$500 Plasti-Dip vs. $2600 Vinyl Wrap - PART 2! | Donut Media

We Screwed Up! --- We heard you! -- AND WE'RE HERE TO MAKE IT RIGHT!!!
Today we are seeking to redeem ourselves. We tried plastidipping LowCar previously, but we didn’t do the best job to say the least. You guys went to town in the comments and Nolan had to reconsider what he was doing with his life. BUT we are still confident that Plasti Dip is a viable option for changing the color of your car --as long as you do a good job. It can be pretty easily reversible (we hope), fairly inexpensive (if you only do it once), and it can look good.

It took me like 10 coats because I was going super light, but it came out even with no drips. Also, a benefit I had in doing those light coats was by the time I finished one side the other was dry and ready for the next coat.

    • @@estebanod idk why you feel that way. I paint as a hobby and do commision work from time to time. Distance and how fast you wave the paint over the surface certainly matters. Spraying the paint too close it will pool and drip. Too far away, the paint dries before it makes contact causing a frosting/rough textured surface. You should always test paints you're not familiar with to figure out the proper distance and speed you need for it to lay smooth.

(If this is not what you meant, than disconsider my comment below) Nice idea, but the stock car, if don't have any "nasty surprises", will always be better. Is much easear do what you want with a Stock car than have to undo someone else mods; and some mods can be a nightmare to undo. From experience, I would purchase with no doubts on my mind a 40k 'stock' car over a modded 40k car. In terms of performance on the track, I think the awnser is very easy to guess; stock will lose.

  • Nolan definitely "redipped" himself! About 10 years ago, some friends and I opened up a business to sell auto parts, perform auto detailing, and also Plastidip entire vehicles, wheels, individual body parts, etc. The dipping side of the business was at first very strenuous, we were spending a lot of time trying to find the right guns to spray with, what techniques worked best and how much actual dip it took to do a legitimate wrap job! DipYourCars full car kit would barely get you through half a car before needing to clean out the provided gun with the remover(did not go very far), it was not cost effective and we were just flying through funds from buying so much materials to keep guns clean. We finally got a profitable process going, and we were charging customers a little more than the DIY kits. and we did about a dozen REALLY awesome looking Dipped cars. If you can get a solid process down then it is fun and easy to do and your car could come out looking great! Thanks for doing a Part 2 Donut! Avid fan of the page anda huge supporter! • Gabriel Hunter I know exactly what he was referring to and I responded accordingly..plasti dip as a fad is dying out so the fact that Nolan advertised the product at all definitely helped fonzie out and if anything he owed donut a big thank you 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • I was just referencing what James said around the 1:10 mark that "Nolan did such a bad job he put an entire industry in jeopardy." Edit: I guess my original comment should have been industry instead of business.

  • As someone who doesn't spray cars, but does model kits, the secret to a good coat is the same no matter what you're working on. MULTIPLE LAYERS OF LIGHT COATS In any case, HOT DAMN does the car look good. Excellent work!

  • I loved the little look "behind the scenes" of how the footage of the cars was shot. The videos you guys make always have stellar production value, keep it up!

    • haha yeah, used to do the same at the world solar race in australia, same method, although my safety gear was a bit more improvised :P but yeah, if you want to shoot footage of a car driving, get a cam car with sliding doors.

  • This is something I think that could completely change the opinion. With dip you can do things with pearls that are insane. Color shift pearls are something I find fascinating. Now imagine that car changing colors depending on what angle you look at it. Can a vinyl wrap do that?

  • I actually really enjoy this show, I recently got a car and wanted to get into car culture. It seemed really expensive at first and impossible to get into on a lower budget, but these videos help prove that otherwise. Keep it up!

    • @@ismail10_02 Thanks! I got a G35 Coupe and wanted to get into some parts like an exhaust, lowering the suspension/camber, and new headlights . Then moving on to cool air intake and body kit for air flow. Once aesthetically pleasing I was gonna do things like inter cooler or even a small turbo if the engine bay had room. Thanks for the help tho, new parts looked kind of expensive at first from big name websites.
