Today we are giving you a tour around our $130 apartment in rural Japan! Our Japanese apartment is a 2DK and roughly 400 square feet. It's small, but we've managed to make it feel like home 🏡 We have done a few small changes and upgrades around the house and are hoping to do more in the future!
We hope you enjoy our JET Programme apartment tour!

This is probably the nicest jet apartment tour I’ve seen! I like the atheistic. Was this the housing given to you by your school?
Thanks so much 😊 and yes it was set up for us by Adrian's company!
Awesome that you guys are living in Japan! I live in a small apartment too. What you could do for air drying your clothes in winter. I put them in a small room. You could put them in your bathroom. Get a drying rack and put it on top of or in the bathtub. Then turn on an electric heater and a dehumidifier inside the room. The heater dries your clothes. And the dehumidifier sucks all the water out of your clothing. This works fantastic, because it’s a small room. Your clothes will be dry within a few hours. And you don’t need your bathtub during the day, so your laundry doesn’t take up any floorspace. Win win :)
Very smart! Thanks so much. We've just had them hung up all over the house so that sounds so much better 🤣
@@LifewiththeClements You’re welcome! Hope you have a lovely time in Japan :)
I love how 'rural Japan' is more urbanized than the small American town I grew up in.
haha yes😂 exactly like the small town in Canada Shaneen grew up in!
I live in Japan and I am happy to see you guys enjoying the life in Japan even though it’s quite tiny. It’s very interesting to see mixed styles of Japanese and western in your home. Looks very cozy.
Thank you so much! 😋
Lovely home you have. Light and cozy. The smaller the space, the more organized you need to be, and you have done just that. TFS. Xxx
Love the decor. Looks so cozy!!!
thanks! Ikea and the Japanese dollar store for the win!
It is so impressive that you turn old Danchi room to unique modern/japanese room.
Thanks! We tried to keep it as simple as possible
U GUYS KEEP IT BEAUTIFUL😍
As expected you guys have done amazing things with your apartment! So kawaii!
Ooh, thanks so much!!! ☺
TraloiDS👩
IM very impressed with the decoratingg
it was clearly all Adrian
This is so cute! I'm envious!
thanks man! 🙌🏼
My husband and I are moving to Okayama with JET this July! I’m so excited to see it all and meet everyone.
Yay! That's amazing, you are going to love it. Let us know if you need any help or have any questions moving in - sometimes the JET program just kinda throws you in 😅
Beautiful!!
Thank you! 😊
so neat and tidy
haha thanks, we try! 😜
That tub is called a soaking tub. It’s awesome and you can’t drown if you fall asleep
Ahhh, I see. Very smart!
I would've loved to have made that tatami room into a bedroom 😍 with a Japanese futon bed and everything! Dream ideas for if I get to do jet in my 30's!!!!!
I really like it so much
I love your apartment, it is so you guys 🤗❤️
thanks! it is true, I come home every week with a new plant to make it feel more homey 🤣
Very Nice, I used to live in Okayama, it's a very nice place, and there are some really great people there.
Oh cool! Yeah it is a great place, and the people are so kind!
I really love the whole look of this apartment from its simplicity and beauty! May I know what shade/color of paint you used in your bedroom?
Thanks so much!💕 I would love to tell you but we are just renting, and do not know, sorry!
its beautiful is it not? great natural light and a tub you can soak in! In America I have to get down on my back in the tub to get a good soak.
Awesome production quality, it felt like I was watching one of those big "life in tokyo" type channels. Also I can't unsee this man's resemblance to Riff Raff, but that's kind of a weird reference.
😂😂😂 Never heard that one before! But thanks so much for watching!
Cool place
Pretty sure the tatami room is intended as the bedroom since all you need is a futon - that furniture will wear out the mats a lot quicker than traditional furniture.
Yes you are totally right - the tatami room is intended to be used as the bedroom! But seeing as how we have a queen size bed we were recomended by our landlord to use the tatami as our living space, get a small lightweight couch and put mats underneath any furniture!
Oh my God I would love to have a kitchen that size ..mine is smaller than that
I bet you guys are a pro now with the recycling garbage now. I used to not care about putting stuff on the fridge. Now, it annoys me.
How is the noise level in the apartment. I'm looking to do the jet programme but have bad sensory issues. Can you hear your neighbors a lot??
That will definitely depend on your placement and living arrangements! Our apartment was quite old and the walls were incredibly thin so although our neighbours were quite quiet we still could hear everything
New subscriber here. You guys make a great couple.
Awe, thanks so much! Welcome 😄
Your japanese apartment is very lovely and beautiful and brilliant. It may be small but it is very very wonderful. I want to be in japan I want to live in tokyo it is my number one dream and my number one futuristic city.
Wow, thank you so much! 😊 Tokyo seems amazing, we wish you all the best there!
A lot of Japanese bathrooms have a fan that can dry your clothes in the winter months, not sure if your bathroom has that feature tho
I've seen those! they are so cool! 😅 ours doesn't though. Would have been perfect for the winter months for sure.
Lucky! My rent during the programme was not subsidized.
Awe, really? That's too bad. Hopefully it wasn't too much for you!
@@LifewiththeClements I was in Kyoto city and they put me up in a 2DK right beside the subway which cost around $800+ CAD. Perks of living in the inaka!
@@LifewiththeClements Can you also link the Amazon dining table and chairs?
@@jennyyan7396 Oh wow, i see! Yeah the inaka can have its perks for sure, but Kyoto would be an amazing placement 😊

ごく普通の日本のアパートなのに、インテリアが素敵だと 日本ではないみたいです。 やはり、感性の違いなのか… 真似したいです❤
Dope place! once I get my finances in order bye bye Toronto!
lets gooo 🇨🇦 ✈️ 🇯🇵
I want it
Any updated apartment tour?
Agreed! We need an updated apartment tour!
Yes, soon! Not a lot have changed but we will be posting one in a few months! 😁
Hello, I’m interested in working for the JET program, but I’m scared about placement. Do we have any choice in where we work/live?
You get to pick your top three prefectures that you would like to be placed, and sometimes they accommodate to that and other times they don’t at all. Okayama was not on our list at all but we ended up loving it!
I heard you can't use soap with those toilet sinks because they end up clogging it... is the soap special?
We've heard that as well before, but we've talked to our landlord about it and they hadn't heard of that at all 🤔 We use a very gentle soap and have never had a issue!
First time to your channel. What do you do? Student? How long will you be here?
Welcome! We are going to be living in Japan for a year, Adrian is a ALT in a junior high school through the JET programme and Shaneen works part time teaching English 😊
@@LifewiththeClements I can't imagine decorating and buying furniture just for a yearlong stay. I would feel so bad about the waste of resources, not to mention money. Every time I've spent extended time abroad, I've always specifically looked for fully furnished places. One of my places even came complete with bed stuff and everything necessary for the kitchen (including all pots, pans, silverware, plates, and even a French press coffeemaker). The time I didn't have bed stuff, I ended up borrowing from a colleague.
@@catinabox3048 Very smart. Yes we absolutely agree! The apartment was chosen for us though, by the company Adrian works for. Usually we would have had a predecessor living in the house before us (the previous person filling Adrian's position) but unfortunately because of Covid they went home early and the old apartment was given away 😔 Luckily though when we leave, a new foreigner will be taking over the apartment with all the stuff in it!
Did you buy your furniture online?
We placed a big order from Ikea and got it delivered, and then a lot of the rest of it is from the good ol' Japanese dollar store, Daiso 😎
We testing oven mode
You a brave soul man
Wow! Kawaii! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks! 🤍
İşte bende KYK odamda bunu izliyorum
Vocês são canadianos?
Yes we are 👍🏼
Hello . Where is it?
We live in the countryside of the Okayama prefecture!
What do you work at in Japan? I'd say its a very interesting country to live in
It's a very interesting place to live, yes.We love it! Adrian works at a Junior High School and Shaneen teaches English in a after school program 😊
As a foreigner, you don’t have a lot of options. It’s either English teacher, military or online.
