Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator | Tim Urban | TED

2016 ж. 5 Сәу.

Tim Urban knows that procrastination doesn't make sense, but he's never been able to shake his habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. In this hilarious and insightful talk, Urban takes us on a journey through KZhead binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window -- and encourages us to think harder about what we're really procrastinating on, before we run out of time.

    • I, a non-procrastinator, do not understand why some people do, even my husband. He drives me crazy with all his "Oh no, this is due by tomorrow and *you have to help me*". I used to bail him out of his deadline issues all the time but now, if it doesn't hurt me, he's on his own. Does this make me a bad wife? I certainly hope not.

    • @@cheriem432 the point about deadline based procrastination was though that it usually works. Yes, you have to work more intensively in a short period of time, but you get things done. Most procrastinators, I would say, feel so bad and shameful about procrastinating until the panic hits that asking for help (and thus exposing the procrastination habit) would be the absolute last resort. And you're right, you shouldn't make it even easier for someone to only engage with the fun and easy.

Facebook has been using AI in most of its features and products for more than 15 years now, so Ai has nothing to do with it. They embarked on unprofitable projects. And over hired. Apple has never laid off employees despite the economic downturn. They did well in hiring and never had failed projects. Metaverse failed. Gaming projects failed. Fintech, Lira failed. In the last 20 months, Sanbberg left, nobody is there to "tame the lion" Most Tech companies went woke: hired talents in order to prevent competitors from having access, they kept them idle, just to hijack a pool of talent. Over hired without proper assessment and protection. The existing projects couldn't turn in expected revenue, even before inflation war in USA set it. Let's put it in perspective without blaming AI. 95% of big tech have been using AI in the last 15 years. Building a passive income is a real hedge against inflation. Such is a thing that won't fail when the govt and the big tech fails.

Why I lie to myself when I know it's a lie is beyond me, it's an unhealthy and stupid habit of mine but I can't get rid of it.

    • @@oppenheimer11 Well, I just got diagnosed this year so I’m still learning. Medication can help but having strategies to help deal with it helps the other part. Talk to a doctor about it and they will help you to find someone to test you. The channel I go to for strategies is HowToADHD. They have helped me quite a bit. Also a doctor can prescribe medication for ADHD. I take a non-stimulant medication. Your doctor can help you figure out if stimulants or non-stimulants help you more. They typically try a non-stimulant first because those are less heavy on the heart. Stimulants regulate heart rate while non-stimulants tend to work on the mind. However, this can vary from person to person. Talking to a doctor is a good first step and checking out that ADHD channel can help too.

    • @@oppenheimer11 There's no way to really get rid of it, since it's a type of neurodiversity (basically, it's just how your brain functions). However, you could look into behavioral therapy (with a psychologist who specializes in ADHD) and/or go to a psychiatrist and ask about a possible diagnosis and farmacological treatment; both of those at the same time seem to be of good help to many people :>

  • This video has been on my 'watch later' list for years. Funny that I procrastinate watching a video about procrastination. Decided to finally watch it because I'm trying to change, and this is sort of a symbol.

    • @Anifco67 Sorry, i'll have to disagree with it. When you are a procrastinator, you are kind of perfectionist. Your mind wants certain, specific set up before it feels comfortable to do it. Also, one little discomfort in your task, can push you away from it, and it might take you months or years to come back to it. It's real, it happens.

I cant think of what the goal was then or where i was actually going untill i got it back on schedule or i forgave it. But its really hard
