Kris Collins is a comedian and mental health advocate who deeply understands the struggle of severe depression , anxiety disorder, and suicidal ideation firsthand.
Kris started releasing comedy skits on TikTok in 2020 after her hairdressing business was closed during the COVID-19 lockdowns. She quickly became one of the biggest creators on the platform with 29 million followers, making her the #1 TikTok creator in Canada.
In addition to anxiety and depression, Kris has worked through an eating disorder and has struggled with suicidality.
After seeking help for depression and anxiety through therapy, she's on a journey of better understanding herself, mental illness, and the power of self love.
Here's how Kris Collins coped & cultivated self love.
In this enlightening interview, MedCircle Host Kyle Kittleson asks Kris...
- You’ve mentioned that you struggled with depression and anxiety through your teens and early 20s. Can you share a bit of your mental health journey What did life look like and feel like?
- How did this time in your life impact your self esteem/your ability to cultivate self love?
- There are a lot of misconceptions around depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation-and many people have trouble spotting the symptoms. Did you understand what you were experiencing before you became more aware/educated on mental health?
- Can you share what led to your experiencing suicidal ideation?
- Can you share your journey to finding treatment?
- Therapy and treatment look different for everybody. What did therapy/treatment look like for you?
- How did this education/insight around depression and anxiety (e.g. your ability to learn about therapy through different sources) change your outlook on your future, on hope for recovery, etc.?
- Did your journey toward self-love, and your ability to cultivate self-compassion, change as you came to understand your depression/anxiety?
- What does that journey look like for you today?
- What is one thing you’d like viewers who are struggling with depression/anxiety to know?

  • Really good point of “proving” how mentally ill we are. Some people think if they can’t see anything outwards at moment that means the illness is suddenly gone/paused/healed etc.😔 They don’t realise it is a 24/7 battle.

    • Have you ever tried EMDR? Very good for C-PTSD because you can go at your own pace and process all the trauma memories you need to, which would take a very long time if doing weekly sessions with a therapist. I used the online version now as paying for a therapist became too expensive. Here’s a link if you would like to try it, you get the first 3 days free trial too I think. www.virtualemdr.com?ref=freetrial

    • Starr, Reduce negative thoughts and feel better. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, eyes closed, be still and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight with your thoughts. Slowly they will reduce and relax the mind. No deep inhalation-exhalation or breath counting needed. Anytime of the day or night before sleep sit or lie down and observe your breath. Be as still as possible as it reduces negative thoughts. Make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

  • 2021 was the hardest, darkest time of my life. I was physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually BROKEN. But now I feel genuinely GRATEFUL and BLESSED that I had to go through that phase because GOD has graciously REVEALED Himself to me in miraculous ways. I am fortunate that He allowed me to know Him at a very young age, but this year is so much SPECIAL because of what WE (yes, GOD and me) have been through last year. He showed me how POWERFUL prayers truly are when I started to focus on WHO HE IS rather than who I am, on WHAT HE CAN DO rather than what I deserve. The experience was MAGICAL. He showed up BIG TIME and assured me that HE is indeed a LISTENING and RESPONDING GOD. Oh how my faith has skyrocketed as a result! Now more than ever, I have very bright HOPE for my future because I experienced first hand how RELIABLE God is. And for that I will forever be grateful. GLORY BE TO GOD, MY EVER FAITHFUL FATHER. ♥️♥️♥️ To everyone who's struggling right now, please know that JESUS LOVES YOU. HE DIED FOR YOU. He wants to help you and give you peace. Please surrender your burdens to Him and allow Him to move in your life. "Because he loves Me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My Name. He will call on Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him." (Psalm 91:14-15) Please hold on to this bible verse because WHATEVER GOD SAYS, HE FULFILLS. ✝️

  • I also want to point out another thing she said going to therapist that don't have experience with saying my position. I was a heroin addict for many for about 5 years and it was the largely to do to my depression and using it as as an escape mechanism and then going to these clinics to help you get off of them by methadone treatments. But you get these therapists and counselors who don't understand that how addiction works. All they know is what they've read and learned on addiction in school so they know the mechanics of it, but they don't know how to relate to an actual addict which now I'm seeing more and more classes which is what I want to take in school is addiction counseling and I believe that it would be a great choice for someone who has been an an addict to really get into that and help other addicts get out of their addiction just as you have. Beat yours and like she said it it stops you from having to prove yourself on why you went to this addiction because a lot of people just look at it like oh they just wanted to get high. No I wanted to escape. It's not that I wanted to get high. It was the escape that that led me to it and then it become a just an everyday thing that I had to do to even function. It wasn't even escaping anymore. It was just functioning now because when your body becomes addicted, you can't function without it. You're very sick. You can't be literally can't function but yeah I agree with her on the being able to relate with your therapist and therapists. Actually learning from at least learning from addicts or and learning from people with the illness. One-on-one and let that be part of their teachings so that they can connect with that client that they have because that makes all the difference in the world

    • Anthony, Reduce negative thoughts.

  • I believe that everyone is being spiritually attacked with negative thoughts, feelings and desires which cause depression, anxiety, fear, etc. It really helped me to learn where all the negatives were coming from and that I had the authority as a believer in Jesus to resist and reject them in His Name. Spiritual warfare is not quick and easy, one can never give up because to do so is to loose the war.

  • is "grey rock" some made up word to... formulate, ground, uplift, and present to society? do you think humanity is about coming up with terms that separate one another? do you think certain movements perhaps are productive for humanity? do you think MedCircle is doing good for humanity despite not being transparent at all with everything that they do? do you ever think about looking into the past and wondering if people debated or discussed or wasted time worrying about trivial social issues? do you think it should matter if MedCircle is open with everything about themselves? who even am i to define what a narcissist is? shouldn't we feel empowered about ourselves and be able to express it, somehow...? is narcissist a productive term at all for us to use if it just dampens us? shouldn't we focus, as a human civilization, to create and establish the best possible parameters for life to blossom, including granting them the ability to express themselves? if not, do you think art should be universal, to the point that our lives are a grand display of the cosmos? do we make society separate from these behaviors because those take up the personality of a modern day seeker? are organizations exploiting humans? what organizations are exploiting humans? do other forms of life exist, if genetic variation exists, if genetic silencing exists, if genetic modifications exist to incorporate all of the variety of life and nature? why is it that initially we defined illnesses at near optimal levels of definition, only to have it move slowly over time away leaving medical care closer to only severe case coverage? why are we letting our people suffer through their lives and live sub-optimally? why does it take a fancy advanced diagnostician to define what illness a person has or doesn't has? why does MedCircle believe that we should let the doctor define who all of the specialists are? why are we letting this broken society define everything, from who and what we are, considering even i don't know what i am anymore? do you think it's reasonable to call a psychiatrist your therapist? why do psychiatrists not want to deal with patients and just want to sit comfortably in office? why do these people just sit and browse social media all day to learn about people? how many of these people have access to special information only known to the individual, or groups like the government? why is there a need to create a distinction between the fields of prescriber and non-prescriber? why are we obfuscating the process and forcing us to go through multiple series of steps? why does it feel like you are all trolling around? why does care need to be on a ladder, why isn't care itself justified and allowed to permeate through the layers of society? why do several organizations do this? why have we let capitalism take control? if we have all of this information today, why can't we allow people to use it themselves if they think they have some condition? why are we experimenting on forms of life continuously, including humans? why aren't we studying nonphysical phenomena more, instead, in order to achieve innovation and understanding of this universe? why do you dislike psychedelics so much, is it because they fix issues in a way that big pharma can't capitalize off? do you think identity dissolution should be applied for everyone? do you think schizophrenics are immune to capitalism? do you think people should open up their mind and stay true to themselves? do you think people should try psychedelics, including the naturally produced dimethyltryptamine, which is illegal for not a single good reason? why does MedCircle start serious conversations with "believing in something for debate's-sake" to get people to debate about the wrong things? why does MedCircle like to get people to debate issues that can be solved using trivial forms of reasoning? do you understand the distinction between logic and reasoning? why is MedCircle advertising the fact that medication comes in multiple forms, when it's not even essential since it's going to affect our chemistry, anyways? why are we creating various modes of transport with synthetic medicinal though they all pass through the same digestive system? why are we wasting resources investing in things that aren't necessary? why are we pushing opiods for chronic illnesses even though they cause serious social, addiction, biological problems for all of society?
