Bottas taking that heavy Mercedes contract off his shoulders truly made him fly
Honestly, I would argue otherwise. If that would've been true, he would've tried harder actually going for the win, considering he had a much faster car. But it seems like he was told to not risk anything further and bring back the points after it became clear that Perez got a penalty. He did what was expected from a top team driver starting at the back. Drive back to the pack of top teams. Which he just about did, but nothing more.
And historically he's been great in Sochi.
I really want to make the argument that it weaves the pressure off and then making him a better driver. But the fact that he use a brand new engine still makes me doubt it. It is more logical to say that he gets to be a better driver because he has a new engine rather than being released from the pressure. Perhaps it's a bit of both, but how do you weigh each one? It's annoyingly difficult to judge so I just move on and celebrate McLaren's on merit 1-2.

And lost in the excitement is the odd fact that Bottas probably had the best performance of the weekend. Took pole. Won the sprint. Then had to come from the very back of the grid for a podium.
Driving a top car from the back of the grid back to where it belongs is kinda normal and expected though. Done so by Hamilton and Verstappen several times as well. This time around, RB, McLaren and Mercedes made up that top pack, so the goal for Bottas was 6th. Norris drove excellently as well and defended very well against Hamilton on multiple occasions. Bottas, even though he got the podium because of Perez's penalty still made a strong statement this weakened before he leaves the team. All around one of my favorite GP's this season so far.
At the beginning of the season I had a wish and this single race granted it. I wanted another shoey and for both McLarens to share a podium. I am elated.
Im so happy too see the shoey again and deserve 1-2 for mclaren
Yes Valtteri did great job...
that was a McLaren victory 9 long years in the making... finally exorcising the ghost of losing the factory status of Mercedes Benz to the horrible Honda GP2 engine years and the long hard journey back to competitiveness under new leadership, thanks in part to the excellent Mercedes engine and the usual hard working professional McLaren team... Bellisimo Monza you have provided another satisfying podium for the third year running with the end of a long running drought for one of Formula One's iconic teams... DanRic's victory was also another long hard journey to competitiveness after leaving the comfort zone of Red Bull for the supposedly greener pasture of Renault which though giving him the podium they promised was not enough for the then six-time GP winner... now with McLaren this win will definitely erased any doubts of his abilities with his struggles with the MCL35M... cheers to Lando for being a team player despite missing out on the top step but he has years more for that opportunity to come...
It was nice too see bottas too on the podium p19 too p3 the rest of the season he can ride more free after the romeo switch
Its incredible how exciting this race was, valterri went from 20th to the podium and it was maybe the 4th most compelling storyline in the entire race!
Well he was 19 cause Tsunoda didn't start
Yep
He only got podium because of Checo's time penalty.
@@avrywilson577 while that's true, he definitely was up there in P3 at one point.

Once again the halo saved a life and to think that there are people who are still against its use. Today could have happened one of the biggest tragedies of F1, thank you for having learned from the accidents of Lauda, Villeneuve, Senna and so many others to improve our sport. Halo saves lives.
I don't get how people can be against it. I just started watching f1 last season and It's mind boggling how they only started using the halo just a few years ago. I think it looks cool too.
I'm for it too. But would it have protected him if Verstappens back wheel had landed square on top of it instead of back a bit. Looks like the tired would fit in somewhat.
Who is against its use? Dont make up something to put more value on your words.
@@Tyler-xh2sg I'm sure they thought of that. Although it does look like it would fit.
I don't think there's anything left to be said anymore, so many times the Halo proved it's worth, and yet, did you see Max tire trying to traction on the Halo? If it wasn't the Halo, it would have be Ham's head, it's a scary thought. Now please, remove sausage kerbs from all tracks, not only it proved to be "anti-racing," *it was the cause of this accident,* if F1 really wants safety, it's gotta go.
I love how Daniel opens his helmet and flexes for the onboard cam
Max Verstappen's car on top of Lewis Hamilton's foreshadowed who was going to win the driver championship.

Wait until tomorrow. You've left a video producer without his day off.
wouldnt surpirse me tbh

Everyone talking about Lewis and Max of McLaren, but George with the third point finish at Williams!!
When 5 dnfs happen you should finish in the points. He only needed to finish above the haas and alfa romeo….
He finished in the top 10 out of 16 drivers (the alpha tauris, Lewis and max) that's not thst special
no points in zandvoort
Not consecutive. Didn’t score any at Zandvoort. Still impressive nonetheless
And yet nobody is talking about Bottas coming from P19 to P3.
We mclaren fans deserved a 1-2 after all that wait
My favourite race last season😁
In the light of recent events, let’s just remember that Daniel is the only driver to win in a McLaren for the last decade. Let that sink in. Can’t wait until he leaves McLaren in his dust next year and shows them the mistake they’ve made 🤘🏼
Winning once doesn’t compensate for drastic underperforming
Lando norris has got 88 points to Daniel's 19 in the same car and machinery. Let that sink in fool.
@@prasannarajendran9315 Ricciardo still the only driver to win in a McLaren in over a decade buddy, let that sink in

As a wise man once said: "I think you have to leave the space.. all the time you have to leave a space".... Kidding aside though, the crash between Lewis and Max was just a racing incident.

Just visiting the last race winner for McLaren
No matter who's side you're on. This is the most exciting F1 season in years! Senna vs Prost memories -Edit: mafFIA decided to punish Max but not Lewis? Silverstone was also “overly” Lewis his fault, he didn’t get punished and today Max wasn’t able to finish his race, which Hamilton was in the UK. Very unfair treatment.

Flashbacks to 2012
Bottas goes through the field to finish third. First question he gets when out of his car: 'What do you think about the crash between Hamilton and Verstappen?' 🤦♂️
Rather normal and expected for a top team car to at least join the rest of the top cars eventually. In this case RB, McLaren and Hamilton. Hamilton and Verstappen crashed, leaving two McLarens and Perez. He didn't get past any of them. He essentially just did the minimum that was expected. He didn't even seem to try to challenge the top three much, despite having a much faster car.
My heart broke as well. The guy had an amazing drive. Just recognize him.
@@DragonKhan2000 well I wouldn’t say he didn’t challenge. He was close to overtaking Perez a number of times, though his mediums had mad deg at the end so he couldn’t really do much.
