    • My respect for you went through the roof for the sheer fact that you know the correct name of the stance and complete system of fighting known as the Philly shell. Small correction, the Philly shell is the stance and the name of the advanced system of fighting and the shoulder roll is the specific technique of causing straight right hands to bounce/deflect off of the shoulder. The reason people get it confused (aside from having never been trained by a legit trainer) is that the shoulder roll is one of the most utilized and clearly visual defensive (when properly timed and chained together it's right hand bouncing off shoulder, then counter right hand pre loaded, therefore powerful and landing on an off balance opponent) technique that gives the mirage that there are openings that aren't there to draw an opponent into a spider web. Toney vs Jirov was the first fight my trainer had me watch when he'd have me train light then watch fight videos on Sunday. Toney lived and breathed the Philly shell lol. He probably slept in the Philly shell stance lol. Floyd Mayweather also mastered the Philly shell system, but he didn't use it every fight like Toney. Most people don't that it's an entire precise system of movements (ask bone head Adrian Broner lol), nor do they truly pay close attention to detail which is why they think Bernard Hopkins used the Philly Shell (he used his own stance that was kind of similar). All the Mayweather's, Toney and De La Hoya are the only fighters I can think of in recent history that fought out of Philly Shell. It's becoming a lost art, and is an advanced system due to the timing needed and experience to be able stay calm as it feels at first like you're almost playing chicken with your chin, until you realize that youre hands and arms are already in position for defense, all that's needed is upper body movement which is way faster than it takes for an opponent is punch to travel to you.
