No Human Has Ever Left Earth’s Atmosphere, Here's Why

New observations of our atmosphere calculate that it extends far beyond what we thought, encompassing the moon! This means that we've actually never left Earth's atmosphere. Here's what else these observations can tell us.

Earth's Atmosphere Stretches Out To The Moon - And Beyond
www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Sp...
"The new study revealed that sunlight compresses hydrogen atoms in the geocorona on Earth’s dayside, and also produces a region of enhanced density on the night side. The denser dayside region of hydrogen is still rather sparse, with just 70 atoms per cubic centimeter at 60 000 kilometers above Earth’s surface, and about 0.2 atoms at the Moon’s distance."
The edge of space: Revisiting the Karman Line
www.sciencedirect.com/science...
"A number of these authors suggest that the large variations with time of atmospheric properties make it futile to locate a true boundary of space based on physical arguments. In this paper I will argue the contrary: there is a moderately-well-defined boundary of space, it coincides with the Karman line as originally defined, and that line is close to 80 km, not 100 km."
Exosphere - overview
scied.ucar.edu/shortcontent/e...
"Not all scientists agree that the exosphere is really a part of the atmosphere. Some scientists consider the thermosphere the uppermost part of Earth's atmosphere and think that the exosphere is really just part of space. However, other scientists do consider the exosphere part of our planet's atmosphere."

  • I asked my physics professor once infront of class why doesn't the moon light make a light spectrum when it passes through a prism, but sunlight does? If the moon light is just the sunlight passing through the moon? He said he didn't know and he failed me in the final exam. I looked over my test, and corrected all his mistakes with proof from the text books and highlighted them with page references. I went from an F to a C. Just because someone is a college professor doesn't mean they know everything. You have to figure out things for yourself sometimes.

That's what the beginning of the video covers. The FAI definition is 100 km, which is near the start of the thermosphere, while NASA defines it as an even closer 80 km.

    • Let me make this clear, the Earths atmosphere has reached interstellar space. Since Earth has had an atmosphere, we have been outgassing into space, since solar flares and other cosmic occurrences have been blowing away Earth's atmosphere since day one of Earth having an atmosphere. What remains between the moon and slightly further is eventually pulled back to Earth by gravity. Our atmosphere is always in a constant state of change. With our proximity to the Sun's gravity, we are exposed to just about every atmospheric particle known, to put that another way, you do not have to go to Mars to experience the atmosphere, you are already breathing it and just do not know it.

If the sun was within our atmosphere, we would have no O-zone layer defending us since it's on the OUTSIDE of the furthest level of the atmosphere. Which means we would burn alive from the intense UV rays. Ozone layer is why the sun doesn't constantly cook our surface. There is no proof anywhere that any FET has that accurately measures the distance from Sun and Moon.

"And how can a vacuum exist next to a pressurized system without a barrier?" You morons really need to stop parroting such dumb catchphrases when you have no idea what you are talking about. Space isn't no pressure, it's extremely low pressure. There is an observable measurable pressure gradient from the surface of the earth up to what we term space. Why is there 14.6 psi of atmospheric pressure at sea level and only 5 psi of atmospheric pressure at the top of Mt Everest, with no barrier to separate them?

      @MrEjwheeler@MrEjwheeler14 күн бұрын

And it's a gradient that never really stops. And how can a vacuum exist next to a pressurized system without a barrier? Easy: gravity. BTW, this video is what people call "edutainment". It's a bit of grade school science wrapped up in a cute package. If you want real science with no clickbait titles, read the paper she references. Who "decided" to use "scare" quotes so "much"?

    • The atmosphere isn't pressurized, it has pressure. This is the kind of thing that you are not capable of understanding, so you listen to high school dropouts spouting conspiracy theories - because actual learning is much too difficult for you.

    • Nope. Exosphere is made out of loose light gases like hydrogen and helium spreading out of Earth. Space starts above 100km Well if an aastronaut fires his nitrogen thrusters a puff of gas gets released into space, where does it go? It's also a mini atmosphere since it's a cloud of gas, but isn't it at space ?

Not me, I hope to do so soon when I become an astronaut but I was the chief engineer in our university rocket division and we launched a solid motor sounding rocket above Karman line. Anyway have you been to space though ?

    • I take it y'all don't know how science works do you? We can make advances in curing diseases but we are not allowed to make advances in understanding our planet and universe? That doesn't make sense at all. There would be no need for science if there was nothing left to learn. So yes, they could accurately calculate fuel needs back then and still not have all the answers to science smh.
