Funny, I thought about Sid not having his contract renewed.
I turned the game off after the second Boston goal because I knew they weren't winning this one. A couple of years back, when they lost game 5 against Montreal after being up 3-1 in games, I said to my son that they were going to lose the series. He said I was being pessimistic. I said that he hadn't watched the Leafs for enough years to realize how they are. We all saw how it ended up. I believe the Leafs problems go way beyond immediate coaching or player issues. I think it's a deeply routed losing culture that has been honed over the decades and it's not going to be easy to reverse now. In fact it's only going to get harder with each passing year that keeps adding another chain link to the losing culture.

I became a leafs fan in 1990, I was 9, I’m 42 now married with 3 kids, and it’s been the same narrative with this team, they choke year after year. The closest this team has gotten to a Stanley Cup appearance is in 1993 when they came close to defeating Gretzky and the Kings…… this team from top to bottom, needs a change! This team is weak and embarrassing!

How many players on the Leafs would opponents say are a pain in the ass to play against? Very few and that’s the main problem.The leafs are a team filled with regular season players and very few who know how to play playoff hockey!
a good coach would realize Marners strengths and weaknesses and adjust according to that
His strength is that he has insane hockey skills. His weakness is that he doesn't want to "embrace the pain" involved in winning a Stanley Cup. I have no idea how any coach adjusts for that other than lobbying the NHL for a non-contact division.

In different times of the year - Sid would be called a Leaf Troll & Hater. I blame the Leaf Executives for not upgrading the Leaf Core 4 for the playoffs. The Leaf Core 4 have done ok in the regular season. Why not try supporting Toronto & Ottawa not investing so much in just the Leafs. With 32 teams - it is ok to maybe support more than 1 team. 😀

It's funny that you mentioned not going to watch the game. I did the exact same thing in 2011 after game 4 of the final between the Canucks and Bruins. I was pissed off that the Canucks could blow a 2 game lead so I chose not watch game 5 which they ended up winning 1-0. Game 7 my TV was off after 2 periods because I knew that the Bruins were going to lift the Cup. I put on my stereo listened to music and avoided my phone, radio, TV, and in fact all sports broadcasts for a week.. When the riots happened, my sister called me and it didn't surprise me. As a Canucks fan that was a tough day. As a Leafs observer, 1959 to now hopefully they can reach deep and come back .
My Son and I had made a pact to not watch the Leafs live and that has proven to be prudent. Look at the departures from the Bruins over the past few years and people waiting for them to fall off. Please, that organization has bred winners while the Leafs have bred lacklustre efforts and constant disappointment. If they resign Mitch it had better not come with a no trade clause. I think 22 Million saved from not re-signing Mitch and J.T. could be spent on players who actually can make a difference when it matters most. A literal embarrassment.

I see two problems with the Leafs in this round. 1. There have been 7 players on the Leafs team who’ve scored and only a goal a piece. 2 They’re playing the Bruins
The problem is the Leafs need to play a perfect game to win, if things don’t fall perfectly for them they end up falling apart, that’s a problem! I havnt watched a reg season game in 3 years. Shanahan has done such a disservice to the franchise and fan base since coming in. Leaf fans also to blame, you keep buying jerseys buying high priced tickets to see nothing but the same crap every year…it starts with the fans because MLSE is a business and they are actually doing great.
the problem is they're not built for playoffs.. you can't spend half your cap on 4 players and just hope to outscore your opponent every night.. that non-sense may work in regular season but in the playoffs, it won't fly...
During Chicago’s first cup run in the Toews era, Toews was in the penalty box nearly losing it when Brent Seabrook, with his back to the camera, spoke to Toews. Not sure what Seabrook said but Toews seemed to turn things around after that. Seabrook showed leadership in that situation. I’m not sure the Leafs have that.

Too many Yashins and Naslunds on the Leafs team (great regular seasons but nothing to show for in the playoffs).
Walking out of the jays game a few drunks where yelling let’s go leafs. The only way to enjoy the leafs with beer.

I'm a Leafs fan but man, I want them to get their asses handed to them.. nothing good will come from them winning that game or this series.. if they pull off a miracle and get past Boston, they'll get their asses handed to them against Florida ( again)... if they lose, and I hope they lose in embarrassing fashion, then maybe the changes that need to happen, will happen.. I called this at the trade deadline.. other teams already better than Toronto, made significant changes to get better and what did the Leafs do? I mean, what COULD they do? They handcuffed this team when they put ink to paper on those 4 huge contracts.. all that $$ and they all disappear in the playoffs..

I think the shot of the core 4 on the bench arguing just brought the absolute breaking point the fans had with the Leafs. This Core 4 have been together for what 6-8 years as part of the Shanaplan. The fact that they paid tribute to Bob Cole the other night they looked like dead men on ice for the first 40 minutes of the game. Bob Cole would be rolling in his grave if he had to hear the unsettling play by play commentary these sportscaster had to call during the game. You can hear it just watching from home it was an awkward vibe calling the action. God knows how these guys decide to end their season tomorrow cuz we seen this over and over again. Quite frankly, if anyone does tune in tomorrow night for the game it’s just to see exactly the implosion of 8 years we had with this roster of guys 🙄🙄

Toronto Maple Leafs fans never can admit another team is better. It is always the referees, injuries, acts of God, etc. It is never the other team being better. And that is why the players always get a free pass and opportunity to run things back every year.
The fans are completely all in. The players…not so much.

Wait,,,, Didnt Mitch score just after that exchange. The probllem isn't with the players , it's with management from the coaching staff up. I'll give the GM a pass as he took over the Dubas Diaster, but MLSE E for entertainment seem to have forgotten the S for Sports.
One nice goal doesn't make up for multitude of bad plays he made in that game. He vacated his position at the top of the diamond on Marchand's PP goal which proved to be the game winner. He lost multiple puck battles where the B's took the puck off him easily. And then he gets knocked down and instead of getting back into the playoffs, he's looking at the refs for a call. That's not on management. That's on him. And it's more embarrassing considering he's wearing a letter on his jersey. He's supposed to be a leader, and he's not showing that he is.
@pomerlain8924 I think if you look at the stats from the game you will find Mitch led the team with 13.67% of stats. Scored the only goal had 3 shots on goal which was the highest with a couple of other players. Had 100% of team goals. Played just under 22 minutes on ice time Had a +1 rating for the game and is still struggling with the effects of his high ankle sprain which was visible in his skating. Mitch played with 17 skaters where Bertuzzi and Lyubushkin were the only ones with an assist. There were a lot of players with zero's out their. It may be a bit shortlived to blame a 3-1 loss on 1 player in this game. Especially Mitch Marner who led the leafs in stats for game 4. I suspect he is still suffering the effects of his high ankle sprain. He did well considering Matthews was sick and Willy was on his first game back. So I disagree with you. Mitch wasn't the reason for the game 4 loss.
You can't have passive players as leaders in the playoffs .. You expect to back up , not arguing with the ref while you teammate is fighting two players .. Marner last year while Ryan O'Reilly was fighting two Tampa players ..
@stanclare7758 Yes I agree with that statement. It goes back to management who select the C and A's. This team has talent the new GM was left with a real mess to clean up but There are others in management with no excuses. I personally like Keefe as an individual but his messages to the press are too positive and are covert excuses for poor play. The coaching staff are responsible for the specialty teams which are not working . The coach makes the lineups. This is where the players have to execute. But if you have the wrong players in the wrong spots , you are beaten before you start. Like trying to put a square peg in a round hole. It won't work. Keefe comes from a background of hard work and success. However like all things generational change is necessary and that includes coaching style. In this day and age of generation " me first " you have to deal with players at an individual level aswell as a team level. We have way too much talent on the team to reflect the lackluster play. Aside from the GM I would replace upper management and the entire coaching staff possibly as soon as This Wednesday. Keefe will go to Pittsburgh reunited with Dubas . The assistant coaches need to go and the right fresh faces brought in. Of course this all depends on whether MLSE is in the Sports business or the entertainment business.
At the end of the day it's not the coaches and managers who fail on the ice.

I read a comment somewhere mentioning Babcock and Mitch. Mitch needs to learn discipline and Mike noticed it and try to instill it into him but Mitch wants the carefree life. Makes me wonder if there is a sense to win rather than trying to play fancy still and not up your game

I wouldn't say that they aren't trying. But this team regularly gets out worked and that's a problem. This level of effort would be unacceptable in the regular season let alone in the playoffs. Why can't this team even take baby steps forward each year? I've seen this movie too many times and I know how it ends. The only people who can change the Leafs fortunes are the players on the ice. This Leafs team has a ton to prove. Show us that you want it more than Boston and the fans will be there for you in a heartbeat. You can't fault the fans for being frustrated and upset. Your pros. Get it done or for crying out loud at least show some fight on the way out. I haven't decided if I'm watching tonight. If I don't, it will be the first time I've ever missed a Leaf playoff game since I was about 6 years old.
