I've never felt so much adrenaline from watching Qualifying Highlights before! Max's last attempt was near surgical precision, riding at the very edge of his and the car's abilities, only to reach slightly too far at the very last corner. So many close calls on this track! I have no doubt that Sunday with have a safety car but I seriously hope the drivers make it through the race okay.
Verstappen’s lap before the crash is a great display of a driver being on the absolute edge of the limit. I’m a merc fan so I want Lewis to make history with an 8th title, but the showcase of absolute confidence and connection that Verstappen had on that last attempt was magical.

Watching how close he was to the wall on the first corner, then also the one that martin mentions about leaving no margin. He was so totally committed to every decision he made. Today a bit of that magical stuff happened that reminds you why you watch this sport.

1 he was 4.5 tenths up on his previous attempt, so about 3 tenths up on ham. 2 He locked up and missed the apex by a mile, so even if he didn't touch the wall he wouldn't have gotten pole. Max meat riders are insane.

While it was only 2/3rd of a lap, Max’s final lap was the most on-the-edge spectacle. What a push.

This qualifying is the most INTENSE qualifying for me. Feeling absolutely gutted for Max, he really pushed to the limit in that last lap

This could have cost the championship, Lewis also missed on his first attempt and went for a safety lap, I think if he had given everything as Max did he would have had a better time, at this point Lewis' experience may have spoken louder.
Max's last lap was intense. Sad to see him hit the wall, but P3 is not a bad position to start in for tomorrow.

A modern F1 car dancing on the limit on such a narrow track with almost no margin for error and therefore putting immense wear on the tyre, yeah I am happy to be able to see this. I don't care about the result as he wasn't able to complete the lap. I am satisfied with this all or nothing approach.

Never saw that much commitment form anyone in F1 ever and I've been watching it for 40 years. Absolutely unbelievable.
This is the highlights that got me into formula 1, and you can say I am freaking proud of it. I was the luckiest person on the planet to have encountered this qualifying session at the time I was considering getting into the racing world, as I was a car guy. Being on the edge of my seat watching these guys absolutely sending and pushing to the limit of what is physically possible was simply the best way to get introduced to the pinnacle of motorsports. Thank you, Lewis and Max!
Charles P4 was impressive considering he had crashed badly yesterday. Him and Max are built to be a future champion for sure.

Ive come back to this lap so many times, would have been one have the best qualifying laps in the history of the sport. He had a slower car, the track suited mercedes more, his back was against the wall, and he had ONE. MORE. CORNER. What a lap it would have been.

That final lap by Max was just pure pain. You cannot write this season's script. Max decided to go full send with every risk and either take a deciding pole, or crash. And then it seems the risk pays off and he is going to pull a legendary lap, and he does hit the wall on the final corner. You can't make it up. I hope he doesn't get a gearbox penalty so we get to see an rpic race fight tomorrow.

I’ve watched many, many, many hours of F1, and only a few times have I ever come up speechless. This lap right up until the crash did that to me. Literally no words to explain how razor sharp that lap would have been if it had been complete. I’m obviously no driver, but I’ve seen many people put in great quali laps and this was another plane of existence. Lewis’ lap right before that as well was killer fast but this…. wow

Max's lap was straight out of a movie, especially with the way the commentators were hyping it up. One man giving it his all to reclaim his hard fought lead, after an entire year of struggle against an unstoppable force, and then it all falls apart at the very last moment.

This track really tests the patience and attention of the drivers. The margin between a disaster happening and a smooth run is very small.

something about max's final lap had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, it just looked slightly more unstable and more unhinged than the previous one. This is the definition of driving on the raggedy edge of what is possible
His driving looked different compared to the rest all weekend, especially going into 22. His qualifying laps often look more "raw" compared to Hamilton's surgical perfection he often has. This circuit seems to emphasize it a bit more. I hope his gearbox is okay. Regardless, I think we're going to see some magic tomorrow we're not going to forget anytime soon. I don't know why, I just have a feeling that I haven't had in a long time. Lets hope this ages well and he pulls it off...

It was crazy, hair raising stuff. Such a shame that his back end just kicked out in the last corner. I don't think his gearbox will have been damaged, the contact actually seemed fairly gentle and I think those wishbones on the back are designed to buckle under load so the drive train can be saved.
Yeah, that's what you have to drive like to try and beat a rival car that's minimum 5 tenths faster then you even if they just drive normally and don't push particularly hard. He has to push for every tenth and has had to push every single race this year just to outcompete the Mercedes.

Almost an impeccable lap by Max. He literally kept everyone on the edge of their seats as he was on the edge of red bull car's full capability and his maximum skills... so intense! This is the reason why Verstappen and Hamilton are on the top echelons of F1.

Wow, I have to give it to him. Mad Max was flying on the last lap, I felt like I hit that wall myself. Now I see why he deserves to win this year's championship.
Max was 0.244 faster. That means he could've gone slower in the final sector and still got 1st.
As a lewis fan, I feel for Max. That would've been an incredible lap just before the crash.

That was probably the best and most action-packed Qualifying I've seen. Drivers doing flying laps after flying laps without pitting, the positions keep on changing every lap, and there was not a second when the track was quiet except for that last seconds in the last session when Max hit the wall after a scintillating run that would've crushed the lap times. That was heartbreaking to watch, even if you're not a Max fan.
This will go down as one of the greatest what-if qualifying laps
If Max was to complete that lap, it might have been the best lap in F1 history
I am liking this track TBH. So many turns that keep drivers on the edge even more, and a very small margin for errors, great qualifying!

I'm not even a huge Verstappen fan, but watching this live I was in total awe of Max's effort in the last lap. When he hit the wall I felt a terrible sinking feeling. P3 isn't bad though. If anything, he showed what he can do on this track. Tomorrow will be something to watch for sure.

Max's and Charles lap were on the same level. Following both laps i can say that they were finding space where nobody else could. Superb drivers
P4 in the 3rd best car ahead of Perez is an impressive effort but there's no way you can compare it to Max. Maybe Lewis Max was gonna be 3 tenths ahead of 2nd, Charles was barely a tenth ahead of 7th
Could, or didn't want to? I reckon that maturity is the one thing preventing Max from having walked home with the championship already, Lewis being able to just bring the car home just about every race is an underrated skill, and he did the same this qualifying.

Was it a lack of maturity since he's the one leading the championship and shouldn't be taking those risks, or was it that he needs to push like that because Red Bull know that Mercedes has the advantage?

This was almost the greatest qualifying lap of all time, but now it lives on in infamy. It was nearly perfect. Man and machine truly working as one, leaving no margin for error on the entries, apexes, or exits. If he nailed that last corner, it would be his qualifying magnum opus.

@fazzy To be fair, we'll never know what would've been better/more legendary since Max crashed out. But yes, by default, Lewis's performance was more impressive since he finished the lap, plus beating the computer simulation is very cool, can't deny it. I think Max's is easier to romanticize tho. "The perfect lap that never was" sorta stuff.

the final lap with max was maybe one of the best qualifying runs I've personally seen, all or nothing. Shame he locked up. Race tomorrow is going to be amazing

Was on track to beat the greatest ever lap (Hamilton @ Singapore) but got too greedy. He was already clear in Sector 1 and 2 to take pole, he didn't need to push. But not sure, maybe he burnt out his tyres
@@DaedalusMinion Nah it wouldn't of beaten Lewis' Singapore lap. We must remember the Mercedes struggled through the entire weekend in Singapore up until Q3 where Lewis just somehow went into another dimension. This Max lap tho would've been a special, special lap.

Sometimes a person is frightened by the realization that everything is going perfectly and at the very end where there is nothing to mess up, they mess up. Although this relapse is supposedly not that simple. So maybe I'm exaggerating.

This is the true meaning beyond the limit each corner he was just barely grazing the wall even though he messed up the last corner it's still a honor to see this lap
That final POV of Max right before contacting the barrier was incredible. Even though he didn't get pole, that lap was nearly millimeter perfect. He always manages to leave me in awe with how amazing he is. Such a treat to watch

One of those laps where every single corner was full send. Max is phenomenal and my heart sunk when he went slightly wide and missed the apex. Tomorrow should be a great race!
