compassionate, etc. but nope. She dies out of left field and not even her fellow vault hunter cares.

This is why Zer0 is my absolute favorite Vault hunter and character in all of borderlands. He’s not incredibly well written like krieg or other characters but with there being such little information known about him makes him the most intriguing and most thought provoking character in all of borderlands in my opinion. I’d say he’s probably the most deadly Vault Hunter ever.

I find it interesting you didn't bring up the son of crawmerax. The echo he gets does have interesting implications as does how his would be assasin dies.
Honestly... I think even if we had access to page 9, we still wouldn't get more details on him. The way the sentence is worded "Zer0's true name and gender are..." indicates to me that she is gonna address them both at the same time. My guess is, the sentence would end with either "a mystery however, even to me." Or "however something that I cannot disclose publicly, as I do not wish for him to have a reason to murder me." If she was actually going to give it away, it would be worded like this instead "Zer0's true name is [true name] and he/she is a [gender]".

The haïku style of speaking, the japan like emojis make me think about japan when speaking of Zer0. When I think of japan and I hear about someone having less than 10 fingers on his hands... I genuinely think of a yakuza.
interesting idea. they cut in portions and after one pinky is gone they start on the other. however they only loose a portion for each infraction, at least based of what i could find. this would mean that zero messed up or offended someone more than 4 times, assuming u cut off about half the pinky each time, though i believe it would be more around six as the pinky can be cut three times if u also remove the stub, which he appears to have. that however means cutting thick bone and from what i can find online they wouldn't be able to do that with their traditional knife.
Nice theory, but unless they also cut off the entire pinky bone ins the hand itself (in the palm) I find it pretty unlikely that he was part of a Yakuza-esque corporation.

I have a few theories as to what Zero is, either he's: - An unknown humanoid alien - Somehow related to Katagawa- They both have four digits on their hands, but Gearbox could have just reused and added onto Zero's model, so I'm unsure as to how strong that piece of evidence is. - Another bot like FL4K, they also only have four digits - A repurposed Guardian, but to me that seems unlikely.

theory: Zer0 could be an actual living breathing human. he possibly got into an accident which results in his serious injure. The suit he talking about in bl3 was created by "she" in order to keep him alive most likely. before he becoming Zer0 he could be an experienced assassin making a lot of enemies. Also during the Crawmax DLC, there is 0ne according to Zer0 that could be Zer0 is the first one got the suit and 0ne is the second person who also got the same suit. 0h yeah, the reason he speaks in haiku could possibly because of the voice module forcing him to speak in haiku same as Torgue which beep his cursed words

Nice video. Philochrony is the theory that describes the nature of time and demonstrates its existence. Philochrony establishes an analogy between zero and time thus arising the linear zero.
If you stand sanctuary in zeros office you can hear him talking about his fingers and that he makes it sound like he had 4 at once and not 3 !!!!

Even though I haven't played Tales from the Borderlands, it sucks that Fiona hasn't been seen since then... Maybe she'll reappear in a future DLC, due to the fact that Gearbox is going to be doing more after the Krieg DLC

One thing you did miss was that Zero pretty much only talks in Haiku's (except for some one liners in his playable dialogue in BL2). And when introducing himself to Lorelei he broke the 5/7/5 rule with a 5/7/6 following up with that "damn it", was a true break in character as he was flustered, which never happens.
Zero was my first vault hunter while playing with my older brother when it first released. I'd love to see some sort of speculation video where you research Zero more, and try to find out what or who Zero is.

The problem I have with Borderlands 3 is that it tries to make the Vault Hunters out to be “good people.” I realized this while playing BL2 and found the first Echo you showed in the video. In the second game Zer0 is a monster. Something of a boogeyman. But in BL3 he is depicted as some “rawr XD haiku sword man”. Should also be mentioned that Fl4k has a unique dialogue with Zer0 upon meeting him, stating that Zer0 “seems familiar.”
I chose him on my first playthrough. And its quite nice to see him become a more fleshed out character in BL3

Something I just only noticed by watching this video is that when Katagawa has the Zer0 suit it has the 4 finger design still, instead of the suit being adapted to fit a normal human hand which you would assume Katagawa would have... I guess this could imply that Zer0 is human somehow?
When you had mentioned that him and the Eridians are the two most mysterious characters in borderlands it made me think. Maybe Zero is a descendent or possibly even an actual Eridian one of the last of his kind? Or possibly even a Guardian the Eridians created that gained more awareness of his existence looking back at the guardians from bl1 they share a similar structure as zero minus the four digits on each hand, slender bodies and even though his head is much like ours he still shares similarities to them. The can turn invisible and “teleport” to other locations and seem very skilled in combat. What if he was a lesser version of them?

Katagawa could've also put two fingers into one space to make it look more believable to everyone. It's a small detail, but if someone had noticed that he had five fingers instead of four they would've known it wasn't really Zer0.
I always assumed he was a private elite Atlas Assassin since he matches up in how they worked down to there swords. With following the body of eridian guardians. Which he was suppose to be apart of the Gortys project to counter the Travelers ability since it was that effective with the Digi-Adapt (Apart of it was cause they relooped that "The Vault" line in the Zer0 tapes as if he knew his task but didn't fully know why or what it was exactly).

Well, Fl4k was an archive bot a bit before BL3, so there is a chance he read of him and his exploits when he was still doing that. Heck, maybe it's what gave him sentience or something, who knows.

A factoid you missed even briefly is the mysterious One who was the person responsible for killing Zer0's assassin in the headhunters expansion. That could have been someone Zer0 knows but under a different name as Zer0 didn't even know who this One was. Buth either way I love Zer0 he is one of my favourite characters

When he says "did she" I think it was moxxi bc of what he says durring tales from the borderlands
Zer0 is likely a cyborg with the majority of his body being robotic but the important parts organic. On a more realistic level relating to that all joints would have to be mechanical and his organs organic excluding his eyes. The body torso would be organic to a point but still need mechanical components to compensate for power and weight stability. We might see something in a dlc for BL3 in the future but only the developers can decide that.

I didn’t know Zero was canonically in the finale battle in tales from the borderlands against the traveler, it DOES make sense but I followed the path from the full game movie from *GamersLittlePlayground* and thought that was the canon battle
