2009 NBA Finals Game 1, June 4, 2009 | Kobe Bryant's determination and intensity were at an all-time high entering the 2009 Finals one year after a painful beat down at the hands of the Boston Celtics. Looking to make a statement early in the series, Kobe dazzled the Staples Center crowd with the use of his entire repertoire. In 38 minutes on the floor, Bean erupted for a Finals career-high 40 points while collecting 8 rebounds and dishing out 8 assists. The Lakers rode Kobe's intensity and a stifling defense to a 25 point beat-down, allowing the Magic to score just 75 points on under 30% shooting.

  • Kobe's getting hit on the arm and hand on a lot of his contested mid-rangers too. He just keeps jogging away and comes back to do it again. If this were today, every star would be screaming and crying at the ref. That's why Kobe is different from the rest of the pack.

  • Put worthy players around Kobe and you're contending every year. Lakers' roster is absolute garbage right now. Kobe is still putting up 27 pts, 5 rebs and 4 asts in his 19th year with almost 55,000 minutes played and also coming off of 2 big injuries. Best work ethic of all time.

    • He doesn't have ANY role players on that team they're to hesitant to shoot or doesn't try to improve their shots at all everybody who's blinded because he's a "ball hog" that avg as many assist as lebron are the only ones who says he's "not" when he had role players look at the result nuff said

      @CariX0@CariX09 жыл бұрын
    • CariX0 Idk man. Yeah, the Lakers are looking stagnant, the other players don't really make an attempt to get open on several possession, but sometimes Kobe doesn't even give them the chance to. Idk if you watched the game against the Warriors last Sunday, but Kobe was literally shooting the ball the second he touched it, it didn't matter where he was as long as he was within the 3 point line, it didn't even matter if he was looking at the basket, he just kept chucking. That isn't winning basketball, it gets your teammates out of the game and leads to bad shots.

    • Kdog 81 I’m not mad at you putting him in your top five as long as Lebron is mentioned after him and not above him. For me he’s number Two after Jordan. I can’t see it any other way. It’s like he studied Jordan his entire life. He copied every move to the last detail. Can’t separate Kobe from Jordan. He will always follow right behind him no matter where you rank them. If Jordan is one then Kobe is two. If Jordan is two then Kobe is three and so forth. Watching Kobe was literally like watching Jordan all over again. Only difference was that Kobe was a better outside shooter to me. But Jordan’s edge over Kobe only evident in one aspect. He never saw defeat in a championship. What level of mentality is that? But Kobe was right on his heels! Everyone else only saw their dust

    • Its disgusting that the Nba thinks that nobody notices the league can already control the movement of the ball electromagnetically to go down the hoop or not, it was so obvious during the regular season of '12-13 when lebrons miami beat the spurs if i remember right.. from the start of the season until the playoffs, the ball hit the rim, then the center top of board, before going into the hoop.. it happened both either east or west it happens too often its disgusting, which tainted the skill credibility and stats of today's stars.. of course the nba made a lot of money from that foul technology, who would dare place their bet if the nba can control the ball, they would pay the nba extra money then everybody does it too, would you believe a prime derrick rose had a FG% of 2/17?? Technology destroyed the sport.. it has become an everybody happy socialistic enterprise, it was obvious that they experiment on different variety of manipulation to make it look realistic already, but during those games around '12-'13 season, it was disgusting to even look at, nobody challenges shots anymore, of course after this comment, they will try to revert it back to how it is, but the embarrassment has been done already, who would they be accountable to if nobody checks or test the actual ball or rim to be used free from electromagnetism, when lebron won his title with miami like that, i believe competitive bball was all over already, they hype it up with drama nowadays, they thought they can conceal the foul technology before my probing eyes, if you think "how did that go in?" You're eyes are right, and nobody tries heavy defense anymore just out shoot each other then go home with the money, unlike previous generations who worked their asses both offensively and defensively the millions of salary was worth paying, i hate the nba this decade, so i agree with you, the 2000s was the last of nba being pure competition of skills

  • Anyone who believes Lebron is better than Kobe can only use that argument with stats as their proof. Numbers. But stats can never tell the whole story. We don’t watch the game for stats and we don’t become fans by stats. What happens during the game is why we love the game. And seeing Kobe work on that court. And actually seeing him instill fear in his opponents. Witnessing him takeover the game and being unstoppable. Stats don’t record the undying will of a player. It doesn’t record fear and the choke factor that we “witnessed “ in Lebron James! Don’t use numbers as an argument. I never saw Kobe choke once in his whole career. I saw Lebron choke too many times. That alone disqualified him as the goat. Great and excellent player yes. But goat NEVER!!!

    • The blazers were up 16 in the 4th in that game 7, and Kobe was the Laker player who came down and hit tough shot after tough shot, then started hitting open guys and closing the gap, until Kobe finally hit the shot to take the lead on pippen, before closing it by crossing pippen and lobbing it to Shaq. This is why Kobe is better than LeBron, how many times have we seen LeBron fold when his team is down? Even the heat game they won with ray Allen, ray Allen was the guy on the heat team who didn't quit, kept fighting, and brought the life back to the heat. Kobe was always the spark for the Lakers.

    • I agree. I wish Kobe got as many foul calls like Jordan did especially in the NBA Finals. If you study the Chicago Bulls championship run they got all of the benefit of the doubt on most of the calls especially MJ every game because the NBA was marketing them to always win for their brand in the 1990's. I truly feel the league ordered all of the referees to target Kobe after those rape accusations. If Kobe got a lot of the foul calls he deserved he would have averaged above 40+ points per game in most of his NBA Finals appearances because yes he was just as good as MJ if not better at times for what he was up against in general. R.I.P. GOAT! 💔

The long road after his 3rd championship, the heartbreak from the 08 finals, I just knew as he was putting on this show I was thinking "Oh, they're winning this championship for sure". You could see that nobody was going to get in his way in these finals, and he was locked in. One of those "Wow, I'm watching something special right now" moments. R.I.P Kobe. When lebron won he carried the team when he always has 2 superstars that can average 20ppg and bunch of good role players, don't tell me you don't remember 2011 meltdown and 2016 he shot 36% in game7 and nobody talks about it. And somehow when kobe won back to back none of his teammates can average over 20 ppg gasol was the only all star the rest was fking just role players that can give you 10 ppg sometimes retards.
